This is actually incredible. American train whistles are ridiculously loud and thunderous but the British whistles sound almost like the calls of birds.

Well the British whistles just sound kind of weak and pathetic. Although, I do definitely love the a4 pacific's whistles. American whistles sound like what their engines sound like, big, mean, lean machines, thousands of pounds of moving steel, not some cherry-eyed songbird. but each to their own I guess.

Not a fan of the higher pitched. Having heard both *at night in the distance* the American whistles evoke a deep erie sense and a hint of nostalgia I don't get with the British whistles. Not to mention the sheer "get the hell out of my way" of the deeper whistles

Actually this A4 was the "Union of South Africa". Spencer would be LNER A4 Pacific "Silver Fox" or "Silver Link" which ran the A4's native Silver Jubilee Route

I have always loved trains, especially British and American trains. Back in 2020, I bought a Spectrum HO scale dcc/sound 4-6-0 and reprogrammed the decoder so that instead of a Nathan 5 chime it has a LNER a4 chime whistle.

It does, as I’m fairly certain that 70000 (the loco responsible for that whistle) was used for the Hogwarts express’s whistle, however not used for the actual engine, 5972 olton hall was used, although 34027 taw valley was considered as an option

Ollie's Branchline actually, America’s steam locomotives are very efficient, take a look at the 844. It can go up to 120mph but can also maintain a stable speed of around 70 pulling around 4 million pounds. You guys may have the faster trains, but ours are stronger. I love British steam, I always will. But just appreciate American steam as well.

TTTE reference? If so, that's my childhood you're talking about it. Sniff! I miss my Thomas so bad, now that Mattel ruined it. Even three year olds who knew CGI TTTE miss pre-AEG Thomas. What about when Thomas accused Gordon of "Playing tank engine?" because he had to pull his train backwards? Btw, TTTE's the only reason I ever believed in tank engines I'm sure. Tank engines never got too popular in my country, but I know Thomas has a real basis, even if he's just a toy/character. I know that basis even, due to my nostalgia. That raging case of nostalgia I got a few months ago took me to the wikia and I found out the characters usually got a real basis.

@@bennickss I would say that most of these whistles sound high pitched and annoying to me. The deep, multi-chime american whistles have a sense of power and authority with their deep rumble that you have to experience in person to fully appreciate. Plus they are much easier on the ears.

@@bennickss You seem confused? Yes. A deep whistle does not hurt your ears. A 6 in chime whistle on 150 psi is much more bearable to listen to than a 2 in whistle on 20 psi. With the deep whistles you just feel the vibrations through your whole body. Short bell, high pitch whistles are what hurt the ears, especially plain bell whistles.
