I was army. We went through at about the same time. I was a Combat Engineer which requires a lot of upper body strength. We constantly did pushups. We did about the same thing at the mess hall except we had to go through the overhead ladder, and 50 pushups to get in line and yes, until you got your tray you were luvin the guy in front of you and the guy behind you was luvin you. We also had to do 30 pushups and the overhead ladder to get in formation after chow. We had some old C-rats. In training for bivouac, we had Vietnam C-rats. When I got to my unit some of the had Korean era dates. I hated ham and lima beans.

It explains why you see pilfered MREs out of disabled russian vehicles by Ukrainian troops so much, especially in the early days of this war. Must of been a delicacy for them. I have tried one, I was really fond of the canned meats. Something different is always good when you have had every menu of your own MREs for weeks or months on end.

Real Turmat is the Norwegian brand name. Pronounced Ré-ahl (British ah). While it could mean simply real, it means more like hardy or hearty. Turmat is tur and mat stuck together. Tur is cognate with tour and means trekking or travel, and mat means food in Norwegian.

Weird fact: Americans and Norwegians like about the same style of coffee. For that reason, there's no surprise that the brew is similar to what you're used to in the USA. We have some of the best barista houses in the world tho. We take coffee very seriously in Norway lol.

I can see that you're having some problems converting from freedom units to metric: DL: Desi Litres. There's 10 DL in a Liter.

they're good because there are only like 100 of them and are used as a propaganda machine to make other countries THINK the Russian army eats well, when in practice they eat their shirts and whatever they can find in the ditch on the way to their inevitable slaughter in a Ukrainian field.

I served in the Army from 1983-1990. 11H E9 infantry heavy anti armor, TOW weapons crew member, and those first MRE’s were horrible. Nothing like what the soldiers have today. Entrees were, pork and beans with frankfurters, dried pork or beef patties that you had to soak in water before eating. Dried fruit cocktails that you had to reconstitute with water also before eating. The best part of the meal was of course, the crackers and peanut butter and jelly. Love this video, and thanks for reminding me of how far we’ve come in feeding the hard working men and women that serve our country. Salute 🫡

Thank you for your service. Very informative and interesting content. The comparison of two nations field rations that are given to their soldiers is interesting to say the least. Great work, and of course, America has the best. Thank you for sharing this content.

Remember the 'cereal block ' and the block of chocolate? I knew of a digger who was going to throw his chocolate out as it was still brown instead of whitish due to age ! Then there was the fruit salad in menu F from memory that was known to give us food poisoning 😮
