Depends how you make the sausages and the quality of it. None of the mothers made the sausage themselves so it's already going to be not the culinary experience of a lifetime, but also in a lot of cases the mash cancels out the flavour of the sausage, the gravy ties everything nicely up together and maybe some peas or green beans!

Spices have been used for a long time in British food. A lot more than in French food. Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, mace, saffron, bay leaf and black pepper have been used for centuries. What British food is not is hot. There is usually no heat in British food. *Well made* British food is delicious - Shepherd's pie, fish and chips, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, English trifle, jam tarts and yes, even bangers and mash. I can go on.

the more butter you put in the mash the better it gets, it also has to have plenty of white pepper, salt and rich thick caramelised onion gravy. Thick sausages from a proper butcher, slow cooked so they are all sticky golden brown

She's right! I always use evaporated milk and real butter in my mashed potatoes. I make my gravy from scratch. No canned stuff here in Virginia, only southern style! Yummmerz! 🍽️😋 Never had sausage with it though... Gotta try this one day. It seems like it's filling🤗

sweat down sliced onions in chicken fat or butter with salt + pepper until they're pretty much a brown jam (LOW HEAT, may take ~30 mins) add about 1 tbsp flour and stir around for about 3-5 mins, deglaze with scotch whiskey, cook away all the alcohol then add oxo beef stock. mix some dijon mustard with some beef stock until all lumps are gone and then add the mix to the gravy. add worcestershire sauce and thyme. Adjust flavours and cook down/loosen as needed. that easy really

No one can make mash potatoes better than my husband. For the best mash you actually don't need to 'fancy'it up with garlic, paprika ... and who knows what. What you need is simple ingredients but good quality and the right technique. My husbands potatoes have only butter and salt, but they are heavenly and no one would call them bland. Simple foods like mash potatoes are very easy to mess up and unfortunately a lot of people don't know how to make them.

I don't know why they are so mean a childish, putting the dish down before even tasting it! I can understand you will not like everyone's cooking but they are taking it a bit to far. These mum's need to be swapped out.
