9:49 The mascot/nickname of the university's athletic teams is "Seminoles". They are an indigenous tribe, native to the region. The university has the permission of the Seminole tribal council of Florida, to use the name, as well as the likeness of Chief Osceola, portrayed by the student on horseback. The tribe's requirement is that any depiction of Seminole people be dignified, accurate, and authentic. My understanding is that the Seminoles are the only indigenous people never to have signed a treaty with the American government. They therefore consider themselves an unconquered nation. The student who portrays Chief Osceola is required to do considerable study on the man in particular, as well as the Seminole people in general.

With that being said, colleges don't "suck," it's the curriculum, certain professors, and some students that can make it "suck." If you decide on college then your best bet is staying away from the known liberal schools with professors who will shove their agenda down their students throats.

Clemson is in the Middle of Nowhere, on Football Saturday the population of Clemson goes from 18,000 to over 140,000. The Stadium "Death Valley" is a bowl with the bottom down into the ground. The effect is it turns the ENTIRE STADIUM into a giant Speaker... The Stadium holds 82,500.... But there's an average of 30,000 out in the parking lot, watching on tv.. Huge Motorhome park cities evolve every Thursday or Friday as people head to "Tigertown" for the Weekend. I was lucky enough to go to their lineman camp for Centers and Long snappers... It was amazing. The Entrance of Running down the Hill is called, "The Most Exciting 25 Seconds in Sports". GO TIGERS!

Generally, a Football team has up to 54 players. Because there's three different squads for each team. Offense, Defense, and Special Teams (Kickoff). Each squad has 11 players, and then you have back up players, the Special Teams are usually made up of players from both Offensive and Defensive squads. So just from the Offense and Defense squads alone, you need 22 players, and then figure at least one replacement player for each position, so that's 44 players, and then perhaps some players who onky play Special Teams.

You have a college your family supports based your roots just local clubs in the UK and it's tradition to travel to games with your family making a whole experience on game day. Bands play traditional songs the same way supports sing traditional songs. College football is over 100 years old.

In the US, for post-secondary education institutions, we call those that only offer 2-year degrees "colleges" and then those that offer 4-year and graduate degrees "universities," however we just use the word "college" as a catch-all term. Especially when talking about Sports. Saying University Football just doesn't sound right, know what i mean? Now for pre-college schools, we have three different levels for those, and the Grade Levels that are incorporated in each vary from district to district. Just depends on how that district decides to split the students based on population. The first level is Elementary School, which consists of Kindergarten thru either 5th or 6th Grade. The next step is Middle School or Junior High (once again, depending on how many Grades are incorporated into them.) These contain either Grades 6 thru 8, or 7 and 8, or even 7 thru 9. Just depends on the District. But most Districts include the 9th Grade within the next step, and that's High School. High School contains Grades 9 thru 12. Often times referred to as Freshmen (9th), Sophomore (10th), Junior (11th) and Senior (12th). Colleges and Universities also use that naming system, but because many students take less or more time getting those 4 year degrees, it's difficult to classify some students. Like for myself, I took 5 years to get my degree...only because i changed Major 3½ years into my college career. And yeah, i basically cramed about 2, 2½ years worth of classes into 1½ years. Fortunately most didn't have any prerequisite classes to take, so it was pretty easy to take enough classes at once to get the credits to get my degree, (which turned out to be useless later on.) But anyway, American scholastic sports y start as early as the 5th Grade. It's usually basketball for the boys and girls, and volleyball for the girls as well. But these "leagues" are generally just intercollegiate competition. Meaning that the teams only compete against teams from the same district. Which of course may include teams from the same school. In my town, we had three elementary schools when i attended back in the early 80s. It's only two now since the smaller out in the country school shht down. But before those schools were built and opened for the 1980/81 school year, there were 4, maybe 5 old multi-story schools in town. However once you get into Middle School or Junior High, you start playing against teams from other districts, so traveling becomes a thing. Next is of course High School. Generally the Freshman class has their own team. Then the Sophomore class plays in the Junior Varsity (or JV) team, which may include players from the Juniof class, but not ususally. And then for both the Junnior and Senior classes, they participate in the Varsity team. And then here is where it gets a bit more serious. It's these Varsity Teams in High School where talent scouts from colleges go to look to recruit the best players to their college teams. And the same thing happens with the professional leagues using the college sport programs to recruit (or draft) into the professional leagues. So are you seeing the patter here? Basically the next higher up stage uses the programs to recruit from their previous tier of school. That's why I'm kinda shocked...where do all these other countries that dom't have strong College/University sport programs get their players from? Like where does the English Premier Leage get its players from? But putting all that aside, College Sports tend to be more popular because of one, maybe two factors. One, Loyalty. Because schools don't tend to move. They get a ever growing number of alumni that will support their school for years after graduation. Professional teams have a bad habit of moving to different cities whenever their host city won't or can't build them a new stadium when their current one gets too old or outdated. And then the other is regional support. Even if you don't attend a certain school, you may feel some pride in following tyat school's team b e cause you live in the region in which the school represents. Like, for example, i live in Southern Illinois. I went to Southern Illinois University. It's a smaller Division II, maybe even Division III school (it's enrollment has dropped by 50% since i attended in the mid 90s down to 11K students from 22K when i was there). So for Division I sports, I'll support the University of Illinois, which has around 55K students now. My school was a quick 40-mile drive to the West. U of I is a 3 hour drive to the North. We had some friends who were alumni of that school so we went to a couple Illini games back in the 90s. One of which was against Penn State, which turned out to be one of the greatest games ever played, as the lead changed hands several times, and it came down to the wire. But anyway, i hope all that helps to explain the US education system and college sports popularity.

