The drum-fed LMG is a Vickers K, a modified aircraft machine gun with a higher rate of fire.

The Officer has a De Lisle suppressed carbine which works for a marksman specialist weapon. Very handy for dealing with sentries when you can can't get hands on. The liberty engine was fitted to the centaur but it lacked the power of the merlin that was fitted to the cromwell. Originally the centaur didn't have an engine, but then they found it sit well on the landing craft.

The Maxim gun is actually one of the longest used guns of all time. It's still used in the Russo-Ukraine war to this day. There's a rather jarring picture of two maxims set up in a dual mount with a red dot sight on them. Given that they have almost no heating issues if supplied with enough water and that they're extremely easy for someone to operate (even alone), they make extremely good defensive weapons to this day.

Just got the commandos from amazon and it is the 25 box with the separate arms and weapons. Also no vickers k, just brens. Since I am planning to do a Canadian army, this set looks like a good one to add to what I have.
@ModellingforAdvantage Жыл бұрын
Not sure if the new kit is compatible with the old old - would be interested to know if you end up buying both.
@talasmanca Жыл бұрын
@@ModellingforAdvantage considering the weapons are attached to arms in the new and separate in the old, at least that much would not be, but the 'holding arms' and the rest looks exactly the same, so bits and packs and beret/helmets likely are. I will very likely be getting the Brit/Canadian army, the new commando box and this one as well. So will report back once that happens. Thinking of using some of the commandos as the Canadian W Commandos, also known I think as beach commandos. And or get some Americans and make some Devils Brigade.

Centaur was the only one to have the howitzer the Cromwell only had the British QF 75mm as armament> There was the Cavalier which had a 6 pounder in place of the 94mm howitzer of the Centaur otherwise both of them was roughly the same in all the other areas. And the stretched 17 pdr Cromwell is known as the original Challenger they basically added an extra road wheel and so was able to make enough space to put it in a lengthen turret and it did see some action after D-day to VE day in NW Europe
@Maiotiger Жыл бұрын
The Biggest difference between the two was the engine the centaur had the liberty engine where the cromwell had the meteor engine the meteor engine being a version of the merlin engine in the spitfire.
@Hedgehog_Prime Жыл бұрын
I think you'll find the Cromwell VI and VIII both mounted the 95mm CS howitzer.

That’ll be that special commando Thompson variant for shooting round corners! 🤣 Does anyone know what the numbers around the turret on the Centaur are for?
@ModellingforAdvantage Жыл бұрын
Which numbers mate?
@julesavery4105 Жыл бұрын
They are to aid artillery style indirect shooting. I think they're also a sort of traditional carry-on from ship turret markings.

Hello, just wondering if you fancied doing something a bit different? I’ve got a British airborne list all built and painted but I want to pretty them up by putting patches and ranks on just wondering if you could help with what goes where historically 😁 cheers Tommy 👍

British marking in WW2 are a total mess for everything except 21st Armygroup - all the info you can find online repeats the same info. Fortunately for you, you are using presumably a '44 force, so you can go with that. Harry over on Fog of War did a great video on the markings if you are interested in that sort of thing.
