British Guy Reacts to South USA - The DONT's of Visiting The South
In this video The British Guy (AKA Mr H and friends) will be reacting to Wolters World - South USA - The Don'ts of Visiting the South !
Full Credit to Mark Wolters the creator of the original Film:
• South USA - The Don'ts...
Here are a few DON'TS Of Visiting The South (SOUTH USA)
Don’t Forget Your Manners !!
Manners are still a big deal in the South. Saying “please” & “thank you” or “yes, sir” and “no, ma’am” are all part of the Southern lexicon. It’s not optional, it’s how you should speak when you’re in the South. Respect for elders is still very much part of Southern culture, so expect to hold the door for anyone behind you, and you will give up your seat when an elderly person comes by, and the list of Southern manners you need to remember will be long, but don’t worry, the locals will remind you if you forget one.
Don’t Forget to Smile in the South
Along with manners, most people in the South are happy and friendly. A smile goes a long way, and when you see everyone else smiling, you can’t help but smile, too! So don’t think the locals are sizing you up or think you are silly they are just happy to live in the part of the US with the best food and friendliest people.
Don’t Be Surprised if Locals Approach You
People in the South are so friendly that they think nothing of approaching a stranger on the street and striking up a conversation. Whether you’re at the grocery store, eating at a restaurant, shopping at the mall or just out for a walk, you better put on a smile and be ready to converse with anyone who crosses your path. The best part is they will be more than glad to help! Which leads into our next don’t…
The South USA enjoys a subtropical climate, bringing hot and humid summers and cool winters. The milder seasons of spring and autumn are the best times to visit, but the sticky heat of summer brings an exciting, sun-drenched atmosphere to the region
The Spring:
The warm, pleasant days and cool nights of spring make it a lovely time to visit the USA’s South. In Texas, many festivals and rodeo events are held during this period, while the glorious wildflowers of Big Bend National Park burst into colour sometime between March and April. The mild weather also makes this an enjoyable time to look for alligators in Louisiana’s swamps.
Summer:
By June, temperatures across the Southern states are hotting up, reaching an average of around 30°C in July and August, although they have been known to push 40°C. Days are hot and humid, with coastal areas prone to more rain than elsewhere and thunderstorms not uncommon. Cool off by the sea in Gulf Coast towns such as Corpus Christi or on the banks of the San Antonio River.
Autumn / Fall:
After the heat and humidity of summer have passed, the milder temperatures and dry days of September and October make autumn a wonderful time of year to visit the South. The days remain warm, so hiking, biking and bayou touring are still possible, and it’s a good time to stay on a ranch, although you might want to bring a jacket for those chilly evenings.
Winter:
By December, temperatures are much lower, hovering around the 4°C mark, although they rarely drop below freezing. That said, snow is not unheard of in Nashville and Memphis, and there’s generally more rain across the entire region at this time. As the Christmas holidays approach, decorations go up countrywide and fairy lights turn on, giving the cities a magical feel.