The NCAA requires a minimum of 85 active players but schools can generally carry up to 105.
@Jaems_Scott
@Jaems_Scott Жыл бұрын
Well, actually, the minimum is lower. Teams in the NCAA’s Division I FBS are only allowed 85 scholarship players per year. They are allowed to have more players, but they cannot receive sports-based aid. Some exceed the 105 number to 125. For Division I-AA teams, they received a total of 63 scholarships. Division II teams are allowed a maximum of 36 players under the scholarship. Furthermore, some conferences limit teams to the maximum number of players that can accompany the team in road games. For example, the Big 10 only allows teams to travel with 70 players for conference games.

The reason for the popularity of college football, and college basketball, in the United States, is because both sports began, developed, and became popular nationally at the college level. The professional football and basketball leagues came decades later. Major League Baseball and college football both began during the 1870's.with the Big Ten Conference (oldest major college sports league) founded in 1896. However the NFL's first season wasn't until 1920, and pro football didn't surpass baseball or college football in popularity until the 1960's. Michigan Stadium, home to the University of Michigan Wolverines, has a capacity of 107,601, making it the largest stadium in the U.S. Along with Michigan, there are 7 other schools who's football stadiums hold over 100,000 people: Pennsylvannia State University, Ohio State University, Texas A & M University, University of Tennessee, Louisiana State University, University of Texas and University of Alabama.

Im not sure about college but it’s probably similar. In the NFL 55 players dress for game day. American football teams have a lot of players. Offense and defense are two separate groups of players and with 11 people on the field at a time that’s 22 players right there. Then you have special teams and of course you need back ups.

The top colleges have bigger stadiums & better attendance than some NFL teams. You can have 11 players on the field at any given time, but you have 3 different units. One for offense, one for defense, and one for special teams. Add to that you may have different players on offense or defense for different situations. It's also a very violent sport where injuries are fairly common. American Football allows nearly unlimited substitution.

Big schools might have 80+ boys on football scholarship

There are 85 scholarship players on a team and usually about 15 more players who are not on scholarship walk on‘s. They are called walk-ons. There are so many players, because young players are not physically mature enough to go up against the older ones. By comparison there are 55 players on an NFL team, but only 48 players are allowed to be eligible for a game.

Most if these large schools are Universties. They are made up of multiple colleges. For example, College of Engineering, College of Performing Arts, etc. But in general, people do just say "college". You also asked about the nunber if players. College football teams are much larger than pro teams. The pros are limited to 40 I beleive. College is more as the players leave as they graduate so you need more to be training up and ready to step in each year.

I think the NFL has a larger fanbase but college fanbases are far more rabid. I love both but prefer watching college over NFL.

Many stadiums are over 100,000 seats. College football is so big because there Are only 32NFL teams located in major city's. Many of these college football teams there is no Professional football team For a words of 100 miles so the fans get behind the college teams. College athletes are Amateurs not Professionals

If you ever come over the pond, College Football is way better to see in person because of the atmosphere. NFL is better to watch on TV.

As an American, I feel an odd sense of patriotism watching this, even though I don't care about any of these teams. I was always jealous of British sporting traditions and think it's cool that you made this video.

These are BIG stake games. Please note, NOT all atmospheres are like these in USA college games. I am from Wisconsin and Badger crowds are boring and no way do they enter like this all the time. You are way off on the # who plays in a game. Special teams players are rarely starters on offense or defense so add another 10-11 guys. Plus you forgot about rotational players on O-line/D-line, DBs/LBs, WR/RB backups and long snappers/kickers. 45-50 is far more accurate

Bangso, just for the record college football is by lightyears the most popular sport in the US and they make billions above billions of Dollars with that product. The stadium you ask for with the yellow flags is Michigan and holds around 110 000 peeps and is the biggest in the US. They have at least 10 stadiums with more as 100 000 capacity. Clemson, LSU, Tennessee, Tuscaloosa aka Alabama, Ohio State, Texas A&M etc etc. The dude with the horse is a fake indian and its a shame. They should get a native american on that horse. The stadium is Florida State Seminoles.
