Marcus, a subscriber from the U.K. sent me an original British MRE. I'll try every item and let you know what I think. Includes Pork Casserole, Dessert Bar, Mixed Fruit, British Crackers w/Plum Jam, along with great drinks. It's quite an adventure!

I’ll be honest Scott us Brits stole the heating element idea from the US military. When I served in Iraq in 2003 alongside US forces, I was hugely envious that they didn’t have to use hexamine blocks and a stove!

@christhorpejunction8982 honestly can’t say I’m too surprised. It’s the way the world is going. I remember clearly not long after being in Iraq being reprimanded at work for changing a lightbulb because I hadn’t had the health and safety training that was required 😂

I saw the movie, " A Bridge Too Far", again recently, it's a pretty good WW2 movie, based on Operation Garden Market. It has several big screen stars in it. I read some information about how realistic the movie was, and I believe that several reviewers gave it around a 90% accuracy rating on the situations, and the outcome of the various blunders made by the allies. A 3 hour long movie, that is a real departure from most movies about the battles of WW2. I enjoyed your pictures of the embassy, such a tragic event though. Great video, looks like the military in the UK, eat very well. Thanks for your service, and may God bless.

Market Garden was probably Montgomery's biggest failure in WW II. The logistics were screwed, LZs were missed, soldiers lost their lives BEFORE they even engaged the Nazis, etc.

Um i have to say that a bridge too far is a load of todge it may be based on arnhem but it is highly so far away from the truth and besides the reason the attack failed is because it was betrayed by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands not because of any major fault of the commanders except maybe browning glory boy. read a proper book rather than watching an american financed movie, attenbourough took the money rather than present the truth.

I was also military. I spent 4 years in the Minnesota Army National Guard we were an armor/Tank battalion. I did my basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky. British Ration packs have come a long way from what I remember and usually come with alot more than what this one did. I'm wondering if this was one of the newest ones that are mean't emulate US MRE's. Since Marcus was in the Airborne forces it might be a "lightweight" version, since I don't recall them showing up in bags until maybe 2017-2018. The ones I remember are usually alot bigger, called ORP's (Operational Ration Pack), in a big cardboard box giving you 4000kcal worth of food for 24 hours. Thats usually 3 main meals, numerous snacks, fruit and nuts plus an assortment of drinks.

After eating a British field ration during the Falklands 🇫🇰 war, a Colonel described it as been grey and unappealing. He also added that a bravery medal should be struck for every poor soldier who'd had eaten them. Another wit said they constituted a war crime because they were a cruel and unusual punishment. Nice to see that they have improved.

First of all, I do enjoy your testing of MRE's from round the world. I am Norwegian and I served from 84 to 86 (the last year as UN Peacekeeper in South Lebanon (having Bekaa Valley and Syria just north of us, and Israeli occupied Golani Hills to the east..).. looking at modern Norwegian MRE's is way different from what we had back then. We had mostly dry crackers and something can remind of corne beef with lots of veggies in it.. Take care and keep up with the videos..

I wanted to share a funny story. My cousin has been in the navy as a corpsman for over 7 years now. When he went to join the recruiter told him he couldn't join because he wasn't tall enough. According to the recruiter you have to be at least 6ft1 to join the navy or USCG. That way when your ship starts to sink you can walk right out of the water 😂.

The flag in the thumbnail is upside down, by the way. The Union flag (commonly referred to as the Union jack) has not been symmetric since 1800 after the Kingdom of Ireland got incorporated and is represented in the current iteration with red diagonal stripes from St Patrick's Saltire. The wide white diagonal stripe goes over the top of the thin red stripe in the top left corner, and this pattern is then rotated around each corner in an anticlockwise manner. Thanks for the great content.

It was his first station and ultimately was his demise as he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in his 40's that they tied to Camp LeJeune water. He later served out West, probably chasing my sister. LOL! His name was William (Bill) Neil Phillipson and my sister set up a couple pages on Facebook honoring him. There is even a picture of me holding up a stringer of stripers.. lol Whether or not you served together or not, it is funny to think how many of us cross paths in amazing ways! Great video - and from the UK - the bagged UK MREs seem a little stingy on the goodies. The older MREs in cardboard boxes were a lot more generous. Salt, sugar, fruity biscuits and chocolate bars seem a notable omission. Earlier ones even had spicey sauce, plus matches and water purification tablets. Maybe the self-heating bag negates the need for matches! If you do come across a boxed UK MRE give it a go.

