Peter Frampton also used the Talk Box on his most famous live record. Early versions caused some guitarists to chip their teeth on the device.

Joe the legend turns 75 in three weeks. He played this 50 year old song on the Stephen Colbert show a few days ago. The house band were just beaming playing with one of the greats.

His first band was "The James Gang." Then he had a few years as a solo artist, including this song. Then The Eagles came calling. Joe was a star long before he joined The Eagles.

Now you gotta go back to Joe's 'James Gang' Days in the late 60s. When he really made a name for himself before the Eagles. "Funk 49", "The Bomber", "Walk Away"

I haven't heard this in so long! Joe Walsh is a fantastic artist in his own right, as is the rest of the aforementioned band. This was the era of just pure rock as its own genre(outside of pop rock, hard rock, metal, etc.)

Barnstorm played in Oklahoma City in 1973. REO opened and Focus closed the concert. The crowd didn't like Focus and called for Joe! The equipment crates had James Gang still stenciled on them.

The Talk Box is an improvement if an invention in 1939 by the Guitarist Alvino Rey. Rey amplified his banjo in the 1920s. In 1935, Gibson hired him to develop a prototype pickup with engineers at the Lyon & Healy company in Chicago, based on the one he developed for his banjo. The result was used for Gibson's first electric guitar ES-150. The prototype is kept in the Experience Music Project museum in Seattle. In 1939, Rey invented an early version of a "talk box" device that modified the sound of his electric steel guitar to sound like words. For performances of his big band, he created an animated mechanical character he named "Stringy", shaped like a guitar, that "sang" the altered guitar sounds. A later commercial version of the talk box, using a different technology developed by Bob Heil, was made famous by guitarist Peter Frampton. Around 1959 to 1960, Rey collaborated with composer Euel Box of PAMS Productions of Dallas to bring his distinctive pedal steel guitar sounds to radio jingles. This jingle package was part of the new Top Forty radio format and was heard on such innovative radio stations as K-BOX in Dallas and W-FUN Miami. Rey is also credited with inspiring the later, ground-breaking "Sonosational" PAMS Jingles Series 18 in 1961 which featured the talking or singing instrument effects of Rey's "sonovox".

How Does a Talkbox Work? A talkbox works by letting a performer modify an audio signal-typically a guitar sound-by forming words and sounds with his or her mouth. This effect is created by directing the amplified sound of an instrument or effect through a plastic tube into the mouth.

You should have played the intro where Joe shows his great sense of humour by saying ''If I knew I was going to have to sing this for the rest of my life, I probably would have written something different, but too late you're stuck with this one''. The 'backing band is the legendary 'Brooker T and the MG's'. Check out 'Green Onions' by Brooker T and the MG's. Joe's album titles are funny too. For example 'You Bought it, You Name It'.

Thanks for reacting to this one. Joe Walsh is such a talent! He recently reformed The James Gang, the band he was in during the early 1970s, to perform at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts. At the L.A. Taylor Hawkins tribute, there is a video here on KZbin of them performing 'The Bomber.' I suggest checking that out, or the studio version (I do personally prefer watching live performances because I like to watch the artists in action). Another great live performance is Joe with The Eagles, 'In the City'. My favorite live version lately is from a concert they did in June. Joe's guitar solo is just amazing. If you type 'The Eagles (In the city) at Anfield by peter kevan20/6/22 the video will show up.

Seen Mr. Joe Walsh a couple of times, and he has always delivered on stage, a true guitar ace. BTW, whoever "produced" the video, and left Joe's name up for the whole song, is EFFING ANNOYING. We know who he is damnit, let us see him. Thanks guys, obviously NOT your fault.

@Bob Schenkel Hey Bob, thanks for the great comment and errr, we have to hold our hands up and admit it was us that put the name over the video, It was totally blocked and would not allow us to publish it, so we had to put the name over the video or totally blur it out. Sorry about that, it only happens with certain videos and artists, hope it didn't spoil it too much for you. All the best BPR

Too bluesy for me, though I definitely appreciate the talent! This is my dad's cup of tea though, and he probably has this guy somewhere in his vinyl collection. By the by, the real EnderOllie 4 is ALSO watching you. He loves reaction videos to his favourite games, but he also likes PTX, so when he searched for PTX reactions your channel obviously came up seeing as me and my dude share an account. He was particularly impressed with your reaction to 'Love Again', and seeing as he is a 7 year old ASD kid, it's highly likely your view count for that one may rise significantly in the near future 🤣🤣🤣 Also, he wants me to take him to their concert next year. May have to swap my daughter for my son as a companion. Fun times!

@markbucher7609 Hi Mark, we just go all over the place and enjoy the journey and listening to something new everyday, We enjoyed Joe in this and in the Eagles reactions we did, we had to take those down as we received a copyright strike for posting Eagles material, which was a shame, so we are a bit wary on what we upload.
