I saw my first Scorpion cvrt during the Gulf War, I was a Scout with 3/41 Inf 2AD in Hummers, and we were camped out somewhere in the boonies when this little dusty Scorp rolled up to my vehicle. The commander jumped out and asked if we could do some trading. Well, for some odd reason Brits liked the chicken ala king ration we had, the big squad package one, and we were all shocked to see fresh oranges were available and of course tea, and other interesting rations the Rats had with them, so trades were made and everyone had a great day! Sometimes little things like that can be quite a morale booster in an otherwise rough time.

Not and never will be interested in WoT. But I did read about Operation Granby and the Battle of Norfolk. The Challenger tanks had better sights than the reconnaissance vehicles and so Recce Regiments were tasked with protecting the Supply Train. While doing tis they were attacked by an Iraqi T-55 Brigade. The Scorpions, Scimitars and Strikers held off the T-55s destroying several with Swingfire missiles. But the Challengers arrived and took care of the rest of the Brigade. In all the British destroyed 5 Iraqi Brigades with over 300 armoured vehicles.

My husband serving in the SANDF told me times when the Olifant (South African upgraded Centurion) Smashed those T-54 55 like tinker toys. My husband loves the Olifant and the centurion that kicked butt in both Africa and Israel. Interestingly enough my husband is hunting auctions through out South Africa and around the world to get his hands on a Centurion. He was trained to work on them towards the end of his military career.

Good job naming this tank T-54 instead of T-55 since a lot of people can't tell the difference. They think it's fume extractor. Well, it isn't. Turret is different. T-54 has a ventilation cupola at the front of the turret, behind the main gun. It was later on considered as a weak spot in the armor and removed (redesigned turret) and along with some other improvements and was called T-55 then. So, T-54 has that small cupola and T-55 doesn't.

IIRC the issue was proper NBC protection during the rise of the Cold War and expectation of the horrors covering the battlefields of "The Next War"; such as Nerve Gas, Biological Weapons, and irradiated material from ground bursts of nuclear weapons. The T-54 turrets NBC protection was compromised by the ventilation fan effectively being just a hole in the "Sealed" tank, and so was removed on the updated "T-55" turrets. I could be wrong though, but it would explain the large lack of ventilation fans on most AFV's after the 40's/50's.

Scimitars of the 17th/21st were provided depleted uranium round in 1991. They destroyed numerous T55 tanks with them. Just saying, as bouncing off was not an issue.

You corrected yourself on the Scimitar saying it was Sabre. You were right in the beginning. The Sabre had the Scorpion chassis with the Fox (rounded) turret and a co-axial 7.62 Chain Gun. The Scimitar you were next to has a squared off turret and carried a co-axial 7.62 L37 GPMG, hence the small aperture next to the main armament ejection port. Great to see them in action too.

To be fair, when your a grunt or in a lightly armored vehicle; anything with proper armor and/or a big gun becomes "Heavy Armor".
