Fun Fact: The SAS started using modern binocular night vision in Iraq when they were operating with Delta Force who had night vision and they didn't. Delta guy tried to get the government to sell NVGs to the SAS but it was a drag so they lent the SAS NVGs since they worked together often and could finally buy their own NVGs. This is the reason why the UK started making NVGs.

Royal Marine commandos would fall kinda in the same area as the 75th ranger regiment or Recon force Marines. SF capable but still deploy-able as a large fighting force.

Rangers are special operations and are apart of socom. Special forces is a unit and are special operations. Ppl make the mistake of calling special operations special forces. And I don’t think they are on par with ranger batt.they don’t have anywhere near the same experience. Nor are the commandos rolling up hvts in direct action raids. Ranger batt also has RRC Which is a tier one unit apart of JSOC

@@81hotboy8if you look at the tier list given by General Discharge you'd see that Recon Marines are a tier 3 force whereas the Rangers, as you previously stated, occupy both tier 2 and tier 1 spots.

75RR rarely deploys as a large force. During the GWOT deployments were usually at the platoon level - you rarely needed more than that for the taskings in question. Peer/Near-peer conflicts you could see a Bn deploy as a whole for things like JFE though. As an aside, the Ranger Regiment isn’t a particularly large organization to begin with - even with the addition of RMIB you only have about ~3,500 Rangers; to put things in perspective there are roughly 7,000 Special Forces and about 3,000 SEALs (this number has shrunk somewhat since 2021, when the Navy stood down NSW Groups 3 and 10). Force Recon and RM Commandos are both exemplary war fighting organizations, but they’re not analogous to the 75th. SFSG is closer to the mark.

@@Tom23953 you & @81hotboy8 are the first time I’ve ever actually seen someone describe Ranger Regiment correctly on KZbin lmao. Even though Task force 145 obtained and completed its objectives in Iraq, didn’t mean they were done doing the job…as the video stated they use different names and the missions have changed from their time in Iraq. Safe to say these silent professionals still work on keeping people safe from terrorist from foreign soil to our own back yards, and they do the job because it needs doing! They are not seeking recognition for the action they under take, they do the job because they are patriot to their countries and are brothers in the same fight regardless of what country they hail from.

While I hated the pretenses for invading Iraq, Task Force 145, later Task Force 88, was one of the most successful operations in taking out large terrorist cells. I have no doubt the Task Force is still doing their thing today. JSOC isn’t going to give up that freedom and lethality they acquired during this time.

I would say that for interservice rivalries that this general is a very smart man, my assumption is he beleived it was counterproductive to the goals of what he is building. If this is an international task force, I can understand that perspective as you need to act as one and all be buy in on the plan, no room for rivalries in this situation.

Patton vs Monty in WW2, simply made thinks work better. Two very different leading styles with the same goal.
@troystaunton254

I’ve always believed they should have been a tandem. Monty was marvellous at planning out large scale operation, d’day invasion el alemain as notable examples. Where he seems to fall short is when it starts getting bogged down he has got a lot of wiggle room. Market garden as an example. Patton was an excellent and aggressive commander who showed time and again that he could modify tactical decisions to overcome obstacles and achieve strategic success. My belief would be to use them as Monty plans it and initiates it. Patton takes over once it’s underway properly and drives it forward until the mission is complete or the progress is to difficult and must be resupplied and reorganised. Then Monty starts over.

Your first question, "Wouldn't it be better to send the guys in first instead of the Falcon?"....it's hit or miss....1) It's a helluva lot easier to try and identify someone not actively trying to kill while at the same time disposing of a HVT that is actively killing your friends and 2) the morale boost was SOO needed at that tiime that just knowing aboout it was enough to take all everyone in theater that much further It's 50-50 either way you look at it. I maintain a rough "guestimate" of just how good any given special forces outfit it. It hinges on one question, "How often do you see them on the news?" The less oftern the more capable. So a regiment no one ever heard of being out thier doing their job, the fact you never heard of me is, ... significant.

Regarding rivalry, I think rivalry that makes you want to push yourself to be better than the other guy is good. Where you run into trouble is when you're more concerned with who gets the glory or whose "jurisdiction" something is. Nothing can come in the way of the mission.