There's 2 types of Republicans: One believes in conspiracy theories like somehow Trump actually won and the other believes in democracy and knows Biden won because there's no way that 2020 was the year we all decided to somehow rig an election. *HEAVILY UPDATED W/ CONTRIBUTIONS * ADVICE FOR ANYONE MOVING TO THE SOUTH 1. Save all bacon grease. You will be instructed later how to use it. 2. If you do run your car into a ditch, don't panic. Four men in the cab of a four wheel drive with a 12-pack of beer and a tow chain will be along shortly. Don't try to help them. Just stay out of their way. This is what they live for. dont even try to pay them unless your paying in beer. 3. Remember: "Y'all" is singular. "All y'all" is plural. "All y'all's" is plural possessive. 4. Get used to the phrase "It's not the heat, it's the humidity". And the collateral phrase "You call this hot? Wait'll August." 5. Don't tell us how you did it elsewhere. Nobody cares. 6. If you think it's too hot, don't worry. It'll cool down-in December. 7. A Mercedes-Benz is not a status symbol, a Chevy, Dodge, or Ford is. 8. If someone says they're "fixin" to do something, that doesn't mean anything's broken. 9. The value of a parking space is not determined by the distance to the door, but the availability of shade. 10. If you are driving a slower moving vehicle, on a two lane road pull onto the shoulder that is called "courtesy". 11. BBQ is a food group. It does NOT mean grilling burgers and hot dogs outdoors. 12. Yes, weddings, funerals, and divorces must take into account for UT Football games. Never schedule events on saturday in the fall. 13. Everything is better with Ranch dressing. 14. DO NOT honk your horn at us to be obnoxious, we will sit there until we die. 15. We pull over and stop for emergency vehicles to pass. 16. We pull over for funeral processions, turn our music off and men remove hats or caps. Some people put their hand over their heart. 17. "Bless your Heart" is a nice way of saying you're an idiot or i feel sorry for you. 18. No matter what kind : sprite, coke, pepsi, mtn dew, it isn't called soda or pop. It is all called coke. 19. There will always be a tractor on the two lane when you are running late, so allow time for that. 20. If you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes, it will change. 21. if you think it gets hot where you're from, try 90 degrees heat with 90 percent humidity. you literally breathe water. 22. "Just down the road a piece" may mean a 100 miles or so. 23. A good percentage of the people are nice, polite, and heavily armed. 24. Chili is also a food group. 25. The most common vehicle is a pickup. Some of those pickups cost close to $100,000. 26. We can and do fry almost everything but water. We are working on water. 27. You also have to realize "The South" is a huge area and there is a lot of variation in that area. 28. Don't forget to have an RC Cola and a Moon Pie. 29. our farm equipment costs more than most houses 30. Don't try to talk to us in a fake Southern accent. We will look at you like you have lobsters crawling out your ears. 31. in a small town the form of entertainment is driving around town with your bass as high it will go 32. if someone tells you "ill be there in a minute", be prepared to wait a minute or an hour 33. We won't judge you based on your kids actions, we'll judge you based on how you react. 34. Always remember: there's the South, and then there's Florida. Two different things. 35. if someone asks you "hows your mom n them" theyre being polite 36. if you can't taste the diabetes in your sweet tea, then it ain't sweet tea 37. "Where y'all from?" is not only asking about where you live, but is a verbal handshake. It's saying, "Tell me something about yourself 38. Just because you were invited to “ stop by anytime” don’t- it wasn’t a real invitation that was meant for you to drop by. You must call! 39. if you hear a Southern woman say "Aw, hell no!", run! 40. weekends are lubricated with copious amounts of beer and mud 41. if you hear someone say "watch this ya'll" RUN 42. DO NOT insult a southern football team unless youre trying to start a fight 43. Don't be surprised or offended if a server calls you "sugar, "honey" or "darlin'", terms of endearment among strangers are much more common down there, especially in the smaller cities and towns. It doesn't mean the waitstaff is hitting on you. 44. manners and showing respect are ingrained into us from birth. use manners and show respect to others or there could be consequences. 45. dont be surprised at the amout of camo, guns/hunting, and churches you will see. 46. also dont be surprised if you see someone driving around with a deer strapped to their truck hood or hanging out of the truck bed 47. Absolutely DON’T let children call adults by their first name. DON’T: Hi Mark! DO: Hi Mr. Mark! 48. don’t just stay in the big cities, some of the most charming places, people, and food are not going to be found in the big cities. Stop by some rural gas station/restaurants and visit a few small town downtowns. 49. if your child (anyone under 18) disrespects an elderly person, a southerner nearby may smack them. (the older the harder) 50. The Southern accent isn’t just one accent. It’s hundreds of different accents that are different from place to place. 51. if people are nice we might tell them our secrets of where to go to the beach and the best restaurants, kindness and manners go a LONG way in the south! Please use your manners when your driving too! 52. driving directions never include road signs. they WILL however include 'the red barn, the big oak etc." 53. Charlie Daniels does NOT play a violin 54. Hank Williams Jr. is royalty in the south 55. to californians: we have bugs you have never even heard of, so dont freak out too much if you come here. we're not being invaded by aliens. (my gf is from cali. and confirms this one) 56. dont even think of leaving a party until the bonfire has burned down 57. we are all well armed down here. most of us have constitutional carry and will protect our folks 58. being hugged by a perfect stranger you just met in the grocery line, who will remember you and talk to you every time they see you from this moment forward, until the end of time. 59. evasive compliments: "well, that's certainly an outfit!" or "I could never wear that! my goodness!" are polite ways of saying your outfit looks like crap but they're too polite to say it looks god awful. 60. saying things like "God awful", "lord willing and the creek don't rise" (which means you'll do your best to do something you said you would do,) "I'll pray for y'all" whenever misfortunes are relayed, and my personal favorite "stop showing your ass" when you're being an ass. 61. we are not anything-phobic except asshole-phobic and we will give you "the stare" when you are one. 62. TAKE THE DAMN GLASS OF TEA. you don't have to drink it, but you do have to accept it. this is a highly symbolic ceremonial exchange of hospitality in our culture, same as it is in many parts of Asia. 63. if you don't know all the words to "Jambalaya", don't worry, we'll teach you.

