Tiger Stadium is my favorite. I’m somewhat biased because I’m an LSU fan. I’ve been going to the games since I was six years old. I have converted two very anti-LSU guys into LSU fans just by bringing them to a game. It is a really exciting environment both inside and outside the stadium. It seats 102,000 fans, but there are just many outside the stadium tailgating during the game. Its electric. And yes it has caused earthquakes! I was there this year for the Alabama vs LSU game where it happen twice that night. It got so loud for most of the game that you couldn’t hear yourself talk at times.

The reason the Texas A&M Stadium doesn't have any chairs on one side is because it is student seating. According to Aggie (Texas A&M) Traditions the crowd/students are the 12th man on the field and stay standing the whole game. I would recommend looking at other Aggie traditions such as the Aggie War Hymn

I went to college at Texas A&M and have been to 5 seasons worth of games as a student. It is truly an amazing experience! As for the chair backs, at Kyle Field, you'll notice one side has chair backs and the rest of the stadium doesn't. This is because the fans are known as the 12th Man and the students stand for the entire game. Former students and other season ticket holders typically don't stand so they have chair backs. It seems you're very interested in college football. I think it would be awesome to see your reaction to different college traditions, especially those at Texas A&M (this is a college that prides itself on tradition). I would like your thoughts on some great Texas A&M traditions like the 12th Man, Bonfire, Midnight Yell, etc.

There are a few college stadiums that are roofed/indoors but they are very rare. It does rain a lot in the South. Most areas of the South get double the rainfall of what London gets in a year. Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA is built into the existing topography of the campus. Literally, you're walking along and all of a sudden this giant stadium appears. I was driving close to Athens so I decided to go and see Sanford Stadium since I was so close. I'd never been to Athens before so I did not know where the stadium was located. As I figured the UGA campus was easy to find but the stadium not so much. You think that something that big would stand out and be easily seen. I rode through there about three times and then a gave up and started to leave. As I was driving away I said I've got to see this stadium, so I turned around and went to look again. I just happened to turn down a street and I ended up on the east side of the stadium where you can actually see the structure of the stadium. If not for that I would have never seen the stadium. It sits so low and the surrounding is so built up that it is almost camouflaged. The one good thing about driving on that east was that I got to see the perspective from which the track people used to view the game before they built stands on that side of the stadium. Well not really their perspective since all I saw was an imposing concrete stand.

The SEC's marketing tagline is "It Just Means More." The traditions, the atmospheres both in the stadium & at the tailgates, even the sheer sizes of most of the stadiums are the grandest not just in college football but all of gridiron football. A middle of the pack stadium in the SEC seats about 80,000 fans at capacity; which is more than nearly all NFL stadiums.

Cool reaction video. As a Georgia fan (Sanford Stadium) I can tell you some things. Sanford Stadium was originally built in a little valley. Over time the Stadium and campus has grown around the field which is why it sits low and looks nestled into the campus. You mentioned some of the stadiums are not enclosed. At least at Sanford Stadium, they haven't closed the open end zone because of the view of the campus from inside. The vibe that view gives is popular, and there are no plans to close it right now even though it would increase capacity to over 100,000. That may change since a lot of the other SEC stadiums have expanded a lot lately. Sometimes we wish the stadiums were at least a little covered. Summers in the southeast US are very hot and humid. The season starts in September, and there is not much relief until mid October. Still, you'd enjoy a college football game in the SEC. Each school has unique traditions from its colors, chants, marching bands, mascots, half time shows, and of course the pre-game tailgate. It's always a great time! Here is one of our traditions, we bark during kickoffs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqPYoKdmi6uhjKc

I want to speak up for the UGA experience. The most unique feature are the pathways on both sides of the field surrounded by hedges. Every fan is allowed to come down to the field and take photos before, during and after the games with the players and celebrities' who are on the sideline for the game. They have security to keep people moving, but they are always super polite and allow you to get your photo to help complete your game day experience. Something to take note of also is that almost no College Football Stadium or Field sells their naming rights away. Sanford Stadium in Georgia is named after a former English Professor who helped build the School's athletics program and Dooley Field which the Stadium surrounds is named after a former Coach of the team who recently passed away just this year. As for Tailgating. It's a way of making Gameday a full day event. With fans setting up Tailgate parties outside the stadium before the sun comes up, drinking, socializing and either going inside for the game or just staying outside with a TV and a generator to watch the game right outside the Stadium.