@WarGasm0824
@WarGasm0824 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, they typically do with the US Marines kind of what the British do with their Marines, it wasn’t until 2006 that the US Marines officially joined SOCOM with an element of their own called MARSOC but the marines typically had a special operations unit since the early days of Vietnam called Recon, and with Recon you had your division Recon which was more focused on Reconnaissance and surveillance, and then you Force Reconnaissance elements that were more focused on Hostage Rescue, Direct Actions, and Visit Board Search and Seizure VBSS operations. Nowadays, you just see division recon who still does a little bit of Force work, however most of all of the missions that force recon used to do is now a mission of the MARINES CORPS SPECIAL OPERATIONS BATTALION MSOB or better known as MARSOC. When Marines deploy, just their specific grunt infantry units have special missions that make them special operations capable. We have missions like TRAP (Tactical Recovery of Aircraft And Pilot), we have various raid packages that involve combat rubber raid craft, we also have a mission that we run which involves grunt forces supporting recon on what is called the MSPF (Maritime Special Purpose Force) and they do a lot of direct action, MIO and VBSS missions. So while our marines don’t fall under SOCOM we still maintain a lot of special operations capability. So like the British Marines, who do a lot of the same activities I don’t believe there would be really any difference unless all of your marines are jump and or dive qualified. All of our marines do special operations style activities, but the only ones that jump and dive called are our Angelico, Recon, and MASOC Raiders.

The Royal Marines Commandos if placed under US Command would be slotted with US Recon Marine Battalions. so, not under SOCOM. An alternate command would be that they would slot in next to the Rangers as a direct action waterborne commando unit under socom. The US does not currently have a waterborne commando element apart from SEALS. The SEALs work in small teams and do not work in company sized formations. The Royal Marines, like the Rangers CAN do this, but be amphibious. Personally, I think that slotting in with the US Marines makes a lot more sense. The would basically augment the capabilities of the Recon Batts and double the size of the Force Recon element once some of them are airborne, dive, etc qualified.

My earlier comments, I wasn’t infantry or anything like that. Not for lack of trying. Physical injures before joking prevented what signed up for the day I turned 17, had to requalify/convince them I could join. So I ended up working on helicopters, attack and utility types, so the AH-1W and UN-1N and our ops tempos hit insane levels. We deployed every year, for 6-7 months. When deployed we hit all new levels of flight hours and air support, never before seen or recorded, we actually got botched at by the pentagon. For the amount of flight hours in combat. We were exceeding what was recommended as max by 4 times or more a month for our pilots. We also had the highest official deployment rate of any unit, once a year for 6-7 months. Every year. Plus also doing a MEU every other year I top. Then shit in the us all the trading and fleet week in NY. All that. Only two squadrons on the east coast. We also had the longest running and best safety record in the entire us mlitary: along with the highest divorce rate and one of the highest DUI’s rate. We were driven far beyond reasonable always performed professionally. Even if some failed personally. Even if they did. They never let work suffer from it. Good times, also crazy times. Also a reason I don’t like travel. Anymore, I’ve traveled enough to go around the world. A few times over and more and some change…the rest of the world fucking sucks. Been there done that. Lame. Can’t drink. Garbage food so bad you want MRE’s shit pay, stupid hours. Haha. And of if I can get way with working 8 hours, I’m down, usually doesn’t work. But some times not bad and like 8-10 hours…I’ve been awake and working for literal days on end, into 3 days, to get shit done and keep up. I don’t recommend it, and the only things I could get to help was caffeine and nicotine. Some of my younger coworkers these days, civilian world. Are like you don’t want to work more and make more money? My response. More to life than work and making money kid. Every relationship I’ve had since my first serious one, had failed, a large part due to being in the military always gone and stupidly long hours when in the states, unending travel for training .and the couple after I got out. Due to similar situations from work. I’ll be like go home. Nothing important going on you got 9-10 hours in. Nothing we need to get done now. And your on call anyways. So anything goes wrong. You get more time. But I also tell them work isn’t everything. Sure it’s important, for many reasons. It shows what kind of person you are, and can help you get ahead. But work isn’t everything. I suffered a lot on my personal life. But it was a bit different, it was for a true belief. And goal, different than what we do now. One guy really is down for working, which is nice, he’s 20, but I’m like dude, we got nothing. I can come up with something. If you really want. But it’s gonna be a pain to justify. For an extra couple hours. He’s not money hungry. Not the main goal, he legit likes work. I’m more chill these days, I’ll take my 8/9 hours of more isn’t needed. I had my fill of long hours. My record was 89 hours awake, straight…working in multimillion dollar aircraft, in high stakes life and death environment for everyone. Haha. Why I used to be mostly grey at early 20’s. Until I got out and little after, haha. But our new guy, he’s great, can do most things we need with little to no instruction or babysitting at least. But he just wants to work all the time, he went on the road working as a welder for barely over a year, I’m like look, I’m glad you’re your down to work and for long hours, we goer plenty of that, in surges, but now we’re 10 hours a piece and can’t just justify more, today, so go home, haha. And tell him besides you got a great woman with you, who traveled with you for just over a year on road, go home and take care of her. You may not recognize now. But she’s the best thing that ever happened to you, cause she stuck with and traveled with you on the road, she’s the most valuable thing you’ve ever known. Take it from me, who’s lost everyone to work, even when it benefited those who left me, cause I “worked too much” and they never seen me, spent time with me, I worked since I was 11 and worked over 2/3 my life. But I’m like she wants a back or foot rub. Or a fruit salad, normal, minor, everyday things like that. You go home and take of her, get her those things, cause that’ll be the happiest you’ll ever be until you have kids. And it will mean the most, you don’t want a girl like you have to leave you, that sucks. So go home and spend time with her. Do things, movie, talk, watch a show, for for a walk, and whatever. Just like I said take all the major holidays for on call these days. Even if the new guy, who has a relationship or family close by would be on call. I’m like no, I’m switching you. Some are like why? Because I’m senior and say so, and also because you got a family/woman to be with for the holidays, or her family to be with and her. I got no one, making this shop and branch succeed. Is one of the main reasons I’m single again. Just like in the Marines but better paid, haha! And I’m not gonna let you throw away your possible future for work. When I can do it and have no one. lol.

