I heard u keep asking, "r they k" and "did he say flipping isn't that bad". So the answer is yes they r k and 99% of the time get out of the car under their own power. They're r times yes after a really bad accident they will take them to the hospital if need be, but most of the time they get checked out by medical at the track and go take a shower lol. Yes it's crazy but those cars r built to take that damage and make sure nothing really bad happens to the driver. Like the commentator saying "flipping isn't that bad" is tru, cause u r locked into a seat to where u can't really move at all (except ur arms, like u can barely move ur head). Also they have a really strong roll cage in the car that makes sure when u do flip or get in a bad accident, that the car doesn't just crumble and cave in on u. I promise pretty much 99% of the time they r perfectly fine and ready to back out there next week.

Oh sry BTW u should do a video on how they build these cars, it's actually crazy wut they do and how much money goes into each car. And there are some teams that have 4 drivers on the team, and each driver has like 2 or 3 cars for pretty much each track. Which BTW they're 36 races in a year lol, some of the races r at the same track. Like the will have a race at a track in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year and then later on race their again. But ya I think u will like the videos on how the cars r made and just how safe they r

The Ryan Newman crash at 9:00, he had been strong advocate for car safety before this, and got nascar to add an additional support bar to the roll cage designed to protect the driver from a highspeed impact to the driver's side roof. They even call it the Newman bar. That bar with his name on it saved his life in that crash...the safety crews had to cut him out of the car, and he went straight to the hospital, but 2 days later he WALKED OUT of the hospital holding hands with his kids, and was back racing just a few weeks later. If he hadn't have fought to get that extra bit of safety in the car he would have almost certainly been killed in that crash.

The last fatal crash in NASCAR was on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500, when Dale Earnhardt Sr hit the wall at nearly 200mph, breaking his neck and killing him instantly. After this crash, NASCAR made a lot of significant changes, including the mandatory use of the HANS (Head And Neck Support) device, and full-face helmets.

They survive those crashes because the roll cages are impossible to crush, and the drivers are so tightly strapped into their seats that the only part of their bodies that can move is their forearms and legs. Their heads can only move ever-so slightly, to allow their eyes to see the different mirrors. They are so safe in there that only one of the drivers, in those wrecks, had injuries that needed treatment, other than bruises.

In the past 20 years, racing as a whole skyrocketed with interest in safety. Other series have been investing in safety for the past 40 years. The last death in the top 3 series was in 2001 with Blaise Alexander Jr. in the NASCAR (then called) Busch Series, which is the 2nd highest series for NASCAR. From 1991 to 2001, NASCAR had 9 deaths, including Neil Bonnett, Dale Earnhardt Sr, Adam Petty, and Kenny Irwin Jr., in the top 3 NASCAR series.

I grew up near Charlotte Motor Speedway and all the race teams are local to that area as well. The wreck wasn't in this compilation but it is similar to that Rusty Wallace crash at 8:10 where the car rolls over about a dozen times but a driver named Darrell Waltrip had a nearly identical crash. We used to go visit the different race shops in the area and at Darrell Waltrip's shop they had the wreckage from the car that he rolled and it was so bad. It's one thing to see the wreck/car on video, it's another thing to see the result in person. It's a miracle that the drivers are able to survive the wrecks but there have been several deaths especially in the early 2000s that made NASCAR drastically re-evaluate their safety protocols.

When they say the flipping isn't that bad, what they mean is that it's the LANDING you have to worry about. For example, in 2011, Justin Wilson, a former IndyCar driver who was tragically killed in an accident in 2015, was driving in practice for a race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course when he got off-track and ran over a bump that caused his car to leap a foot or two off the ground. It landed on all-fours, and overall the incident didn't look like much. But the force of the landing actually caused him to suffer a fracture in his back that sidelined him for the rest of the season. When you see a car barrel-rolling like in this video, what's happening is the car is absorbing most of the force of the impact, dissipating the energy from the crash. The worst wrecks you could possibly see are ones where the car bounces off of something and comes to an almost dead stop immediately, because in those situations, the driver is absorbing more of the force from the impact. You want a car to keep moving after a crash so it dissipates as much of the energy from the crash as possible

They're not using fiberglass anymore. The bodies are now made of carbon fiber. TeXtreme is woven spread toe carbon fiber. Then they use a hybrid of that with Innegra. Innegra alone is 30 times tougher than Aramid. And as composite it is impenetrable. At least for anything they would encounter on the track. I'm sure it's not stopping a 50 cal.lol And then as you said polycarbonate for the windows. Have worked with composites for nearly 40 years. Start decades ago in Aerospace. 🚜🤠🐂

I mean when Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt was first driving, it was just getting into a standard car no safety equipment or anything except for a helmet. And yet they could win races. Now when those two great drivers first started driving that's when NASCAR was really really dangerous. Back then it was extremely easy for a car to flip really bad and in fact sometimes the cars would end up flipping into the stands where the people were watching the race. But if you want to really watch something that's crazy there's a car thing called demolition derby "" OMG ""😱😱🤣🤣 now that is crazy.

