I dont know if you already know this but Here's an insight on the album: Cardigan, Betty & August(A, B, C you see what she did there? Yup her mind >>>>) is about a fictional teenage love triangle of three teens Betty, James and some girl. August is other girl's POV where she talks about sleeping with james but she knew james was never hers. Betty is James POV where he talks about regretting the summer fling with that other girl while he was with betty. Betty got to know about his affair from Inez who's a gossipy girl. Cardigan is Betty's POV where he reflects about her relationship with James and how she knew it was just a summer thrill and he would come back to her. No one knows if they got back tho. The Last Great American dynasty is a real life story about Rebekah harness who was the owner of Taylor's holiday home in rhode Island. The song also describes the sexist mentality of the society how everyone would like to blame women for their own convenience. For eg rebekah was blamed for her husband's death even though it had nothing to do with her. Similarly how people blamed taylor for ruining a DJ's life when she was just standing up for herself. Seven is a story about Taylor's childhood friend and the times she spent with her. Invisible string and peace are probably dedicated to Joe alwyn. Hoax is dedicated to her BMR & scooter. Some of the lyrics in some songs also indicate her fears regarding relationships. Every song in itself describes a story like some folk tale. ALSO clowns to West in peace is a shade on Kimye west😂 OVERALL IT'S A MASTERPIECE😭❤

@jloubelle4 жыл бұрын
I’m also convinced Mad Woman is about Kimye with a side of Scooter and My Tears Ricochet is written to Scott Borchetta. I also think the teen love triangle extends beyond those 3 songs ... chase two girls, lose the 1 ... the 1 could be written from Betty’s POV. And Illicit Affairs I think is written from the POV of the August girl when she is older and has fallen into the sad habit of being the other woman after James used her the way he did and made her feel unworthy of being the 1 like Betty was. James put on Betty’s old cardigan self and made her his favorite while he crumpled up the August girl and left her under the bed.

What she did here was something so extraordinary. Getting Aaron Dessner from The National to co-write most of these songs and allowing him to produce her definitely gives her a whole new air, but I feel this here is the real Taylor. No pressure. No suits telling her what to do. I will say, if you get the chance listen to the band, “The National” and you will hear the same song structure and production. It just works so well with her songs and voice. Great reaction video. Thanks for posting

Fun facts: - Track 1 is called The 1, track seven is called Seven, and track eight is called August (the eighth month) - Cardigan, Betty, and August are a love triangle (Cardigan is from Betty's point of view, Betty is from James' point of view, August is from the other girl's point of view) - Rebekah Harkness was a real American socialite, and Taylor actually owns her house in Rhode Island (called Holiday House) - There are fan theories that William Bowery could be Joe Alwyn, or even Harry Styles (though the latter has far less evidence) - Invisible String mentions working in a yogurt shop at sixteen; Joe actually worked at a frozen yogurt store as a teenager - The first part of Epiphany is about her grandfather, Dean, whose picture was in the Cardigan music video - There are theories that 'robbers to the east' refers to Scooter Braun

Last Great American Dynasty is so underrated. One of my faves on the album. Peak storytelling with twist.
@Tal_reputation4 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to give you more insight and info into the album cause I think it gives the album even more meaning: Cardigan, August and Betty are the 3 songs that tell the story of a teenage love triangle of characters she made up. James, Betty and another girl. each song is told from the prospective of each character. Cardigan is from the prospective of Betty. August is from the prospective of the girl James cheated on Betty with and the song Betty is from James's prospective. and in those 3 songs there are parallels to each other in the lyrics and meaning. like in Cardigan Betty says that James is immature/insecure and in the song Betty James mentions it. just a quick example. so Taylor made up all that and played around with these ideas. The Last Great American Dynasty is about the former home owners of Taylor's Rhode Island house. socialite Rebekah Harkness Rebekah married Bill, a rich man who owns a oil company. Bill had a heart attack and died and the neighbors blamed her, the town never liked her anyway cause she was a "middle class divorceé". after the incident she never went to her Rhode Island house again. she started to travel with some "friends" living a lush life, she was even friends with Salvador Dalí. the holiday house was 50 years empty until Taylor bought it. and that's the story that Taylor tells in this song. so it's all a true story about Rebekah.

Taylor's grandmother was an opera singer. I don't like opera but I could see this album adapted to the stage as a modern opera for today's youth (and some of us seniors too).

Now imagine "Epiphany" being performed by a choir and an orchestra in a holy space like a cathedral.......Its her best single track in a while.... Its so stark and simple. It reminds of "Ronan" which is high praise indeed...

Jokes aside, thank you for this amazing reaction, I really really enjoyed it!! I love how you’re trying to elaborate and explain the things taylor does and also love how you’re appreciating the lyrics although you’re not a ballad type a guy like you said :) I absolutely enjoyed this!! 💛💛 The British accent though haha ❤️

Fyi "you gotta friend in me" in Peace is a nod to one of Taylor's favourite singers James Taylor (she mentions him by name in Begin Again (Red), and after whom she was named by her parents.

this album is like the most wonderful puzzle ever. each piece is beautiful on its on, but once you manage to fit them together you come to appreciate how those pieces fit together so seamlessly

Agreed. This is such a complex album. The more you listen, the farther you fall down the magical rabbit hole of imagination and interpretation. Love the threads from song to song like cobblestones and Wendy and Peter and pirates......