Let me just say, you’d never forget seeing someone burn and beg you for help, as you tried. Not a day goes by when I think of it, that I don’t hate myself for failing. And this time of year, cause when it happened and all about family.

@@Plastikdoomgeezus, I think we need hugs. I stayed an extra day, Mother’s Day weekend, 5 hrs away and when I got home, I walked over to shop bc skidsteer was running and he was working on it. Nope! He miscalculated the pinch point of the arms and his brace board position and was almost cut in half. 7 years ago and I can’t talk about it without crying. Mom moved in with me 2 years after that, I idolize her. My kid took her 4hrs away, she ended up in hospital. I was going up to spend the weekend with her, and called at usual time the day before…..and a-hole sis told me she passed away. I hate myself every moment of every day bc I didn’t go sooner. For Mom and my husband. I know I’m defo nothing special. But you are special every day for taking on the responsibility to serve your country…and at such a high cost. Smart enough to know it too. Yup, I think we need a hug….then we’ll go for a coffee and a smoke.

@@ThundaStrack damn. That’s sucks. I’m sorry, yeah, life can and will be rough, for no reason. At least my experience. And it’s never fun or good when it’s not being a good time.

I never enlisted, so it may be not appropriate for me to post... BUT all that I have read over the past twenty years, ALL I have ever read is that the American Forces have been overly amazed and impressed with the British SAS and SBS troops. Much respect! ❤

When General, then Captain, Stiner had emergency orders to report to SF at Fort Bragg, From Fort JACKSON, when he reported his new Commander said “forget al, that Ranger mentality of kill ‘em all and let God sort them out”. “This is the NEW SPECIAL FORCES.

10:50 I think you'd go straight to the Ranger Regiment or to the Marine Raiders. But you'd have to get your jump wings, at a minimum, if you don't already have them. Just my opinion...lol

RM, 1 Para & Ghurka's would 100% be T2 SF in USA. They are ALWAYS the first OFFICIAL UNITS into any trouble spot in the world (behind SAS/SRR/SBS etc).

I believe the American equivalent to your British Special Reconnaissance Regiment is the US Army's ISA (Special Forces) and the US Army Rangers Regimental Reconnaissance Company. Much like it's British counterpart, they are little talked about but were involved with this task force.

They were on the way. The commander wanted the target dead fast so the F-16s were given the green light. However, I agree sending Task Force Black + Delta or the Navy SEALs would be enough with 75 Ranger support.
