Honestly, this is the best paint tutorial for historical wargaming I've ever seen! Fantastic results!

Dear, normaly I do not use any speed paint and I'm never very fan of that technics. By the way, for our club in France Company Of Wargamers, I do have to paint 30 commandos for a Tabletop that we are planning end of September. Due to time and number of Figs to be paint, I tried with out being convinced to follow this painting guide. ....... Result : Very surprising and all goes well. 9 commandos painted allready following this tuto. Painting result is just very good, I will go ahead like that for the 21 commandos left. You could go ahead, easy and result is just very find. Thanks to the Author of this Tuto. Take care and Best Regards. Vlad

Glad to hear it! One thing to remember is that Games Workshop changed the formula for Agrax Earthshade since this tutorial was released, so you may find you get a better result by thinning the shade with some Lahmian Medium or the end result will look darker than you see on screen.
@vladbradea61534 ай бұрын
I used the actual Agrax and that was fine if you do not leave too much excess of it on the fig. Result is good mike if the commando where already on the terrain doing their job. 😊

I definitely need to steal that cardboard priming trick some time. I always get so anxious when it comes to drybrushing!

You should! Thrash the cardboard and you'll have less to worry about when you get near the miniature, you can't go wrong with it.

The officers were issued with the same boots as the men , DMS rubber based soles . Officers boots and traditional British and commonwealth troops had hob nails on the soles , from a tactical perspective, this created a lot of noise especially in gravel. However this was not a problem for rubber based soles . As you can appreciate all of Commando’s equipment and ideas were pioneered by Sir Winston Churchill!

The Boy Scout beret was the same colour after the Baden Powel hat was replaced. It faded to a sort of Lovat Green but I’d have to pick it from a Vallejo colour chart if I can dig one out. Green is one of those colours badly affected by the sun as is some blue dyes and motor vehicle paints.

Right? It looks absolutely shocking going on, but even after just the drybrush and shade it's fairly good. The highlights make it look much more natural - the highly saturated pink dulls nicely under the brown shade.

It's a little hard with some historical stuff to find a perfect match when it comes to Citadel paints, but there's usually a 'close enough.' I am planning at some point to do another guide on these for people coming over to WW2 gaming from GW stuff and likely already have a large number of paints, though.

I want this kit just for the backpacks to use for my Necromunda Orlocks
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
I'm not quite sure how they'd fit against the Orlock bodies, honestly. The packs are open at one side and designed they sit flush with the plastic British bodies, so you'd probably have a little green stuff work to make them fit to the Necromunda figures. No big issue, though!

If all else fails, a couple of coats of English Uniform will look best over something like Skeleton Bone from Army Painter or Citadel's Wraithbone, in my experience. A grey will work but can make the uniform look a lot more green than it ought to be, I find.

How is your primer always so beautiful and smooth
@SonicSledgehammerStudio8 ай бұрын
Warm it gently, and give it a good shake before you use it. I usually tuck the primer can under my arm for 8-10 minutes before using it while I'm preparing other stuff, then go out and shake for thirty seconds or so. I've primed miniatures in near zero temperatures - if it's too *hot* and humid you'll get dusty primer, but in normal circumstances the easiest solution to most priming problems is to just warm it up slightly.

Followed this to the letter but I’m having issues with the skin. My brown rose from Vallejo is definitely a lot more purple than pink!? It’s throwing the skin off quite a lot.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 ай бұрын
Odd. I've never seen it purple before. If it's that much different, just try a different skin base tone. Also bear in mind that since this guide was released, Citadel changed the formulations on their shades; Agrax Earthshade straight from the pot will be WAY dark. Make sure to thin it with some medium rather than using it neat.

Super timing Sonic - just putting a batch of these together, would AP Skeleton Bone spray primer be a suitable alternative to the VA spray?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that'd be my choice if you don't have the Vallejo primer. It'll take a couple of thin passes of English Uniform over the top, but it'll look warmer and a little more natural than doing it over a grey.

@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
It's a bit fiddly, but you do find a knack to it. I tend to find the easiest way to do it is to have a sheet of kitchen towel laid out with all my decals on it quietly soaking on a wee bit of water that doesn't spread everywhere. Keeps things damp until I'm ready to get to each of them in turn!

Hey I just found your content today and I'll say, you have this dialed in! I'm just getting back into the hobby after a 2 year hiatus but I just can't get a camo pattern right. Do you think you could help me with painting Russian Partizan camo? Thank you, have a good one!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
Welcome aboard! :D Camo is all just a series of splotches, after a while - especially at this scale. I'd probably suggest the best place to start would be either the Bad Squiddo video I did with the amoeba patterns on the scouts, or check out the more modern multicam guide for some suggestions. I've done a few camo-related videos recently, so it'll be a little bit before I cycle back around on the subject for now, I'm afraid.

I'd love to see WW2 French. But pay very close attention to the accurate color palette. I have not found a single KZbin channel that paints them accurately. Usually they paint the coats green or just brown. And the leathers are not red enough. Also the dump sacks under the back pack were almost yellow.
