British Rail in the Early 90's South Wales

Anyone who was train spotting from the 1950's to the 1990's will be familiar with the first location - the footbridge access to Cardiff Canton shed which was a great vantage point to watch passenger and freight traffic West of Cardiff Central station. Malcolm Wrigley captured a number of interesting workings in 1991. The sequence ends with a couple of scenes taken near Tower colliery, Hirwaen.

More tremendous stuff and thanks for today's tea-time entertainment. Superb stuff off the footbridge at Canton but can't help thinking there was some "railwayman's privelidge" going as us mere mortals would get fecked-orff from there. Great that someone was able to record the 60-fest. Also, seeing that smokey 56 leaving light engine reminded me of watching one leave there heading west from the 13th floor of the tall building in the back-ground, engulfed the whole area in smoke, fantastic. Thanks to Mr Wrigley for the excellent filming, not over-doing the zooms and pans makes it a pleasure to watch. Happy memories.

A marvellous film and a great viewpoint over the main line to the west. Visited the station several times in the 80/90s, both from Crewe and later from Llanwrtyd when living there. Wish I had known of this vantage point then! Thanks for editing and sharing - you have a great collection and I enjoy them all.

I don't half miss Mail & Parcels traffic. Not just driving them as I did, but also seeing them, especially at night when stations came alive with Royal Mail activity. Sadly missed and now much needed with the HGV driver shortage, and rail now being much faster and commercially better than road for long bulk haulage!!! RM should be encouraged if not forced back to rail, wholescale, by the government.