Hey, Adam! My husband used to race on dirt tracks (before I met him, thank the Lord) and told me so many crazy stories! Believe it or not, the cages in these cars are extremely safe for the drivers. Of course, anything can and does happen from time to time. My husband is now building a gasser in our shop to race and hopefully to sell to someone watching the race. It's a 1955 Chevy drag car that he'll race against another car to see who gets the best time....I think! Lol!! I don't know a whole lot about these but he's pretty excited and even told me I'm going to do some of the racing! (uh, I don't know about that but we'll see)! At the track, the two cars line up and usually use a light system that goes from red, to yellow, to green and when you see green, you hit the gas!! LOL!!! And it's normally a 1/4 mile heads up race! I am pretty excited to just be able to watch him but to also try it myself....and at my age, it will definitely be something to see... or laugh at!! Anyway, when the ol' man watches NASCAR, I have to put my headphones on and click onto one of your videos because I can't stand to see how fast they're going and of course the crashes....it terrifies me....and well, you always make me laugh, so there's that! The last time a driver in Nascar died was in February of 2001 when we lost Dale Earnhardt Sr. However even that death could have possibly been avoided since there was safety equipment that drivers could wear but were not required to by the rules and Dale Earnhardt Sr. was very much an old school driver that didn't want to wear any of that stuff. Needless to say after that death (Dale Earnhardt Sr. was a living legend in the Nascar world) rules were changed an that equipment became mandatory.
@karlamackey4675
@karlamackey4675 6 ай бұрын
Some of the wrecks happen because the driver behind them intentionally knocks them out of the way to get a head. The Big tracks, like Daytona and Talladega, the cars get into a cluster which can cause the "Big One" and it's hard to see who all was involved until the smoke clears. One thing that helps them get out of the car easier is that the steering wheel comes off. They don't have to struggle as much to climb out. There's so little room inside the car that everytime the driver gets in or out the steering wheel has to be removed. After Dale Earnhardt, Sr. died in the Daytona 500 in February of 2001, the first race of the season ( which is February through November), the HANS devise became mandatory for all drivers. I think that's what it's called. Please correct me if I'm wrong. HANS prevents the driver's head from moving to, hopefully, keep them from dying. Had Earhardt, Sr have been wearing one he would be alive today. And, yes, there is POV in the cars and they do show what they see, especially when there's a wreck. ( I've never been a fan of NASCAR I just watched it with my husband before he passed away. He taught me a lot about NASCAR. I haven't watched it since 2013 so I've forgotten a lot about it. ) The NASCAR Hall of Fame is in Charlotte, NC.

These cars are incredibly safe. There hasn't been a death in the top three NASCAR series in twenty-three years. And, actually, not that many serious injuries. Those rollovers (other than Ryan Newman''s) don't tend to be the worst wrecks. The ones that cause the worst injuries are the sudden stops into the wall or if a car lifts up into the catch fence and gets cheese-gratered. It's worth noting that despite how terrifying it looked, Ryan Preece climbed out of his car after that wreck at 7:40. He had two black eyes the next day but no serious injuries despite rolling 12 or 13 times. The last three wrecks (Rusty Wallace, Ryan Newman 2020, and Geoffrey Bodine 2000) were the only ones that had broken bones or serious injuries. And all three were back racing in weeks to months.

The wreck physically TORE DOWN the "Catch Femces" the severely injured several sending them to the hispital with many more treated there. It was early in the race, and subsequently the race was red flagged... cars parked on the speedway until the injured were treated, removed and repairs to the fence could be made. Leaders were turning laps at 205mph PLUS. It was later that ywar that "restrictor" plates were mandated at all "super speedways" reducing the airflow through carburetor thus reducing horsepower.

The cars today are, thankfully, *spectacularly* safe compared to the past. There are a few more I would have included in that video including the Sadler crash they actually mentioned at one point - that car rolled more than a quarter of a mile after getting air and landing flat on its roof. It inspired a whole new system of deployable flaps on the roofs of the cars to help prevent the cars creating aero lift when spun around backwards.

@3:30 Yes if you are wrecking, flipped upside down or what ever, if you cross the finish line before everyone else you are still the winner. Also no you shouldn't expect wrecks like this in every nascar race. there are only three tracks right now that could produce this type of racing. Daytona, Talladega and Atlanta. Doesn't mean flipping can't happen at other tracks, but its less likely because of the speeds are lower and/or their isn't a "pack" of cars as they get spread out.

