No Ram tank ever saw action. The Ram Kangeroo was a pretty good, well armoured, APC for WWII and was used by the Canadian's and British.

The crashed tiger I've understood for several years to be a reference to an encounter between a US towed AT gun that was unable to be moved because it fired so many rounds it buried itself in the mud deep enough the half track was struggling to get it out. Tiger came around the corner and was so close the gun couldn't depress enough to see the gun crew. The AT crew panicked, fired a shot at point blank causing the driver to panic, soil himself, and back up into a building which collapsed and knocked the tank out.

Nice video. 👍 To me the british hard plastic inf is the best hard plastic infantry BF has done so far. (If you build the motor pln you get so much left over figures because the same sprues makes the inf pln).
@michaelwain31983 күн бұрын
The Challenger is now an option instead of a Firefly, in the Cromwell platoon, in the new compilation book. Something to note about the infantry sprue, it does the Rifle platoon, as well as the Motor platoon and the Rifle platoon is bigger, so you could possibly make up enough extra infantry bases to make a Rifle platoon, so you'd have options... The Sextons are really a replacement for towed 25pdrs and are a couple of pts cheaper than the towed guns. The Cromwell CS (Mk V or VIII) had a 95mm howitzer. Challengers didn't arrive in the early part of the Normandy campaign but were there from July 44, so it is historically correct as an option

Also, the Welsh Guards would have had the same squadron tacsign shapes as the other armoured regiments, but the would've been white. Their regimental Tacsign would've been a white 45 over a green over blue square. For what it's worth, my name is Charles Tricker and I did some research for the original market garden book Hell's Highway alongside Battlefront. You can find me credited there and in the V3 Market Garden book, as well as on the BF website in an article about the grenadier Guards battalions.

I think they updated the Unit Cards for the Desert Rats to be able to field Challengers in Normandy, since they started arriving in July '44 and that's why the Card is in there.

Love it. It's a great value box, well worth the money. The customization makes it all the better, as generally with other starter sets that only let you build things in a rigid one way only manner, so everyone's armies and photos on the socials all look very similar, this is not the case with DMH. Still wading the through the painting, but really enjoying it, even before playing a game...🙌🏻

The activation, reaction and fallback mechanisms in Iron Cross are a really great way to game - I try and shoehorn these into pretty much any other rule set I can (Battlegroup being one). Also, removes the need for 'overwatch'. Further, you can 'game' with d4, d6, d8 etc. activation dice with regard to troop quality. As you can tell, I';m a fan [although addition of 7 days rules, spotting etc. also helps]. Cheers

The Panzer Lehr took part in the occupation of Hungary, prior to Normandy, I believe to prevent Hungary surrendering. It was, as far as I know, the only Panzer Division to have all it's Panzer Grenadier battalions mounted in half tracks, the others as you say, relied mostly on trucks. I was quite pleased when I found out that there's 9 halftracks in the box and not the 8, that the box says there is. I think they forgot the HQ halftrack. The Nebelwerfer sprue is the same as the PaK36 37mm gun, in which you can do the normal 37mm barrel or the one with Steilgranate. The other gun barrels are acutally Soviet 45mm guns! I know as I've got some of those too. I've also noticed you get a lot more infantry models then you need. You can make a full 7 team Grenadier platoon with one of the main Grenadier sprues, plus 3 Panzerschrek/HQ sprues and you'll even have enough left over to make your formation HQ, not to mention the 10 PL metal figures. They used to do a Flakpanzer 38T in the previous editions of FoW, it's a shame they didn't bring them back for this D-day revival. The AA halftracks are handy for shooting at light vehicles and they give you another platoon, in your formation, making it a little harder to break, you could use them to help defend objectives. I think it's not a bad box for anyone, wanting to start a late war Panzer Grenadier army. Buy some of the halftrack armoured mortars and stummels and you've got a great army. I woud prefer Wespes to Nebelwerfers, as I think SP artillery is more in keeping with the army theme. Going back to the previous version of FoW, there was a proper Panzer Lehr army list in the D-Day book and they hade a 'radio controlled' company, which you could use early King Tigers or Stugs, with the Bogrward demolition vehicles. That would have been interesting to bring back now.

Nice video. If I remember correctly the spoked wheels on the Nebelwerfer sprue is fpr the soviet 47mm AT gun. This can also build from it using the longest gun. The resin Sd.Kfz. 10/4 looks great because it is a (relativly) new sculpt I guess, released when V4 started. I have some 10/4s back from the V3 days. It had no driver moulded in, the side panels were seperate metal pieces and the gun was a multi piece metal. This one looks so much better, especialy the plastic gun.
@ModellingforAdvantage16 күн бұрын
Yeah, plastic guns are a cast improvement - they are straight and stay that way...
