A little scoop on Darius Rucker. Before he started singing country music, he was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish and was very successful in the pop genre. Now he's extremely successful in country! 😀

He made an excellent choice to go "country". I loved Hootie & the Blowfish but they kinda fizzled out with other new artists stealing their thunder (happens in all genres - only a few last for decades). I love his country side too & this song/video is great!😊

The sad part about Darius is he always wanted to be country, but his "handlers" convinced him we'd never accept him. Imagine all the country music he could have been making all these years. Let Her Cry was actually written to be a country song.

Bob Dylan and two co-writers wrote the music to this song back in 1973. It was not finished and was under the name Rock Me Mama and he just shelved it. Somehow it got into the hands of bootleggers and was being played and the named changed to Wagon wheel. It was found by Old Crow Medicine Shows lead singer who wrote the lyrics and put it in their show. Then Darius found it and made it a hit. According to Wikipedia.

I'm just discovering your Channel and I'm absolutely loving it! I grew up listening to country music thanks to my father and his family. Many people have the same reaction you said you did, that when they hear the first few notes they changed the channel. But once they actually give it a fair chance, they get drawn in. Country music has a way of always telling a story whether it is a serious tearjerker or one that makes you laugh. Darius is from a town about 2 hours from where I was born, raised, and still live. He went to the University of South Carolina which is in the town I live in. My brother also went there and was a resident Hall advisor at the time. One of Darius's bandmates lived in my brother's residence hall. They were having a late night practice and my brother received a ton of complaints about the noise. So he went upstairs and told them that they would all need to leave and that they could not practice in the hall anymore. Little did he know how famous they would become.. My brother laughed about that till the day he died. That was always one of his favorite stories to tell and he always wondered if any of the band happened to remember that night. Darius and his bandmates from Hootie and the Blowfish have a very special place in the hearts of South Carolinians. They have never turned their back on us and have given back tremendously to the state. Darius especially has been generous and has done so much for our citizens. He has especially given to programs like the Children's Hospital. We are proud to call him and his bandmates one of our very own! We love his music and we love him! And I am absolutely loving watching your journey of becoming a lover of country music. It's a great journey to take.

This is the second video I've viewed on your channel and I'm hooked. I must admit I teared up a bit watching you. I feel as though I'm watching someone fall in love with country music right before my eyes and it brings back the days when I fell in love with it. I was a heavy metal head banging girl in my youth (and still love that music, as well) that never would have given country music a chance. So when you say that a year ago you wouldn't have either, I get it. Thankfully, a boyfriend came into my life that exposed me to country music. I got rid of the boyfriend and kept the love for the music lol. I'm so glad that something opened you up to experience it and I hope you enjoy the journey. So many different sounds and styles to experience that it can only open you up to even more experiences. BTW, when I hear Darius Rucker sing I feel like standing in the sunshine and twirling but it's okay to just smile too. :-D