Tailgating is basically a campus-wide party and cookout on game day. You'll find tents set up throughout parking lots, houses, and parks near campus, and it's generally a friendly atmosphere all around. People bring giant grills to make all kinds of food, plenty of booze, and very often if you just walk around, people will welcome you into their little spot and have a chat about the game, play cornhole, drink, and be merry. It's just a giant pregame for the whole fanbase before they go to the stadium. Rival fans who are visiting are also welcome, as long as they're friendly, which they normally are.

I went from undergrad at UMass in Massachusetts (great tailgates, but terrible football) to grad school at UT in Knoxville (Neyland Stadium in this video), so I’m a newbie fan myself!! The SEC has a huge reputation because their teams are repeatedly in the championships. There are usually multiple parking lots with specific tickets for lots near the stadiums. And it’s very common for US stadiums to be completely open, even in the cold Northeast. I will say, there’s something nostalgic for tailgating when you have a bad team. The parking lots are much more widespread, so there was a lot more room for tailgating and more students & clubs could be involved. But - SEC college football experiences are really something different. It’s genuinely invigorating. Full marching bands and parades before every game, fireworks for every goal, the atmosphere is insane. You saw the tradition of singing Rocky Top already! And there are full sections at either end zone of only student seating!! The student tickets you have to enter a raffle to get the chance to buy tickets, and it’s selected the week before each game. It’s also crazy attending as a grad student, as I’ve been a TA long enough I’m now watching students play that I taught my first semester! And I can only imagine how their classmates & friends feel!

Hey man! I love your videos! It reminds me so much of when I first started watching college football a few years when I was a freshman at UGA (GO DAWGS)! It's so cool to see how you're slowly piecing together an understanding of why we all love it so much. If I can recommend you to learn something neat and absurd about the sport, it'd be how national championships are awarded. It's long been a controversial topic and to an outsider it won't make sense at first! Also, I'd love to see you do a reaction to a full game, (like the 2022 National Championship Game of course!) I think you'd appreciate seeing all the traditions and intensity come together!

You were talking about tailgating, nothing like doing it in the SEC. I call Knoxville Home, and it's not quite what it used to be, but it still is quite the party outside the stadium on game day. You'll have 101K fans in the stadium during the game, and you'll have another 100-150k fans outside the stadium tailgating, watching the game, on TV's powered by their cars or boats, or generators. All while doing a cookout. The fans are super friendly, even if your are wearing the opposing teams colors, they will try to make to feel at home and feed you a good meal and let you watch the game with them. I'm going to try to include a couple of pics i've found of some of the tailgating. Just so you know, the Vol Navy, is not what it used to be, it used to be big enough to go clear across Ft. Louden lake (thats the name of the river), and up and down stream for about 1/2 a mile, all boats tied up together, you could just walk from one to another. www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.knoxnews.com%2Fstory%2Fnews%2F2020%2F09%2F11%2Fvol-navy-university-tennessee-tailgaters-face-restrictions-knoxville%2F3467425001%2F&psig=AOvVaw0CCZnheYsDAr2GjaFbngiq&ust=1669765832829000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CA4QjRxqFwoTCIDEqdGI0vsCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAM www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Frockytopgifts.com%2Fblogs%2Fblog%2Ftennesse-vols-neyland-stadium-gameday-guide&psig=AOvVaw0ThXp4Mgnr3kS8CMfk5SJo&ust=1669766107118000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=2ahUKEwjDstPOidL7AhVQp2oFHS0ICXkQjRx6BAgAEAo www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.865area.com%2Ftennessee%2Fknoxville%2Frecreation%2Fvol-navy-boaters_-association.htm&psig=AOvVaw0CCZnheYsDAr2GjaFbngiq&ust=1669765832829000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CA4QjRxqFwoTCIDEqdGI0vsCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAa

At Mississippi State and Ole Miss as well, we tailgate in the grass mostly. That big field behind our (Mississippi State) standalone scoreboard is called The Junction and is normally packed with tents, grills and party games like corn hole. We also have more tailgating across the street from the Junction and around the other sides of the stadium, though most tailgating is done in the junction. We have a live DJ/band out there, food trucks, etc. It's just a fun place to hang out before the game. If you ever come to visit my university, come by and I'll give you a tour of all our athletic facilities.

