The title of this film is a bit misleading. 1) The leading officer at the beginning is Crown Prince Olav, then to be called as Norway’s Chief of Defence, as he arrives back in Norway on 13 May 1945. 2) Even if one doesn'T know Olav's face, it shows a high officer in Norwergian uniform incl. all Norwegian insignia and badges. Which could be mistaken as a British officer. If one doesn't look closely. 3) The same applies to the Guard of Honour of soldiers standing to the attention. These are also Norwegian, easily (well kind of) by their uniform, ensignia, badges etc. 4) The Brits show up later in the film when marhing units are shown (Highlander band etc). 5) If one doesn't have the knowledge, one just needs to compare this film with the info shared on the offical "The Royal House of Norway." See the report and pics there incl. another film which shows Olav greeting his father, King Hakoon, back on Norwegian soil on 7 June 1945.

" Various shots of high ranking British officer arriving in unknown Norwegian harbour, ship behind. He shakes hands with several officers and inspects home resistance fighters and army Guard of Honour". I don't believe that is a British Officer. Rather, it looks like Crown Prince Olav of Norway.

You are absolutely right. 1) The leading office is indeed Crown Prince Olav, then to be called as Norway’s Chief of Defence, as he arrives back in Norway on 13 May 1945. 2) Even if one doesn'r know Olav's face, it shows a high officer in Norwergian uniform incl. all Norwegian insignia and badges. Which could be mistaken as a British officer. If one doesn't look closely. 3) The same apllies to the Guard of Honourhonour of soldiers standing to the attention.

Oh dear, how history can be distorted. There were NO allied forces (apart from the Russians up North) in Norway when Germany surrendered. The Milorg (Gutta på skauen) organization all of a sudden became the heroes of the land. 'Pelle Gruppa' which organized the sinking of the 'Donau' & 5 other ships at Aker Mekaniske Verft, were ignored from history, the sailors in the merchant fleet were robbed for their pay & the money given to the shipowners. Women fraternizing with the Germans had their hair cut, while the black marketers got rich. Norwegian companies working with the Germans using slave labor kept their profits. History is NOT how it is told.

So where is this then? And who are the pipers if not British? This is king Olav V being met by Major General Urquhart (A british officer) and his parachute regiment…you appear to be quite wrong.

@@fod1855 .. I think you should check the dates of the surrender & when King Olav came to Norway. I don't diminish the allied in any sense of the word, but there was not a single allied soldier on Norwegian soil at the date of the surrender (apart from our Russian friends).

@@oddvardmyrnes9040 All they’ve said is 1945, no specific month or date. Germany formally surrendered in Norway on 8th May 1945 , The king here returned on the 13th May 1945 as shown here. This video isn’t misleading at all as far as I can see

@@fod1855 .. Yes. Correct. The Norwegian (I am a Norwegian) resistance story was told (and still is) in such a way that the 'communist' groups were written out of history. 'Pelle gruppa' was active during the whole war. They were targeted by Intelligence agencies, denied work, loans & what have you in the aftermath. Shameful.

@@fod1855 This is obviously Oslo and it's (colonel) Crown Prince Olav that salutes the British (and some Norwegian) troops. Haakon VII was king at the time but he is not in this video.. This film must have been shot on May 13th (1945) and the king returned in June..