We did that. About the Bulldogs stadium, I am the man to give you details.I actually live in Athens, Ga and yes, game day is a huge deal! My house was not even a full mile from Sanford stadium. I could hear the cheers and music from my porch! Sanford stadium can, at capacity, hold at least 90,000 people! The only issue I have with it, is traffic. I lived in a community, and the parking lot was leased out on game day, so I learned that if you plan on going shopping or have some friends you want to see, take care of it the day before. Parking even at your own home can be a nightmare that close to the stadium. With all that said, *GO DAWGS!!!!*

Here in Florida, we get 10 months of summer, 1.5 months of fall and maybe 2 weeks of fall 2.0, but, in the winter (and I use that word loosely) 40 degrees here feels as cold as 10 degrees in Boston or New York due to the humidity factor. Birmingham, Alabama here! Yes, a very British city name for a southern region. But we pronounce it slightly different. This video is actually a fair assessment of the South. One VERY important thing for you to know: Southern Iced Tea is not hot tea with ice. The blend of the tea is specific to have an enjoyable flavor when cold. While it may make little sense to a Brit, The temperature in the general South can and will reach 39-C40C quite regularly. Often times staying above 39C midday for weeks on end. And the humidity can stay in 85% range during that level of heat. Hot tea is not the option you want. Please try the tea and the food before you judge. It is more than just cultural. And a common issue I have with my British friends, do not "bleh" at our white gravy. It is white for a reason, not by accident or improper preparation. I promise that, if you like it or not, you'll develop a respect for the cuisine. And cuisine is the proper term for the food. Even Chef Gordon Ramsey has stated that the South has perfected breakfast like no one else in the world.

My beloved Georgia Bulldogs' stadium (Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA) holds just under 93,000. At one point it was the 5th or 6th largest in the country. Since then Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M have added on to their stadiums and all passed Sanford Stadium and the 100,000 seat mark. There have been talks of Georgia completing it's 4th level (it only goes along the East side of the field now) which would push it beyond the 100,000 mark, but no one knows if that will ever actually happen or not.

I'm am from Oklahoma USA. We aren't really considered part of the south but we have some similarities. Manners are a must here as well. We are generally a polite, good natured bunch. We may have a slight accent as well. Some of my favorite Oklahoma foods are Chicken and dumplings, biscuits and gravy with hash, a ham steak and eggs. Steak and eggs for breakfast with fried potatoes, bacon(salted pork)and a big ole stack of pan cakes! We love our homemade Chili. We cook pigs on spits in pits. We drink pop (soda), sweet ice tea, fresh lemonade, cold beer, and yes we too have the shine (moonshine). We eat buttermilk and Corn bread, or beans with a ham butt and sweet corn bread. A few desserts are Deep dish Pumpkin pie, Apple pie, fruit and berrie cobblers, Pecan pie, Cake of all kinds, banana pudding and custard pie. 😁

1. My grandmother told me in the 1950s not to play with the Spanish moss; yes, filled with mites! 2. Dukes Mayo is #1. I send it to California for my son to make my not-very-southern potato salad, but Dukes makes it the best! 3. One of the best eating experiences is a pulled pork b-que sandwich with hot sauce and coleslaw on a nice bun! Don't let the coleslaw put you off. It's the bomb!!!! 4. Best breakfast in the world, even at 2 a.m., is scrambled or fried eggs with grits, hash browned potatoes, bacon, biscuits and gravy. It's a lot, but man of man!!!! Almost a tie with the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. 5. It's a shopping cart. I lived in North Carolina and Virginia, and rarely hear a buggy. No one cares what you call it. 6. Ugh. Asheville and beer. I grew up there. Go see the mountains surrounding the town. Many are over a mile high. Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway up to Mount Mitchell, and stop at Craggy Gardens, rhododendron laurel thickets and incredible views. Drive the other direction to Pisgah and pick huckleberries at Graveyard Fields, then drive down towards Brevard for some icy swimming at Sliding Rock. Those are just two great and free adventures!

Not always an insult, depends on the context. Example: Doing something extremely nice and very much appreciated out of the blue for someone, and their (usually older female) response is "Oh, bless your heart." Your passion for football is the same as our passion for football, which you call soccer, but normally we all meet in the pub before the game to have a pint or two or a whisky if its freezing cold lol. Tea for me is hot black tea (in bags) with sugar and milk. We drink as a nation 165 million cups every day ! Also in winter tea with a shot of Whisky -- WOW. We have a ton of Californians that have moved out here recently, and all over our county and city on line groups they're complaining or even just asking about how to handle the bugs. They're like; "Are the mosquitoes just really really bad this year?" "Omg, my dog/kid/husband/wife/friend has a tick on them how do I get it off?" "Should I go to the doctor about this tick bite?" "Is this spider poisonous?" "Are these snakes venomous?" I guess I never paid attention when I was visiting on the west coast, but it seems like there's no bugs out there! We live in a rain forest, we have plenty of bugs, and a lot of them bite. Gotta suck up the smell of big spray, and just use it around here, or suffer the never ending itches! 🦟🕷🪳🪲🐝🐜🐊🐍🐢

Our famous emphasis on manners is carried over from the hay-days of the southern gentility, which in turn has it's roots in the European concept of nobility, especially from France and England. "Sir" and "Ma'am" are tragically frowned upon by young parents nowadays, but for those that don't teach it, it would be lipstick on a pig anyway. Those poor children will still grow up common, regardless.