The noise already makes it hard for the away team to play but when this happened Tennessee collapse and got dominated. They couldn’t hear anything at all when the offense was on the field.

Sanford Stadium was actually used for some of the soccer/football matches in the 1992 Atlanta Olympics. In order to make the field regulation size UGA was told they would have to remove the famous hedges, but there was a problem. After their initial planting years before that species of box hedge went on the invasive species list. So all the hedges had to be uprooted and kept in pots off site until after the Olympics. Also, our mascot is also a bulldog and all of the mascots have been cremated and interred in a mausoleum just off the field.

LSU has some of THE best "tailgating" experiences of all of college football. For a Saturday night game, people will show up early in the morning, set up & start eating & drinking. Everything from pop-up tents & chairs to quarter million dollar RVs. As a guest, you could literally go from group to group & have them offer you food & drink - very big on hospitality. Picture a pub crawl from spot to spot for food & drinks. Lots of specialty foods as well (BBQ, seafood, gumbo, jambalaya & other Cajun fixtures). As far as atmosphere, I've been to some Rugby & NFL matches in England when I lived there. They were great. Listening to the different team's chants is great (I asked my mate what the Leeds Rhinos were chanting & he replied "You really don't want to know", lol). Tiger stadium is over 5 times the size of Headlingley - can't even compare the noise between the two. Called "Death Valley" (originally DEAF Valley) for a reason! Cheers!

You definitely need to make a trip during the fall sometime. Many of the towns these stadiums in are just really great places. I’m very partial to Athens, GA myself. One of the oldest college towns in the US, campus is all built into the rolling hills beautifully and the downtown has great spots for food and hanging out. Auburn, AL is solid for a game weekend. True college town with as lot of tradition. Both Athens and Auburn are less than a 2 hour drive from the Atlanta airport. Knoxville, TN. I cannot stand the orange and don’t think their stadium itself is anything special, but I don’t think anything beats the location along the river and I love how people will drive their boats to come to the game. Baton Rouge and LSU is absolutely notorious for the night game atmosphere. Day game, maybe skip it, but night game is a bucket list sort of thing for college football fans.

This also applies to after the game, and the whole thing can be an all day affair including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Certain stadiums (Like Tennessee) located near a body of water will have fans dock and tailgate off of their boats. South Carolina I believe has literal train cars that people will park next to the stadium.

The cost could quickly become a factor in adding a full dome or covering to the stadiums. And it would also limit the upgrades that could be done to the stadium as well. I am sure there would be talk of the one stadium that has a dome, that team has some sort of an advantage, so just make all stadiums in the s.e.c the same and you don't have to worry with all that noise. Other than that Go Dawgs!

A lot of places have big car parks just so there is space for people. I have a feeling it’s where tailgating originated, people driving a few hours in the morning to a match and they get there and drink/grill at their car instead of walking an hour away to find food and drink

Tailgating can be many things , but imagine a barbeque in your backyard....but transport that to just outside of these big massive stadiums. Lots of folks bring portable grills to be able to whip up some burgers/hot dogs/whatever ... but really, you can get creative. Bring a comfortable folding chair, some sunglasses, your drink of choice and you're probably going to have a great time! The real attraction is the amount of drinking going on-- some people just like to walk around the large tailgating areas as if it's just one big massive party. Lots of folks also bring satellite dishes and set up tents/projectors or big TVs to watch other college games while they wait until it's time to go inside for the game they are attending....others may actually just go specifically to tailgate and watch the game without even having tickets for the game about to take place at the stadium.... so, in other words, it's like going to the pub or bar before a game, but you bring your own setup and have your own space to hang out while also getting to experience the insanity of tailgating in general. Tailgating is a really unique thing that also has a place before NFL games but, IMO, it's just stale and a bit lifeless by comparison to tailgating before a big college game on Saturdays in the south. If you do plan a trip to experience a big game, I would highly recommend a big rivalry -- the energy/passion/electricity in the stadium with every big play is simply special. Some of my favorite sports memories involve games that I've had big tailgates beforehand while also attending (I'm a SC Gamecocks fan) like our 2010 win over Alabama (defending national champs and ranked #1 at the time), the 2012 game against Georgia (both teams ranked in top 5, and we blew away Georgia....the loudest I've ever heard any crowd at any point during any game of any kind i've attended, which is probably 100+ games/matches) among others. Also, just a few weeks ago, beating a 3+ touchdown favorite -- #5 Tennessee in shocking, blowout fashion was way way up there too! Great video, you have a new subscriber....cheers mate!

