This is probably Willie's signature song, his biggest radio hit. But never forget, his greatest songwriting hit has to be Crazy that he too recorded, but the Patsy Cline version set the standard.

Elvis released it in 1972. Willie did in 1982. Brenda Lee & Gwen McCrae released it first, in 1972 & it went to #45 on the charts & then everyone started doing it.

No, that pianist is Willie's older sister Bobbie Lee Nelson who has been in his band since the early 70's who just passed away in 2022. She was in the band for 50 years and was still active, releasing an album with Willie and his sons in 2021. She was 91. She was a highly regarded pianist in the industry and was also a vocalist in the band. And, she was gorgeous too.

Hi there. When I saw the title, my thought was after the video, I was going to suggest that you react to Elvis’ version. I guess I don’t need to do that 😊 Although I enjoy Willie’s version, Elvis’s version, in my opinion, is better because of the emotion in his voice. I think a song like this needs that emotion. It's a shame that you picked Willie Nelson's version of this to react to. Elvis did it 1,000 times better, and because of his marital situation, it made the song so much more personal. Do yourself a favor, find the version of Elvis in the recording studio singing this song. If you can't do that version, then find his version with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. For the record, I don't have anything against this version but at the same time, I've never really been a big fan of Nelson.

If you knew anything about Willie's personal life you would know how personal this song was for him. Too bad Elvis never won a Grammy nor was he nominated for his version of the song. His version only topped the Billboard Chart at #16. Willie has been the only one to win a Grammy for the song. The song also won Song of the Year & Best Country Song. He also won Country Music Awards for the song. He also topped the Billboard Chart at #1 & was on the chart for about 26 weeks. Some people may prefer Elvis's version but no one has done more for this song than Willie Nelson.

@@emmef7970 Everyone has their favorite singers, you (seemingly) like Nelson and that's great for you. I certainly won't say anything negative about it. He was a talented songwriter (may still be, I don't know if he still writes or not), but I've just personally never cared for his voice. He comes on the radio, 10 times out of 10, I'm changing the station. That's not meant as an insult to him or his fans, it's just a fact for me. To each their own.
