Nutritionally, the Chinese meal is far ahead of the US. The US meal is such high GI carb load that it would not keep hunger at bay. The Chinese focussed more on simple,unprocessed, high protein foods which is by far healthier. I would bet the meat and rice had a fair bit of fat in it as well. Even the pickles are really healthy. To be more descriptive, the carb load in the US meal would spike insulin and lead to hunger all too soon.

Great video - and from the UK - the bagged UK MREs seem a little stingy on the goodies. The older MREs in cardboard boxes were a lot more generous. Salt, sugar, fruity biscuits and chocolate bars seem a notable omission. Earlier ones even had spicey sauce, plus matches and water purification tablets. Maybe the self-heating bag negates the need for matches! If you do come across a boxed UK MRE give it a go.

Good to see the new cheese pizza MRE. Never had that one. Yet. But peanut butter? With pizza? Should have included cheese spread instead. At least they gave crackers to put it on. I would put the peanut butter on the chocolate first strike bar. The cheese spread with jalapenos is just the best. It is fact. I would definitely put the cheese on the pizza. No blueberry cobbler with that pepperoni pizza though. The pizza MREs I've had always had that instead of apples. The spiced apple pieces taste exactly like apple pie filling. I would definitely put the oatmeal cookie in the apples or cobbler, whatever it came with. Also, I have never seen an MRE with both sugar and zero calorie sweetener. That is nice. I would put them both in the coffee, as I find it is never sweet enough. At least it gives extra options. The jalapeno cashews are really nice but I just don't think they give nearly enough of them. You can buy those at grocery stores. Emerald makes jalapeno crackers. A lot of people don't like the vegetable crackers but I like them much more than the regular crackers. They definitely taste just like vegetable thins! A trick you can do with the chocolate drink mixes is to add just a little bit of water and make a chocolate paste, like frosting. It is absolutely delicious! I think it is much better enjoyed like that instead of drunk as a shake. The reason why there is such a small amount of powder with the drink mix is because the long skinny tubes are artificially sweetened, The bigger pouches with a ton of powder is mostly all sugar. Also, the new type 20 Chinese self heating MREs do not have the heating element opened and already around the food anymore. They come separately packed in a plastic foil pouch now. The old style of heaters used to degrade too fast from moisture in the air, so they seal them up now.
