He was allowed to line up wherever he wanted on defense and just "Be Troy". It was amazing to watch him pull off plays every week that would be most guys' career highlight. Nobody had ever played like him before, nobody has since, and nobody ever will.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania. Troy played his entire career for Pittsburgh. We were blessed to have him!

God, I miss Troy. I grew up with him as a Steeler, and he's a genuinely good guy who did a lot for Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. I got to meet him twice, one in Pittsburgh and once in American Samoa, and hes just a delightful human...especially when you know he can basically decapitate people on the field and then turn around and donate millions in football equipment to underprivileged schools. Edited to add: you should react to the 60 minutes documentary "Football Island", which he's featured in. It's amazing.

8:40 yeah he played with them his whole life, Pittsburgh in in Pennsylvania, Polamalu was probably the best Steelers player ever, and if not the best hes at least top 3 in my opinion, hes also easily top 3 in his position of all time although some Steelers fans will argue that hes number 2 but im not to sure on that front. The Steelers have has some of the best football teams in NFL history, with the Steel Curtain defense often being regarded as one of if not the best defense of all time and the teams that Polamalu played on being some of the most dominant teams of their times, I mean heck if they could get a good quarterback right now they could be a pretty good team right now, they have a top five defense and a young offense so who knows maybe we gonna get 7 rings soon we would need a miracle to get a decent quarterback right now though, Patrick Mahomes gonna be the Tom Brady of this, Brady kept us from at least 4 super bowl appearances in his career, those being the 2001, 2004, 2016 and 2017 seasons

He is actually Samoan ... and what really makes every one of those plays so insane is that he was a Strong Safety (i.e. the guy who's usually the last one in the back to defend long passes). But yeah, he played his whole career in Pittsburgh, which is in Pennsylvania, not California.

13:21 if he crosses the “line of scrimmage” before the ball is snapped it would be either a “neutral zone infraction” penalty if its between all the offensive linemen or an “offsides” penalty if he’s outside of the linemen huddled up. The fact that you haven’t really seen many defensive player highlights means you probably can’t fully appreciate how much of a once-in-a-generational talent Troy Polamalu actually was. Defensive players all have very specific assignments. They’re either on the outside going up against the wide receivers or their assignment is to be more closer towards the line of scrimmage. This means that they often have high amounts of different types of stats based on the specific positions to play. Cornerbacks and safeties tend to have more “interceptions” and “passes defended”, while linebackers and defensive lineman tend to have more “sacks” and “tackles for losses”. Troy Polamalu had high amounts of all of these stats which was almost unheard of, and is still unheard of since. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime player.

Troy was aggressive but smart and his speed was only tempered with his intuitive intelligence. He was the kind of player with skills that cannot be taught. Real fun to watch. . .

He is of Pacific Islander descent, born in California, his parents are from American Samoa. He played from 2003 to 2014, all with the Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) Steelers. Play begins when the center snaps the ball to the QB.

Polamalu was a 'Strong Safety"; the word “strong” is used because he is assigned to cover the "strong side" of the offense, the side on which the tight end, a typically big, powerful receiver-type player lines up on offensive plays. In 2020, he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame on the first ballot.

Greeting young man, You Sir have clicked on a very special football player! American football of course. Troy is retired now but he was fun to watch. He played with total disregard for himself. He flew thru the air to make tackles. He was a ball hawk. Very good at picking off passes. At one point he did advertisements for Heads & Shoulders, a shampoo company. They insured his hair for one-million dollars!! He LOVED playing football and was really good at it! I have a few suggestions for you ---- Biggest hitters in the NFL and NFL Randy Moss highlights. Moss is from my home state of West Virginia. He was a stud of a ball player!! Enjoy

"Pittsburgh is in California right?" Nope, 4,000+ miles East of there haha but when they play in Cal, it's still considered a home game for the Steelers because more Steeler fans show up than the other teams fans. Pittsburgh is well known for that. That's why and how they got the name "Steeler Nation" Same with the Pittsburgh Penguins Steelers also have more fans flying in from other countries just to watch them than any of the teams in the US

Troy was fast, and Troy was agile. yeah. But what made Troy, troy. Was his ability to read, and know exactly where the play was going to be. That was what made Troy special. A physical play here and there, is nothing to the cerebral plays that Troy made. Every one of these plays shows Troys Atheletics, but why those play happened, is Troy figuring out what the oponents offense was doing. in every one of these clips. Troy was special, because he just knew where it was going, and played on that with anger and vigor.
