These may be the "top 10 Christmas towns", but almost every little town decorates a bunch for Christmas. My town puts lights on a giant pine tree in the middle of town, hang lighted wreaths from street lights, tinsel/garland wrapped around the rails of a bridge in the middle of town, and place other decorations/lights all over. But the impressive thing is what the HOMES look like. People go all out. There are houses that started putting their decorations up a few weeks ago and they draw a huge crowd (they even have lights that sync to music and there's a station it's synced to, so you put it on your car radio and the music you hear is synced with the lights). There are tons and tons of houses that put lights up and driving home at night is absolutely magical.

Eggnog is traditional holiday drink dating back hundreds of years, eggnog is made with eggs (hence the name), milk, cream, spices like nutmeg and vanilla, and fortified with rum, whisky, and/or brandy. RECIPE: 6 large egg yolks 3/4 cup sugar 2 cups milk 2 whole cloves Pinch cinnamon 1 cup heavy cream 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (lightly packed) 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 tablespoons bourbon, or to taste 2 tablespoons rum, or to taste 4 egg whites, optional DIRECTIONS: Beat egg yolks, then add sugar: In a large bowl, use a whisk or an electric mixer to beat egg yolks until they become somewhat lighter in color. Slowly add the sugar, beating after each addition. Beat at high speed or whisk until fluffy. Heat milk with cinnamon and cloves: Combine the milk, cloves, and cinnamon in a thick-bottomed saucepan. Slowly heat on medium heat until the milk mixture is steamy hot, but not boiling. Temper the eggs: Add the eggs by slowly adding half of the hot milk mixture into the eggs, whisking constantly while you add the hot mixture. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan. Cook until eggnog thickens: Cook the eggnog on medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the mixture begins to thicken slightly, and coats the back of the spoon. It helps to have a candy thermometer, but not necessary; if you have one, cook until the mixture reaches 160°F. Do not allow the mixture to boil, or it will curdle. (If the mixture does curdle you may be able to save it by running it through a blender.) Remove from heat and stir in the cream. Strain and chill: Strain the mixture through a mesh strainer to remove the cloves and any curdled bits that may have formed. Let chill for 1 hour. SIMPLE TIP! In a hurry to serve your eggnog? Chill it in an ice bath. Stir in vanilla extract, nutmeg, and bourbon and rum: Feel free to omit for kid-friendly eggnog and proceed to chill. If you you want to include egg whites (optional): Beat egg whites with an electric mixer until they reach soft peaks. Add a teaspoon of sugar and continue to beat until they reach stiff peaks. Gently fold into eggnog. Note that because of the salmonella risk from raw eggs, it is recommended that children, elderly, and people with compromised immune systems refrain from eating raw eggs such as the optional whipped egg whites in this recipe, unless you use pasteurized eggs. You can also reheat the combined eggnog and egg white mixture over a double boiler until it reaches 160°F, then remove from heat and let cool, then chill. The mixture will lose some of its fluffiness from the beaten egg whites, but not all, and the eggnog will be much airier than without the egg whites. SIMPLE TIP! Eggnog will keep for several days in the fridge, especially if you've already added liquor (which acts as a preservative).

Liberty Tennessee is so small we only have a post office ," but come Christmas time , oh Lord honey Christmas lights everywhere there's decorations in the yard , and we have Christmas lights on the trees and the bushes. We all start putting up lights right after Thanksgiving. Talk about being beautiful. Our county seat is in a little town called Smithville and all the streets are lined up with different kind of Christmas things. We have our Christmas tree lighting celebration, we have Christmas tree decoration contest to see who can have the prettiest kind of Christmas trees made. All kinds of festivals go on at that time and of course we do have our Christmas parade. I'll make a small video of the whole thing come Christmas time and send it to you so you can see how we celebrate Christmas. During our Christmas parade we have floats that celebrate everything from the fire department, Police department, our military and our veterans, plus floats that celebrate a whole lot more. That's beside the bands, the carolers, the old trucks and cars, and the people that are all on horseback. We all LOVE to celebrate Christmas. I still just enjoy the heck out of watching your reaction to different things whether it's music people or places. It's always a real pleasure watching ya. May God Bless you and sending much LOVE to you and yours. I hope y'all stay safe and healthy honey.❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰

Almost every town, large or small has Christmas lights on the streets and a big tree, usually in a town square. People actually have contests in their neighborhoods or among friends for the biggest, brightest Christmas display. We have ten-foot tall inflatable decorations (Santa, snowmen, reindeer and such). You can have your Christmas themed traditional, modern or even with your favorite characters (the Grinch, Snoopy, the Nightmare Before Christmas are popular) with everything matching. My brother-in-law decorates not only his house, inside and out, but the trees in his yard, his mailbox, two sheds and a dog pen and house, even his boat (which he pulls onto his front lawn and decorates). You can see the glow from 1/2 mile away, lol. Plus, especially in rural areas, someone will have a light festival on some of their property. These are so large you drive through them. It's a great family thing because usually you are charged per car, not per person. There is always at least one school Christmas show which will be held usually during the week before Christmas. And of course a Christmas parade with (in small towns) Santa riding a firetruck or someone's classic car throwing candy to the crowd.

