Indeed, and Jay has so much hands-on experience, owning so many of these special cars & having his own garage. For instance Jay describing the fact that for the Bentley already small repairs/maintenance items require the engine to be taken out. Wow! Man hours WERE cheap back then.

A great summary. And I'm sure Donald just mis-spoke when he said the XK engine served Jaguar for nearly 70 years. As it was introduced in 1948 that would have meant it still being used up to 2018. In fact it was replaced by the all-new AJ6 in the early 1980s, although a few XKs continued to be fitted to the limited-production Daimler DS420 Limo up until 1992. Still, 44 years is still a good run.

Ahhhh… the MGC… had one once. Actually… I had moved to NYC and sold it to a guy who had bought it for is daughter, if memory serves me correctly. The car was a blast. I had the two tops, too, and the 4spd with the electric OD. So much fun.

I have an MGC GT and having owned a B for years beforehand, I have to agree with both of them. The MGB is a better sports car due to the weight balance but the C is just a better car overall, much more refined, smoother, better looking, it’s a lovely thing.

According to the data I can find quickly, a 1968 UK-spec MGB around 95bhp. the standard MGC UK-spec around 145bhp. Downton Engineering built modified MGC engines with around 175bhp. Careful choice of tyres and tyre-pressures sharpen up the handling.

Back in the late 60s my cousin bought a 1949 Jaguar with a bad motor for $400 - he restored everything back to factory specs except the motor which was an inline 8 cylinder with a split open block - he installed a Ophinhauser v6 race motor with a 6 spd. transmission - it was incredibly FAST - approx. 180mph was possible - he had it painted Pearl White - last time I heard anything about it was that my cousin brother has it in California

English cars. Yes, those on display are beautiful and if maintained correctly they are wonderful cars. Of course they are, with patience, ability and dinero almost anything is possible. I've owned or worked as a mechanic on several English driving machines, spent several years commercially piloting English aircraft by de Havilland, BAE, AVRO, Vickers, and even serviced English outboard motors! All are unique I will admit, but their electrical, pneumatic - OH God- or attempts at a hydraulic system (s) really leave much to be desired. Even Mercedes's vacuum system in the 123 series was more trouble free. Donald and Jay, thank you for the video and allowing me to get my thoughts off my chest.
