@bobbobertbobberton10736 ай бұрын
@iamx29 Lol, what are you on about. Underfunded implies underequipped. Politically rotten, perverted from top to bottom, you want to cite some sources for that. Britain went through this at the beginning of WW2, it was obscenely underfunded, they had a severe shortage of experienced officers one of the reason Germany whipped Britain at the beginning. Britain still has centuries of knowledge and practice, also we have an overflow of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, from NCO's to CO's. You don't know what you're talking about. Britain can easily bounce back once they commit to funding the military properly which they are planning on doing. People that don't know history jump at headlines. 'The British military is underfunded.' Like this is the first time in history a military has been underfunded and people are acting like its the end of the British military lol. Every military goes through this and through low recruitment even America goes through this from time to time. Its not big news, it would be big news if we were at war and its kind of big news because we might be going to war.

Vietnam was a face saving retreat, however after the battles of Long Tan and FSB's Coral and Balmoral, between Australians, New Zealanders and the North Vietnamese, Ho Chi Min ordered that the men with the long rifles (Australians) be left alone. Phouc Tuy Province, the Australian area of operations remained stable until the Australian Forces were withdrawn at the request of their Government. Granada was a win, you forgot about that one. The first Gulf War was left unfinished. Afghanistan was necessary, but Bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan, even Putin knew that (so did the Pakistan Govt, a supposed ally). Id say the fighting in Afghanistan was probably heavier and more intense than the faulklands maybe not Korea to my shame I know very little about Korea. But yes mate I take your point. Its obviously a very different war to the faulklands though. In 82 you had submarine warfare and the black buck missions thrown into the mix plus it involved the militarys of 2 advanced industrial countries as opposed to fighting a gorilla force such as the taliban. The fighting in afgan was certainly intense though. I suppose I was daft to try compare it with previous conflicts as they all differ wildly.

@jameslifts21963 жыл бұрын
Yes and No. 1 PARA form part of SFSG (Special forces support group) which is a mix of Paras/Marines/RAFReg, they work closely with special forces to support them on operations. The other PARA batallions are classed as elite infantry.
@yugster783 жыл бұрын
They are elite infantry which is not same thing as special forces. Only SAS and SBS are considered special forces. Paras have a rep in British army for being mad men psychopath's with a blood lust.
@ripley46013 жыл бұрын
@@yugster78 Well, there are a lot more than just the SBS, and SAS, including units that don't fall under UKSF but are still SOF. I'm just confused about 1 Para. In America, we don't look at paratroopers the same way. They are still "elite", but it's not really a big deal, and we don't view them as this elite force that is on par with Marines like the British do. Being airborne qualified isn't a big deal hear.

Paras are pretty much the equivalent of US airborne troops. It tends to delve into special forces territory when talking about The Pathfinders

Doesn't seem like they were taking any fire (a lot of heads sticking up over sandbags). Why the general feeling of "panic?"
@DaveSmith-cp5kj3 жыл бұрын
They are taking fire. You don't hide behind your cover otherwise you get suppressed and fixed and lose awareness which allows the enemy to close the distance. You have to continuously fire on enemy positions, to suppress them, and that's what they did. Also keep in mind the distances they are firing at is often very large. It's not very easy to hit a head sized target, so even with their head exposed they have a reasonable degree of safety.
@JBGarrison723 жыл бұрын
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj ok, fair enough, if engagement range is long, then heads up seems legit. I'm just seeing guys standing up fully exposed, not firing and their backs are turned toward the engagement area. They don't seem concerned about hostile fire. I should have been more specific too, it's only the unit leader (who is down the entire time) who seems to be panicky. The soldiers firing seem to be in full control of their situation.
