Appreciate Tamiya making high quality kits of these smaller vehicles. Helps people enjoy the hobby without overly taxing the shelf space.

I've never seen this kit before. I will have to look into this kit soon, I think. I really like some of these smaller vehicles. They are fun to build and don't take much room on the display shelf. I really like the scheme you chose. Very nice.

It may have been a small kit but it certainly made a big impression....great job overall, especially the camo. We can always do better with our builds but as long as you enjoyed it and it's turned out well (which this Tilly certainly has!) then it must be satisfying. Hopefully see some more of your work in the not too distant future.

Awesome video!! Nice to see something different being built other than the usual Tigers, Panthers, Sherman's, P51s, Bismark's, etc. Anyway, I have this same kit stashed away somewhere - may just have to search for it and get it built!! Liked the Dutch camo and that was what I was going to choose as well when I first purchased the kit. However, after seeing this vehicle in the war-time photos at beginning of the video, may have to choose that photo that appears to have been taken on Malta - always thought that the Malta camo looked neat on British equipment. Since I am not much of a stickler on "historical" accuracy concerning decals, I'll figure something out (I like to mix my decals, especially IF something from one set looks neat).
@ModelNerd3 жыл бұрын
Cheers James. I completely agree with you - if I'm building something like an aircraft and I like the camo scheme from one version but the nose air from another, I whack them on together :) That Malta scheme is great too - I always liked how effectively it breaks up the outline of a vehicle.

Nice build of a rather obscure subject that to me is just asking to be part of a diorama. I'm a little surprised at the openable doors- really "opens" options for display. Besides, I'm a sucker for what used to be called "suicide doors". I also appreciate the undercarriage and engine detail. I've done more than one wreck simulation vignette, and having to scratchbuild all that detail can be a pain, usually meaning trying to make it look mangled as an excuse. It's either that or harvest parts as close as one can get from a vaguely similar donor kit.
@ModelNerd3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mark. I never knew that is what those doors were called!
@peterc22483 жыл бұрын
Good afternoon, nice video. As a new(ish) modeller, can I ask why you choose to assemble the kit and then paint individual parts rather painting before assembly please? Is it just personal choice or is there a reason. Thanks in advance :-)
@ModelNerd3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Richard. To answer your question, it depends. I normally assemble all pieces that are painted the same colour before painting. I find this is better because painted surfaces need sanding before gluing, and too much using glue can cause it to run out and damage the paint. So building large subassemblies works well. However if the areas are difficult to access (e.g. interiors, cockpits) or the schemes are very complex (e.g. some F1 cars) I might paint parts before assembly.
@teamfishbikeclub41603 жыл бұрын
Id say it was personal choice. For example, myself, i paint and weather many sub assemblies (tools, personal pouches, guns) off the model, then install. I just prefer being able to concentrate on each aspect of a model. Some build it all and pick out the different colours of the differing gear thereon: not my bag. Maybe yours? Have fun, get that cement going!👍
@pappyjoe19552 ай бұрын
Very nice model you made. May I ask you what is the color you used for the inside of the car ? Green I suppose !!! Thanks a lot.

Thank you. I don't remember the exact shade I used, but it is painted brown (probably the same as the base exterior brown).

Very enjoyable and I just stumbled onto your site, odd because I watch and sub to this/these kinds of content. What year was that vehicle produced? I'm an Afrika Korp nut and love building that location and years of the war.
@ModelNerd3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Clayton. Yes, I'd like to do some more Afrika Korp vehicles too. The Tilly was based on various Austin models, produced from the 1930s I believe. I think the military version was only produced during WW2, but I could be wrong.

hmmmm....not a very good kit this...not up to tamiya standards at all...just completed one of these and not very satisfied.....the construction and some pieces were very flimsy and broke very easily,very fiddly indeed..then not a lot of detail either both inside the vehicle and out...once built the front wheel suspension was very fragile and one snapped, since been fixed...and to top it all both doors don,t fit properly at the bottom?????...yet they are sat on the hinges properly....so there you have it ,not a very good or satisfactory kit from our beloved tamiya this time...can,t wait to tackle the tamiya 1/35th opel blitz!!!..if its anything like this 1/35th silly tilly forget it......cheers.
@ModelNerd2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you had problems with it Malcolm. I don't remember encountering any major issues. That's surprising since it's a fairly recently (2010) kit.
@LeeWilkinson732 жыл бұрын
@@ModelNerd yeah thats what i thought too...a fairly recent kit..and usually tamiya kits improve as we get older...remember the very early kits?..the sas jeep for example...awful...even the jerry cans are wrong!!!.