My aunt used to own a bussiness selling used nascar parts, they would buy wrecked cars salvage what they could and resell it , alot of times it was to armature leagues because those cars are extremely expensive. but they actually got to meet alot of the drivers and crews and had the hood of some drivers car with a bunch of signatures on it

Blows my mind that in the racing I do it’s common for people to brake their hands when we crash out. Best bet when you loose control and theirs no hope let go of the wheel. I haven’t heard of a nascar racer braking their hands on impact.speaking from experience a car catch fire during a race is terrifying. I know when nascar catch fire while up side down at 180 mph it’s time for driver to change his pants 😂

He made a full recovery but was in the hospital for 3-5 days and went on record saying he had no recollection of the accident happening. He has since retired from full time NASCAR racing and does part time races for smaller teams and does small scale short track racing 👍🏻👍🏻🔥

You may like to know about some of the Nascar tracks like Daytona Super Speedway and Talladega Super Speedway that they do get up to 200 miles per hour when two or three cars line up behind each other punching a larger hole through the air!!!! (Using the draft) pucked up behind as close as they can!!!! A lot of times, pushing the car in front of them on purpose for more speed, then back off before the turn!!!! Oh yeah, each lap at Daytona is 2.5 miles, and a lap at Talladega is 2.66 miles!!!! A Daytona race has 250 laps!!!! A Talladega race has 188 laps!!!! 43 cars start in all of the Nascar races!!!! Also, the engines produce 950 horsepower but can only have a displacement of no more than 355ci!!!! Those cars weigh 3,500 pounds each!!!!

Watching NASCAR on video doesn't even com close to seeing it in person. You should try to plan a trip if you can. I've only been to New Hampshire and Pocono (Being the only two races near me). Going from seeing races on a mile oval (NH) to a two and a half mile triangle (Pocono) was a shock, just seeing the size difference of the tracks, let alone the speed.

You'll notice in one of the POV videos that those cars are build with reinforced crash cages inside to help in case of something like this to strengthen the frame of the car and to protect the driver. Without those extra features in those cars they would have crumpled like tin cans from the impacts instead of being mostly intact.

When Dale Earnhardt died, NASCAR died for me. If memory serves me, NASCAR came about due to the good ole days of running moonshine. The moonshiners had to outrun the law. Thus, NASCAR was born. Also, when accidents happen on the track, each team has several "spotters" in the stands to tell the driver to go high or to go low. In an attempt to steer the driver through any accident, so they don't get caught up in it. When the field comes around to take the green, it's crazy. You can fill the vibrations going through your body as the cars pass so fast. It's amazing. Usually, they start with about 40 cars and end up with maybe 30 of them left by the end of the race.

the quote was "The flipping isn't that bad, it's the landing." and that's absolutely right. especially when it lands on the roof. everytime it hits the ground is an impact through the body. But thankfully that kind of flipping takes energy away without a huge, single deceleration.

The safety features implemented now cause the cars to basically come apart in a crash. So the car takes the brunt of the power when it self destructs. Before this, the cars were more solid metal, and the driver got more of the impact. Plus, the newer safety features in roll cages and safety harness "seatbelts" have made it possible for there to be fewer injuries!

That last crash was Geoff Bodine. If you Google images of that crash, you'll see that the entire roll cage, save for the rear hoop, was sheared off by the impact with the fence. That whole crash where he's flipping, getting hit by other trucks, all of it happened with most of the roll cage gone. Somehow he lived. He then went on to design bobsleds for the American Olympic team, and they won their first medals in decades using his designs.

You need to check out Dale Earnhardt’s flip at Daytona. He flips the car and comes to rest. All wrecks like that the driver is taken to the infield care center. So he is in the ambulance and looks at the car and is like, it has all it wheels…..So he asks a track worker if it will start. It does so he GETS BACK IN THE CAR and continues to race!!!!

A few things i thing is important to know. #1 most of these tracks is steep. The videos look flat but some are so steep you cant really even walk up them. #2 the flaps on top is suppose to help but it seems like alot of the time. The air catches them flaps and cause them to flip more. #3 the inside view is hard to see in a crash except for seeing them let go of rhe steering wheel. Apparently it jerks so bad itll break your wrist if you hold on. You may have already seen it but "the day" about dale Earnhardt is pretty interesting. **side note im no expert but oddly it seems like the bad accidents arent as bad for the person but the ones that seem like its minor is deadly.
@seannolan9857

Flipping crashes tend to disappate the energy. So-called 'minor crashes' are ones where the car slams headfirst into a wall and suddenly stops, putting all the force of the impact on the driver.
