In America we consider jelly as made with just the juice of the fruit and jam made with the entire fruit and juice. We sell both here. Jelly is usually cheaper than jam.

MREs like this are based on a daily intake of 3-5,000 calories, which is why everything tastes so sweet. This is also why it tastes much better with the tabasco sauce, and why the tiny bottles of tabasco sauce are often used as currency downrange.

@Kellyin-Canada
@Kellyin-Canada Ай бұрын
. I've made jelly both ways: ❤ From the strained fruit's juice and granulated white sugar; ❤ From the fruit juice, little or no sugar, and liquid pectin. It really depends on how much natural pectin is in the variety of fruit, or what the recipe recommends. Besides fruit, I've made and canned Dandelion Jelly using dandelion blossoms. Delicious! It tastes like the honey our local beekeepers sell. 😊

As a Canadian I can tell you that Jam is cooked down fruit with sugar and pectin etc so it is more thick/chuncky as it has the whole fruit in it. Jelly is made from strained fruit juice, sugar and pectin so it is thinner and has no chucks etc in it....if feels like eating a thin jello spread. Jam and Jelly are just different things. Peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches started as a peanut butter and grape jelly recipe...but many people will do peanut butter and jam now instead and strawberry and raspberry are both popular jams to use....peanut butter and honey is also popular.

Replaced the old RP4s (Ration Pack 4) Those contained a lot of single servings of tinned things of brands you would never see on a store shelf. I suspect the RP4s weighed a lot more because of the tins, each one contained a little folding can opener. As I recall there were six menus. I always liked the one with Jambalaya.

I was in the Canadian Army 20+ years ago, and the rations back then were pretty good too. My favourite was always the breakfast one of Ham steak and pineapple, or they brought in in a meatball in herb sauce right before I left, it was pretty excellent too. They don't look like they have changed much since I was in, except they have gotten rid of that awful, dense hunk of chemical laden "bread" and brought in tortillas, which look infinitely better.

@maddoctor99
@maddoctor99 3 ай бұрын
@@GrandHoff I’m English and am as patriotic as the next guy, but what are you basing your “they’re English” comment on? M&Ms were copied from the English Smarties in the 1930s but were copied BY Forrest Mars (an American) and were originally made in their factory in New Jersey, USA. Nowadays they’re made in Mars factories all over the world including two in the States. They were sold in the USA from 1941 but only came to the UK in the 1980s. So they’re not English by virtue of being solely made in England (they’re not) or by being made by an English company (Mars is American, headquartered in Virginia, USA) or by being invented by an English person (they weren’t). BMW produces many of its SUVs in South Carolina but no one is ever going to call BMW an American car brand.

As an American Jelly and Jam are used as they are used as they define separate but related products. Jellys are made with fruit juice, jams are made with pureed /crush fruit. In the Canadian military, these particular rations are known as "IMPs" - Individual Meal Pack. The one in the video is from 2019. From experience, the tortillas are better than the hamburger bun (aka: Pain Burger). Typically we'd load the tortillas with the peanut butter and jam. The Canadian IMPs tend to be quite good for the most part - other nations like to trade stuff for ours when deployed.

This was so fun & a wonderful surprise!! (Who doesn’t love when Stu unexpectedly pops in?!) 😍🤩😍 And can’t wait for the next MRE tasting ~ it definitely seems like the quality has improved over the years by your reactions. (My ex was in the Army & yea… I felt sorry for them cuz I couldn’t 🫢🥴🤐) *ooooohhh! That’s an idea! Find some from way back when & compare! They are supposed to last longer than what our brains think is "safe" ~ and you guys have eaten worse sooooo… you should be "fine".* 🤷🏼‍♀️🤭😅

As an American, we have both jelly AND jam, the difference being Jelly is made using fruit juice, and jam is made using smashed fruit.

Jams and Jelly's are two different things. Jelly is a fruit spread made with just the juice of the fruit, almost like a Jello. Jam is a fruit spread made with the entire fruit, or at least the majority of it, and thus can contain seeds and pulp.

American here-We use jam and jelly. usually jam is when the bips and bobs have been left in the jam and jelly is when it is smooth without anything else. But they are just used interchangeably by a lot of people

Technically, jelly is made using syrup or juice. Jam is made with crushed or otherwise processed fruit.

In the USA, if it’s made with juice & pectin, it’s jelly. If it’s made from fruit, it’s jam or preserves.

6:50 In Canada jam is when the whole fruit, including seeds and pulp, is ground up but not strained. Jelly has been strained and is homogenous.

We say both jam and jelly in the US; They are both fruit preserves and are sometimes used interchangeably, but typically jam has fruit flesh or pulp making it less homogenous and giving it a thicker texture.
