When this sketch was made in 2014 Sweden had just something of a rough awakening with the bad state of our military. On one hand our military commander had openly said that we could only defend against a limited attack for 1 week, after that we would need help. On the other Russia had done a feint air raid on easter 2013 and no Swedish aircraft had been prepared to take off, if I remember correctly Danish fighters had to intercept them instead. And then came the annexation of Crimea and everyone were in panic mode.

well...the easter thing only got blown up in media since the general public got note of it, in reality the russians test our airspace many many times a year, every year....and we always intercept, including that time.

In case of invasion from a enemy force, you as a Swedish citizen are not allowed to surrender. Even if the government tells you to. You fight and keep fighting, no matter what.

In Norway we had a joke in the armed forces... "If war breaks out, don't forget your 'B' Supply pack" .... "It contains a pair of running shoes and a Swedish passport" ... :P

We’ve been slowly building up our defence, but much like a lot of Europe, we cut our military budget quite drastically after the cold war. I remember articles talking about how we wouldn’t be able to hold Stockholm for more than a week, back in the day. Our strategy has always been assymetric in nature, so not holding Stockholm isn’t the end of the world, but it sure lit a fire under our collective asses.

I mean, Putin can have Stockholm, and he could turn our politicians into giblets, wouldn't bother me at all, I'm Scanian, I don't care if the Old Swedes that migrated to the East migrates back to Sweden to get rid of the Silly Swedes that stayed and made Western Sweden into a shithole, meanwhile Eastern Sweden looks Beautiful. And by Eastern Sweden I mean Russia.

@@livedandletdie You do realize that Sweden had for a period the 4th largest air force in the world, and could compete with USSR and USAs air force at the time. And you know the 250k odd islands along the entire Swedish coast, well they are a natural sea landing wall, believe it or not but invading Sweden would be very tough and that's without Sweden even deploying any kind of resistance. And I haven't even mentioned Swedens own anti-air, anti-tank and anti-ship weapons, which BTW are sicking Russian ships and turning tanks in to road decorations in Ukraine as we speak.

SATIRE... That's one way to look at the Swedish Defense Force. Sure we have excellent tech and excellent military, it's just a shame that all of that excellent tech and excellent military is in it's retirement age. Had it not been for Swedish Aeroplane Incorporated. Or SAAB as it's better known as, Sweden wouldn't have any decent military tech at all, like their masterpiece... JAS GRIPEN. But still, there isn't a thing Sweden could do in case of an invasion, Ukraine had at least Europe's second largest military, just after Russia that is, But you don't win a war against Russians, as every old Historian would tell you, you don't win a war against someone that uses human wave tactics, and can continue breeding new soldiers every generation until time's end. So yes, a Swedish Defense is the greatest Satire of them all, as I tell everyone, you better learn Russian before they get here, and prepare a lot of bottles of Stolichnaya and Russiye Standard. Maybe offer them some Kartofel i Doktorskaya or Borscht, Perhaps a few bottles of Kvass or Pivo, a few bags of Semechki, and if you really want to make them happy, make herrring under a fur coat. Or Salat Olivye. The later are especially welcome on Novy God(New Year).
