Love it. When they used to run real trains to the seaside back in the day. I filmed them everyday in July and August through Nottingham and beyond. Before, or after l went to work. There was no overcrowding problems or finding a seat then. Not like now, in the cattle trucks they use today. All two coaches of them. 😢😢👎

Great vid, thanks for sharing. I never managed to ride behind a pair of 20's, that must be an awesome buzz!

Dj Trainspotter in the summer of 1989 I was lucky enough to take the Scarborough Spa Express from York to Scarborough behind a pair of Thornaby's named 20 after the star of that day's run Flying Scotsman came off the track when leaving the turntable. There were lots of disgruntled travellers, some of whom didn't travel back on the train, when they learnt that FS was no able to haul the train back to Scarborough. I enjoyed the journey back even more than the run to York.

Summer Saturdays in the mid 1960's saw most Midlands to Skeggy services worked by Derby type 2 in multiple........single Brush 2's........and very occasionally an English Electric type 3......two trains a day to and from kings Cros had E.E.type 3 haulage.......before going over to brush 4 around 1967. By the end of the 1970's Peaks weere regular performers as we Class 47.....

1980-81 used to have a Deltic to Sleaford on ECML diversions then a pair of these to Skeggy. Heaven.

Any footage also of Deltics at Cleethorpes?
@lewisner4 жыл бұрын
@@annescholey6546 Not footage for me as I wasn't rich enough to own a cine camera but loads of photos. My first one to Cleethorpes was Pinza in 1979 from Grimsby Town.

Can anyone tell me why they used class 20's on this diagram especially the Burton to Skegness as I was always told that their was a big curve (where was this) and that other locos didn't have the route availability, but I remember going on the last class 40 hauled Manchester to Skegness and that has a bigger wheel arrangement and was no tight curve on that route. Was it near Grantham or did the Burton/Derby goe via Lincoln? So to confuse
@royharrison41223 жыл бұрын
There were no restrictions on the RA of Locomotives to Skegness, The Curve is at Firsby and as far as I know has no Restrictions.

@@royharrison4122 thanks for the information, I'm sure you're right as before they used class 20's they used 25's and 31's so I'm sure it was just hearsay. I remember you hat curve being really tight tho you could almost take a photo of them at 180 degrees from the rear coach.

Interesting to see class 20 locomotives on a passenger service. I assume that they could only do it in the summer when no heating power was required?
@royharrison41226 жыл бұрын
That's correct, they only ran in the Summer.
@neildahlgaard-sigsworth38195 жыл бұрын
FP4 Man some of the pilot scheme Class 20 were fitted with a steam pipe so they could in theory operate with a boiler fitted diesel, or a steam locomotive, during the winer months. I've no idea if they ever did, or when this was removed.

I temember taking one of these from Derby to Skeg a couple of times as a small kid. Much comfier than the rubbish they use now
