@@eternalselphthey had different roles for their teams. Reed was the best Free Safety of his generation and Polamalu was the best Strong Safety of that same generation. They just have different roles on their teams. Ed wasn’t blowing up plays at the line of scrimmage and Troy generally wasn’t playing CF snagging balls out of the air (though as this video shows the dude had great hands). Apples and oranges, these two.

eD Reed = FS. Troy = SS. Still the two greatest safeties to ever play the game, but Troy, and those two superbowls, were a lot because of him. That decade was all defensive leadership. Without him, going into the next decade, Steelers and Ben Shitlisberger showed they're nothing wtihout that blitzburgh defense

2000’s was the best era for safeties! Troy, Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, Bob Sanders(people forget about him), John lynch, o and my Bears Mike Brown(idc what anybody says, before injury, he was top 3!)

6:39 and 10:03. That was classic Steelers' defense back in our glory days. Harrison wacks the quarterback, Polamalu does the rest. Harrison + Polamalu both won DPOY's. What a duo.

Harrison was solid and the whole defense was great but look what happened every time Troy was injured. Defense was mush. Average at best. Troy made everyone else look good. Did things that will never show up on stat sheets. Changed every play if he was on the field.

Maaaaaaaaannnnnnnn!!!!! I was privileged to see Troy in a time where the NFL was raw and uncut, Imagine just a handful of legendary players like Sean Taylor(RIP) Jason Taylor, Ed Reed, Deion Sanders, and so on and so on but Troy was different. Watching him play was sometimes like watching WWE or WWF wrestling in the terms of the excitement level that he raised the game to. Everything about his persona worked so well for that era, He is one in a million and also the fact he was on a team like the Steelers with a organization run the way that it is also helped foster his career too.

As soon as he saw the ball being thrown downfield, he was upfront, turned around and ran downfield to help, ended up getting the tipped pick. Nobody huskes like that in the NFL anymore. He gave 100% every play. IQ of Einstein on the field. Coaches dream player with no dramas and kept to himself.