That picture of the US embassy brought back memories of seeing it on I think the BBC when i would have been 14. At that point i thought we (UK) were the only ones who suffered terrorism (naive child) as we still had the IRA who liked blowing things up. Those little fruit smoothie things used to be in the British ORPs too, but for some reason they took them out in I think 2020. I love that you are reviewing a Brit rat, and that you are enjoying a great British tradition of a proper (sort of as instant tea is fine, but..) cup of tea. :) Im so glad you enjoyed the SMR. They're pretty good, mostly. Could use some more variety, or a change of some of the menus, but theyre good for what they're for. Haha i was wondering where the peanut butter or jam went. Great video again. :) Fun fact: I live right next to Northolt Air Base and we have the polish war memorial right on a main road roundabout to mark the sacrifice of the Polish pilots who flew for us during WW2.

I'm proud that both of my grandfather's served in WW2 on both fronts. Both of them had very respectable duties. On my father's side. My Poppa served in one of the units for the Navy who secured Japan on JD day. I'll have to look through pictures to find out which one. My Poppa on my mother's side served in the army on the German front on I'd have to ask my uncle what unit. But his job was one of the many overlooked duties that helped us in the war. He was part of the Army Core of Engineers who helped set up the communications network that eventually lead to the Native Americans fooling the Germans. They were both blessed with long lives as a result and now have true peace with God for helping give everyone freedom. 🙏 Both of them have been role models to me and I love them so much

After REFORGER 1977 I spent 30 days with the Royal Dragoons cross training. The UK was so broke they couldn’t afford fuel, and other necessities. The British soldiers were embarrassed to no end. We ended up supplying rations and fuel for the duration.

I found your channel completely by accident and have been referring to you as "uncle mre". I think I like your style of review more than others cuz there's sometimes a bit of a history lesson in there, as well as how soldiers would actually eat it; most of the other reviewers just review the individual items like they were packaged grocery items and rarely talk about how this would be used in context of field conditions. If they're compared to just the canned foods on the shelfs, of course they'd be "meh". But how it would be used in field conditions gives more context to what is in the package and why some items were way more desirable to a soldier when it looks mundane to us.

@@MeAncient I was wondering if you've ever heard of a "MRE Cookie". Not the ones that MREs comes with, but a cookie that is made from MRE components. I think the ingredients was peanut butter, pudding mix, sugar, and either coca powder or coffee mix. I've heard it called a "ranger cookie" or "soldier cookie" and apparently you make it by mixing those ingredients together and baking it over a fire. Since it mentions an open fire I think it actually predates the idea of an MRE (as if I remember actual MREs always had FRHs) I have seen it repeated on the MRE forums but I've found no mention of it in other reviews or online articles, so I'm wondering if it was actually real or if it's just a prank.

Semper Fi Ancient Marine! 1989-1994 Marine Here and served on one of the last LPH-2 Iwo Jima Main deployments off the coast of Yugoslavia at the time. I love Acea’s (spelling?) gifts to you a USS Iwo Jima Mug… but sorry, it has killed me to not say something for a year or more. He meant well and finding the LPH-2 Iwo Jima (decommissioned 1993) mug is hard if not unattainable to find. But you as well as me never served on the LHD-7 Iwo Jima (commissioned 2001). I know an old Marine like yourself knows this but some youngsters don’t (not calling your grandson?) a youngster but there are others that might watch that don’t know the Navy sometimes reuses name of old War Dog Ships. I did server for a short time on the USS Wasp LHD-1 same class as LHD-7 Iwo Jima but left the Marines before the New Iwo was commissioned. I have enjoyed your video’s and watch Him, you and me grow older…. Keep up the Video’s and if I find a Correct IWO JIMA mug I will send it to you. Semper Fi Marine!

Loved the video and the stories, just one correction it was the Portuguese that brought tea to Europe, and a Portuguese queen that married an English King took 5 a clock tea and sandwiches to England. But in Portugal coffee was always more popular, and tea was associated with nobility, so it never was that popular in the larger population. The only place where tea is naturally grown and harvested in Europe (edited to add "in Europe") is in Portugal, in the Azores Islands.