Tailgating is part of the of the game in itself! For bigger programs, people will bring RV’s and campers as early as Tuesday for a Saturday game. Each tailgate has their own food, music, alcohol, and games (cornhole, pong, ETC.) A lot of schools often have signature food/drinks based on the local culture or opposing mascot. For instance, if you’re playing Florida, you’ll grill an alligator, or if you’re playing Arkansas, you cook a hog. On game day, especially for a noon game, tailgates will start as early as 7am. Fraternities often have private lots which are essentially giant parties, and they are typically near the other tailgates. It is important to understand that tailgates go much further than parking lots. It is essentially thousands of little parties morphed into one giant one. I recommend a video on LSU alone! LSU HAS THEIR OWN TIGER HABITAT NEXT TO THE STADIUM P.S. love your interest and passion. I hope you can come to the South and experience some SEC football! Keep making these!

A college football game at a large university is a must for any sports fan, from anywhere... It's up there with a World Cup, or the Olympics, or one of the world's great football derbies. The best tailgating experiences take place in locales with great reputations for food. But a great time can be had nearly anywhere. Tailgating is a uniquely American experience. American fans have incorporated it into MLS. Some clubs do the traditional pub-to-stadium walk with chants, banners, and drum lines. Others have adopted tailgating to the match day experience. I would be interested to hear you react to some MLS videos - some of our blossoming derbies, great goals, etc. Given your club and league loyalty, you might not be as dismissive and snooty as your southern neighbors - most of whom find MLS "quaint" or "cute" at best. The reality is, it's a global top ten premiership with a unique flavor... Influences from British terraces, Latin American culture, and American traditions grafted from other sports. I genuinely believe you'd be impressed. I truly believe both Old Firm clubs would struggle with the top third of the league.

I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying your American Football discovery journey. Tailgating is the pre-game party outside the stadium and some people don't even have tickets to the game. When I lived in Jacksonville, I'd go to the Florida/Georgia game just to go to the tailgate. That game is called the, "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" unofficially. I'd have a blue t-shirt and hang out with the Florida side for a while then change into a red t-shirt and hang with the Georgia side for a while. You'd be a hit at any tailgate because people will want to teach you about the game and your not afraid to have a beer. You'll find tailgating outside of most (if not all) college and NFL stadiums. Even some high schools.

Tailgating began with fans coming to a game in their pickup trucks. A pickup truck's tail (end of the truck) has a gate that can be unlatched to provide an opening to load items, such as be food, drinks or a BBQ grill. That grill is imperative to a tailgating party.

Tailgating is super important in the SEC. Where I went to at Ole Miss, tailgating (or "Groving" because we did it in the Grove on campus) could be argued to be more important to the fans, which kinda hurts the atmosphere in game. The reason why some of the stadiums might not be fully around the field is that the growth of stadiums has been fairly recent. At Ole Miss, the completely closed in endzones wasn't completed until the early 2000s for the south endzone and the mid-2010s for the north endzone. Mississippi State didn't close in their closed endzone until the mid-2010s as well.

Tailgating is a necessity started in the South. Most Universities with large football fan bases are located in small towns far from populated areas. In the SEC and other conferences, these small towns can double their pop during game day. There simply is no place to feed or house the fans. So the fans learned to bring their own food and especially drink and tailgate all day in the parking lot. This has evolved over the years to include more creature comforts using RV’s and campers. Good luck renting an RV in the state of Tennessee on the weekend of a home game in Knoxville.

Almost no ncaa stadiums have roofs (I believe syracuse is the only fbs team with one) so they can expand more, pretty much every stadium started much smaller and have consistently grown by adding new sections. 8:20 - This year after the Alabama game, Tennessee fans tore down the goal posts and chucked them in that river. Also, putting Neyland stadium at #7 is a crime - it's the only truly enclosed, two layer coliseum in the conference, and one of the loudest places you'll ever experience (assuming it's an important game). Also, you should find a video of the team "running through the T" to enter the stadium. The marching forms a giant "T" that opens up from the entrance all the way to mid field for the team to run through onto their sideline. Really a fun spectacle at night.