Leavenworth is great year round! Wineries, gifty shops, the Bavarian music at the park, the beer, the mountains, the Christmas store, all of it! In the summer, they put on a production of the Sound of Music at an outdoor theater and Maria literally comes in singing from the woods for the opening number. Pure magic whenever you go! Just be prepared to have so much beer, sausage, pretzels, and wine slushies that you're rolling home!

It has always been my dream to be able to go to Leavenworth, Washington at Christmas. The snow, along with the horse drawn carriage rides, the aroma of hot chocolate in the air, kids sledding down the hill in the center of town, and all the LIGHTS makes it a WINTER WONDERLAND AT CHRISTMAS!! I am born and raised in the desert, so to me, Christmas needs snow and cold to really feel like Christmas. But, I would also prefer to go to a Christmas Eve church service too, after all Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Christ.

I’m pretty sure every village, town, and city in the US decorates for Christmas! The main streets are generally decorated with lights and greenery, and TONS of households decorate with lights, greenery, candles, animatronic characters, and every other relevant decor. Our zoo - the Columbus (Ohio) Zoo and Aquarium - lights up with tens of thousands of lights for “Wildlights.” Buildings that make up the downtown skyline have alternating floors of red and green lights. Churches, schools, offices, shops, bars and restaurants, even grocery stores, have, at the very least, decorated Christmas trees in the lobbies. And families drive around to ooh and ahh at everyone’s effort ☺️ It really is magical!

I live in a little historic town in Florida that decorates for every holiday. For Christmas they decorate all of the trees and electric poles along the main highway which runs through the county. Businesses decorate independently but all decorate. We have a week of events which starts with Santa riding into town on a Shrimp boat to a tree made out of fishing net and buoys. There are 4 main parades for each of the bigger towns each followed by a festival of food, art, and gifts. There is also the water gun parade where a parade of decorated golf carts spray the crowds with water guns because it’s still in the 80F range. Then last they do a boat parade in one of the rivers. For reference we are a coastal county. All of our towns are separated by bridges and consist of 3 rivers, 2 bays, and the Gulf of Mexico. After is the last festival which features a sand sculpture contest. Then our entire county shuts down for 2 days (Christmas eve and Day of) and you are lucky if you can find a gas station open.

i live in a suburb of phoenix, arizona and my town is actually known as being a christmas town. I live about half a mile north of city hall and murphy park which is where glendale glitters is hosted, the surrounding neighborhood called the catlin court historic district has tree lined streets with houses ranging from the 1880s to the 1940s and many of the old houses have been converted into shops, restaurants and even a few museums. all the trees are lit with lights and in total an area of 16 square blocks is lit with 1.6 million lights. typical events include a performance of the nutcracker, live music, food tours and my favorite is glendale glitter and glow, where they land dozens of hot air balloons on the streets at night and use the torches to make the sky glow. it all starts the night of thanksgiving with the mayor lighting the city tree and it lasts until the middle of january. i actually bought my house in this neighborhood because of the old town atmosphere while still being close to the urban center. on my block there are about 40 houses, and of those 30 or so will decorate and pretty much every street is like that in this area.

Rochester, New York area here. Egg nogg is ambrosia, the finest tasting thing in the world. Back in the 50s and 60s the larger department stores would host Breakfast with Santa in the month of December. Our downtown currently does not do a lot for Christmas, but the surrounding towns and suburbs are well decorated. Where I live, we have several neighborhoods that put on their own holiday drive-throughs. 2 or 3 square blocks where every house, tree and shrub are festooned with lights that are coordinated/synchronized through a computer while you can pick up their own low watt radio program playing Christmas songs. Not to mention all the yard blow-up decorations. Some ask for a food donation for the local food bank while others charge admission. (Since you are here in October, they may already have some for sale at Home Depot or Lowes, along with assorted holiday lights) You can start to bring "Christmas" to your town - just start (for you) over decorating the house. Lots of lights and cheer and I'll bet others will start to join in the fun.

@@hollybrooke322 When the infant mortality rate is going up, when you can't keep your babies alive, it's the hardest failure, because you're failing as a species, you can't fail any harder than that. Thats not only an indictment of the economic system but the society in general. Any system that renders half the population poor or low income is a failed system. The people in this country who cannot keep their babies alive are every bit as poor as the destitute in any other country. Our poor are not rich comparatively.

I think everyone with decent enough education (so most of Europe) knows that poverty (and segregation/income inequality) is rampant over there. The rankings show this too, so it's proven by facts. It's sad but yeah, that's what happens when you are conditioned to believe you are the ''best country on earth'', you forget about reality. Especially cringy is when they say they are so free, or democratic. A quick look on those rankings will show you that the US is among the lowest of the western countries. Quite sad, I wish the US would up their game, instead of up their stupidity in spending and city planning.
