People say "no culture," when what they really mean is "not a long history." It's a young country, but has produced far more new cultural things in the past 200 years than anyone else. (And, rich Americans bought and donated a ton of old master paintings, etc. for our museums.)

When people talk of other nations having a culture,it's what was developed over a long period of time by the inhabitants who remained in the area. America is of course a far younger nation with multiple waves of immigrants from many different countries. We have a "culture" incorporating aspects of the cultures of our very diverse population along with that which is "home grown" that is the uniquely American culture. Those who say the US has no culture are not only wrong but almost always say it to deride the US as if we are inferior to their "great cultures", that's quite arrogant and hateful. As if they are dismissing the US as being inhabited by mutts while other countries with "real cultures" are pure breeds.

America has “no culture” because we are a nation of migrants. Our culture is just a copy of everyone else’s. But that sort of causes a contradiction. America’s culture is immigrants and individual freedom. We care more about ourselves than our community. I could get into better detail about specific aspects of this, but that would take multiple pages of writing.

@@blitzofchaosgaming6737 well yes but technically no. The United States as a culture (even going back to when the British first started settling here) is still much younger than English culture. If you are talking about Native Americans. Well... we sort of genocided most of them so they don’t really count as the United States culture. If only our ancestors weren’t so brutal. I really wish the United States would put more funding into reviving Native American culture and traditions. Make it a real “United States of America”.

@@sophiefilo16 Im from Alabama and apparently it comes from back in the 1800s and 1900s when the majority (like 95%) of people living here were unbelievably poor and a lot of them lived isolated from one another on their land. People passing through would see that they really relied on their families and did not integrate into large communities and that is where the stereotype of marrying your cousins comes from because the families were so closely dependent on each other. The British teeth thing is because the NHS didn’t cover it, and many Brits were content to leave their teeth as is, rather than pay out of their own pockets. In America, we don’t have an NHS, so people are used to having to pay for everything, and having bad teeth is considered a sign of being poor. So parents are more willing to pay for their kids teeth, sometimes even taking a loan to pay for orthodontist to straighten teeth. And basic dental care is often covered by American employers health plans. So despite not having national healthcare, for the portion of America which has health coverage through work, a high proportion will have dental care as part of their plans. Like a lot of stereotypes, it’s not 100%, but it has a reason for existing in this case.

The NHS did and still does cover dentistry! Kids dental care has always been free on the NHS, also people on certain benefits can get free dental care and so do pregnant women! The rest of us pay subsidised costs (if you can find an NHS dentist nowadays of course 🙄). I guess back in the day when benefits weren't a thing, subsided dental costs were still prohibitive to the low paid, so teeth were not a priority! My Nan had all her teeth removed aged 21 due to gingivitis and that was pre NHS, dentistry has also come a long way since those days!

Agree with this post having lived and gotten dental treatment in both countries. Also healthcare is BIG business in the US. So they tend to push for more than needed. The full name our founders gave for our country is “The United States of America”. It’s the “United States” that seems to be forgotten. We are like Europe - a land area comprising of different countries. In our case, those countries are states. Each state has its own culture, vibe, or whatever you want to call it. And there are differences within each state just as each country has different regions. We also have “Towns” and “Littles”: Koreatown, Chinatown, Little Armenia, Little Italy, etc. We are a bit like the world in one place. Mind you, my two trips to England were quite eye opening about many things: the big stuff and the little things. Very interesting.

Because it used to be more of a state bound country. Before when America was a confederation, the states had equal power to the federal government, each had their own things the would control, but the states were much more independent. But the states weren't so "United" as the economy was falling apart when America gained independence, then it transitioned into a federation which gave much better results socio economically.

The rude American and friendly American stereotypes are two sides of the same coin, not contradiction. Americans in general are encouraged to express themselves, whereas most of the older countries tend to encourage more reserved and cautious behavior. Part of that is due to who came to America and survived: not the quiet, meek folks who just wanted a nice peaceful life and were willing to conform to authority and societal norms, but the adventurous, rebellious and ambitious sorts. It takes a lot of guts to pack up everything you own and leave everything behind to come to a new country, a new continent, and leave everything and everyone you know behind. People who do that are scrappy, and they're going to raise kids to be scrappy too because that's how they survived. And yes, sometimes that is going to come across as rude. BUT - the ones who do come, survive, and thrive don't do it alone. They've found a way to work with others, because others helped them when they came to learn the rules of their new country. And that's where the friendliness comes in, because we are a nation that has survived and thrives by being that melting pot, and by bringing in new ideas, new techniques, new perspectives we become greater, and you can't get those things by not being willing to work with people who you don’t know or who aren't like you.

I could go out tomorrow and get pretty much any gun I wanted, but if it wasn't in a caliber I already owned and had ammo for, i wouldn't be able to take it to the range, because ammo is just too expensive, and too hard to find right now.

