2:43 Common giant house spider, harmless and very scared of people but creepy. Looking at the palps, that’s a female, meaning she’s likely been spooked from her previous home. Unless she had her babies, she’s very unlikely to bite. Your “daddy long legs” is a cellar spider, likely a long-bodied specifically. And likely a female! As someone who’s had them around as “pets”, they’re incredibly gentle, timid and amazing! If you’re scared of giants, they’ll hunt them. If you’ve got pests - and flies are bad this time of year! - they’ll nab em! And they’re so gentle you can press their fangs to your skin and really force them before they’ll even attempt a bite (harmless!) If you poke them, they wobble mentally in their webs earning them the name “vibrating spiders” as they do this to disorient prey and as a warning. Close look at their face earns them another name “skull spider” as their faces have a pattern that look like a human skull - their own lil sugar skulls 💜 They will avoid you and keep to their corners, the downside is they are VERY messy. One of the messiest spiders, they leave isopod husks (woodlouse shells everywhere - they love woodlouse) and their extremely sticky webs are the biggest cobweb culprits. Leave her be and she’ll keep the pests away. Like any spider, once the pests run out, she’ll likely leave to greener pastures for more prey. Had one named Sandra for 2yrs, two egg sacs, before she passed from age. She didn’t mind me touching her or her slings either ❤ They live roughly 3 years and have 2-3 egg sacs.
