This is one of the classic episodes. The show started to pull away from the British version with the basketball game episode, but this shows the clear break. This starts a run of 2-3 seasons (depending on your opinion) where this show became the phenomenon it would be. There are so many ridiculous episodes coming. Can't wait to see your reactions.

I would agree that seasons 2-3 (and sometimes 4) are absolute peak Office… And yet my favorite storyline is MSPC. I won’t go beyond the abbreviation because spoilers, but such a great story.
@CJ873173 ай бұрын
I'm not really sure where I'd say peak office ends. I include even late season episodes amongst my favorites.
@ComeAlongKay3 ай бұрын
They always talk about the office being based on the British version which is no where near as good but they never speak of the Briton’s office being based on the American movie spinal tap that introduced comedic fake documentaries played very dry and legit. Even the creator of the British said that’s where he got his inspiration from for the core idea of the show.

Fun Fact: actress playing Pam was worried about having to PERFORM drunk ...She had no experience.....BJ/Ryan took her out for 'character study' and by her 4th Cosmopolitan BJ reported that 'When "YOU'RE" drunk you talk real loudly when up close and You stare and nod when I'm talking to APPEAR sober" . So she used that ...and that's what she delivered.

Fun fact, this episode was originally going to be the pilot but the studio wanted them to redo the British pilot, so when they got picked up for a second season, they got a chance to film this one.
@alexspindler13 ай бұрын
That makes sense. It's a well contained episode that doesn't require a lot of knowledge of the characters. I still love the US Office pilot. But this probably would have worked.

This is the episode I always recommend to people that haven’t watched The Office. Michael (while still unaware) shows why he can be loved. Plus, any episode that has a “Bushiest Beaver” award presentation has to be fantastic, right?
@G1NZOU3 ай бұрын
As a fellow Brit, I actually liked when they started to trust their own writing and the actor's contribution to the characters. Too many UK shows like Life on Mars got ruined by the writers trying to emulate the British show too closely while failing to understand the nuance, The Office finds its feet and becomes it's own show when they gain more confidence and develop their own unique plots and characters.

"What's a skillet of cheese?" Chillis has an appetizer that is a hot skillet of cheese and meat and chili and whatever served with chips for dipping. It's their version of a queso dip you would get at a tex-mex restaurant.

The British version of the office was based on the American movie spinal tap which is ironically about British guys played by Americans.

This is the beginning of the shift in the show. The first season Michael is completely unlikeable but this is where they realized Steve Carrell was too likeable. They started to have the cast stick up for Michael in at least one small way and it made the character so much more iconic because he actually was slightly redeemable. Don't get me wrong he's still an ass but this is the start of him getting better.
@JeffKelly033 ай бұрын
There were some solid episodes in season one, but I think it's pretty universally agreed that this is the first episode that wound up being considered a classic for the series. (Diversity Day could be argued for out of season one, but The Dundies is on the short list for many people as being one of the best in the series.)

Hey guys! If you ever feel like seeing something different, SNL did a spoof of The Office called 'Hobbit Office'. It has a number of SNL cast members as well as Martin Freeman, who was in the British (original) version of The Office and was also in The Hobbit. I think you'd really get a kick out of it! Loving your American Office reactions! Keep it up!

Definitely my favorite episode up to this point. This is an all-timer episode. It marks the turn of the show away from the British version and starts the turn of Michael Scott away from David Brent. It shows the other character that you can relate too, and like as people, care about Michael Scott which in turn makes him more likeable. The first season of the character would not have been sustainable in a long running series.
@CharlieRogers503 ай бұрын
Season 2 the writers decided to change Michael's character slightly. He was incredibly unlikable in the first season, however the wrote him as a bit more capable and lovable in this season and from this point on the show really took off in popularity.