I thought the American dream connection was quite apt. If you look at the poor Appalachian areas for instance, coal towns and the like, there was a huge culture around providing for your family. Or alternatively leaving and making something big happen. If all of a sudden the towns start failing, coal becomes worthless, the factories close all of the people whose life was based around working to support something greater start loosing their purpose. Americans are big dreamers and big workers, despite everything the culture around working your way into success has stuck around. It still is true, and it still works for many people. However, in areas with big shifts the biggest dreamers get hit the hardest, and with how big the US is, lots of those areas are nicely out of sight in the country, or in a big city somewhere.

I have a friend who’s family immigrated from Liverpool to the US in the 60s when she was a teenager. I asked her about the stereotype of British people having bad teeth she said it was because back in the day before Britts had private dental insurance and you had to rely on the government for dental healthcare the weighting period to see a dentist was so long that a tooth with a small cavity would be so bad you’d have to get it pulled by the time you got to see the dentist. She also said cosmetic procedures were not covered, they didn’t worry about things like straight teeth or missing front teeth because that was considered cosmetic. Of course things are different now and Brits teeth are no better or worse than Americans and even if you don’t have private dental insurance the wait times aren’t as bad and they know that having missing or decaying front teeth can affect you psychologically. Half of the people suffering from depression or anxiety have poor teeth. PS. I also asked her if it was true that British people don’t shower but once or twice a week and she said yes they usually shower a couple of timesa week but wash their face and smelly bits daily and she said Americans were obsessed with showering.

Without looking anything up, I’m going to attempt to agree/debunk all of these. Just an American giving his average response. I’ve also traveled a good amount, lived in TN & moved to AZ. 1- Yes, we’re obese, but not all. Many Americans don’t tend to notice it considering we see it daily so we’re conditioned. Out west, a lot more people care about eating healthy & exercise. So you’ll see more fit people there. 2- Yes, we’re pretty ignorant to other countries history or cultures. I’m not sure if it’s our sheer lack of interest or care for other countries or simply because America is SO big that there’s a lot to learn just here. Many people I’ve spoken to hated world history but like US history. Either way, there are some Americans that know a lot about other societies, but definitely not everyone. Not to mention, we’re a melting pot of races so depending on your ethnicity, you’ll know more than other ethnicities. 3- Yes, we’re ignorant to politics. A lot of Americans at least. We tend to pick a side, republic or Democrat & go from there. It’s very stupid, but that’s who we are. Politics are also quite taboo to discuss so people tend to stray away unless you’re on Twitter... Anyway, WE LOVE SPORTS. there was a national outcry of sports being canceled from America if that says anything. For ex: we have like 80-100 million something people that watch super bowl every year while having 300 million Americans. 4- Yeah, we don’t travel a lot. Yes mainly because of expense. That’s a loaded question considering it could go many different ways. But on average we work more hours than many other first world countries. Or don’t get as many vacation days or sick days. As the uploader stated, USA is HUGE. ThTs part of the expense. Because it’s so big, we don’t really need to leave unless you TRULY want to. We have deserts, mountains, swamps, grasslands, cities, rural lands, oceans, volcanos, hundreds (maybe thousands) of national parks, & have a few of the most touristic cities on Earth. There’s so much to explore/learn here. We also don’t like culture shock, majority of us do not speak multiple languages & that’s very challenging for us. 5- We love entertainment period. Whether it’s KZbin (lol), TV, or movies. All I have to say, we get TV shows trending every single time they come on TV.. Keeping up with the Kardashians is a show for a reason. We like drama. 6- also a loaded one, whether it’s bad parenting, an injury, mental health problems, or a person who likes to have fun. We have a drug problem. Big pharma has done a lot of bad for America (the billionaires who make pills) I think I could speak for just about every American, we all know someone who’s either on a massive amount of medications or they’re just addicted. It’s not good. However, a lot of our drugs are used for intended purposes & get the desired effects. Unfortunately we really love to abuse them & doctors really love to prescribe them. We’ve also glorified drugs for years now through music. From rock n roll in the 70s to the rappers now. We’ve lost so many American rappers or rockstars to drug abuse. It’s incredibly sad. Although, they’ve gotten a little stricter on prescribing painkillers in recent years. 7- Granted I grew up in the south, I own two guns myself. I got my first gun at 10-13. This is definitely a controversial topic, but majority of people against guns have never owned or even shot a gun. Every gun owner I’ve met, have been very responsible no matter who they are. Gun owners know it’s a tool. With that being said, I’m not against certain gun laws, but banning will never happen or work. Also, we love that persona of us owning guns. I don’t think anyone would event attempt to invade our homeland lol. 8- Were patriotic, a lot of us. Maybe not recently because of all the arguing our politicians & media have caused but let’s ignore that. We’re patriotic because of freedom, simple as that. Free speech, right to bare arms, we do our best to help other countries when we can, we have the strongest military power, we have a strong economy, in the least arrogant way... we have everything! whatever you want out of life, we can basically offer all of it. 9- We have tons of culture, don’t believe it. We don’t have “American” culture exactly because of how young we are. However, we’re a melting pot of sooo many different races & cultures. We’ve blended it all together to give many great things to the world. Love America & love my American people. I equally love everyone around the world. Most Americans would welcome you with open arms given you abide by our laws. There are reasons why we have the highest immigration every year. Anyway, great video luka!! Hoping this was enjoyable/useful to read lol

@@foleys17 That's actually not true. The US isn't the worst, but it's nowhere near the best. Literally just Google "world's most equal countries" and there are no results in the first five pages that mention the US. We are not the most equitable country. Blacks are killed by unnecessary police violence. Non-Christians are targeted by Christians. Women are losing access to important medical care (abortion). The GOP is trying to restrict voters. More women have lost their jobs due to COVID than men. The poor do not have access to basic human rights, like food/water, clothing, and shelter. So no, the US is not the most equitable country in the world. Do some research before you go all patriotic.

@@warriyorcat Blacks are killed unnecessarily by police - I would encourage YOU to do your research on this topic. In nearly every widely reported case there are additional aspects to the story conveniently left out by the media's portrayal in order to stir up controversy. Non-Christians are targeted by Christians - How so? There are fringe groups from every major religion that target others, but there aren't any laws in the US giving Christians special advantage over others Abortion - Is abortion illegal in the US? (No, it's not) The GOP is trying to restrict voters - How? By trying to make sure only legal votes are counted? More women have lost their jobs to COVID than men - maybe due to the type of work? Men are more numerous in multiple fields that were labeled "essential" at the onset of the outbreak. The poor do not have access to basic human rights - But they do have access to the same opportunity as every other impoverished person in the country to improve their own situation. That's why so many immigrants continue to flock to the US for opportunity. Additionally, there are multiple institutions in place to assist minority groups in getting out of poverty. One last thing, "do some research" has to be the absolute laziest retort to give someone with a different world view.

You want cheese on your hamburger you say cheeseburger, you want just a plain hamburger without cheese you ask for a hamburger. BTW Mexico has surpassed USA, as far as obesity. Mexico fattest country Mexico passed as the most obese country in the world. The prevalence of overweight and obesity is 16.7% in preschool children, 26.2% in school children, and 30.9% in adolescents. For adults, the prevalence of overweight and obesity is 39.7 and 29.9%, respectively.

The stereotype of bad teeth was kind of based in reality but just in comparison to Americans’ teeth as when the NHS was put in in the 40’s dentistry wasn’t a big focus of health in the UK. In the US private dentistry has been around for decades and focused on immaculate teeth so people get their money’s worth.

A popular and really good anime series to start with would be Cowboy Bebop. It's kind of the obvious gem of anime, but for good reason. It's basically futuristic space bounty-hunts set to jazz. The bounty hunting crew is entertaining, the adventures are fun, the story lessons can be really deep at times, and the whole thing plays out with a fantastic ending. I'm sure you could make an argument for numerous other animes, but Cowboy Bebop gets my vote as it's really good, and pretty easy to get into. That, and it's only like 26 episodes in total, so you don't get bogged down.

As an American, I'm quite annoyed by the patriotism thing. Our primary schooling has been absolutely decimated in the last 20 years which is really what leads to the drop in patriotism. They used to teach how the US government worked, why those choices were made, and what the alternatives are. A lot of teachers banded together and decided to teach a very negative and narrow take on this. It's much more common in schools for students to learn that the founding fathers of the country were racist were than why the electoral college system was created or how legislation become law. The result is that a lot of young people have been taught in school to focus on the things that the US has done wrong rather than the things the US has done right. I've spent more than 6 months of my life in the UK and years working with people from the UK and Europe. What always strikes me as odd is that many people I've met there don't know how their government operates. They have no idea how laws get passed, how elections work, or how who their local representation is. As someone in his 30s who caught the tail end of when they taught actual history in school instead of "how to hate your history", I find the change in the US very disturbing. The US was always a place where civics, the rights and obligations of citizens in society, was seen as a mandatory participation. Becoming a mayor or state assemblyman was seen as not just a privilege, but a service to do for your fellow citizens. Now that it's gone, the rich and powerful grow more so every day because the people don't realize that they have the power to change it. They think that marching down the street and breaking windows or organizing on Twitter is how you make change happen because they have no idea (haven't been taught) how to get involved in civics.

I went to the Univ of London in the 1970's. Not only did the Brits have bad teeth, many wouldn't wear eyeglasses. My understanding is back then, they didn't have access to good dentistry (not on the NHS? Too expensive?) and the eyeglasses from the NHS weren't attractive. If you didn't pay for private stuff, you got the crappy government stuff. I think it's changed a bit now, but that's what I observed back then.
