Nor was there in 1939 when we had to face down the aggressor again. Nor was there an EU when I was based in Germany in the 1980s, as part of NATO. @Scar6262 жыл бұрын
1:00 - Haha! So what narrator said about how it forced them to "reconsider future of heavy weapons"; I did not expect what colonel said afterwards about how the lesson was that it still has a role 🤣. That was not the "highlight" of the Ukraine war up until this point. I guess they have to say that because they have to keep up those tank sales (not even talking about the fact that the Challanger 2 had documents leaked). Maybe everything happening in the east of Europe will finally make the government see the need for a somewhat larger force. I mean we’ve sent 3 out of only 40 odd surface to surface missile launchers to be used by Ukraine, and really I don’t think we can afford to send more than that and I hope we don’t since it’d be a problem otherwise. if it were me (and I’m by no means a financial expert or military soldier at all, tho I do wish I could at some point) I’d want the British army to be at around 120,000 active personal strong with at least 75-80,000 reservists ideally. aside from that, the number of tanks is kinda small, last I checked it was around 200 odd and declining to be around 142 challenger “3” tanks. tbh the government needs to see that it can’t keep having its military capabilities decline, the less soldiers and vehicles we have, the less we’ll be willing to allocate to any war effort not on British soil.

30 tanks are a considerable slice of the dwindling British capability. If we do not start planning for a new MBT manufacturing facility soon. The days of the indigenous tank are over. The shame of the British Army driving around in German designed and built tanks, will have our fore fathers turning in their graves. Not quite as bad if we buy American but it's still a national disgrace. We could do much worse than starting from the existing Challenger concept. Perhaps designed around a fully integrated engine and gearbox power pack, that can be changed in 30 mins under field conditions. Giving a power output permitting several more tons to be added to the basic Dorchester hull when deployed or needed. With F35 type helmets and HUDs for the 3/4 crew. Permitting full 360' coverage with hatches closed. Rather than the days of the MBT being over, I would argue that with the new battled awareness IT available today. Combined with ever improving active protection systems. The Tank has finally come of age as a fully aware and totally integrated linchpin of armed conflict. Manned or unmanned turret, autoloader or not, 120/130/150mm gun is open to discussion.

I think we'd actually be more capable of an op like the Falklands as it didn't involve large numbers and out tech is much advanced.

@@doubletap-z8c If we have a small army with spending the 4th most on Earth what about the 187 countries that spend less? Most are not small islands with good natural defences. We could definitely do Falklands again, better this time we have a better aircraft carrier.

Urban warfare or be it fighting in a built up area in and on the very ground one might have to fight over, that's what you call a good preparation ! something the Russians have shown in Ukraine as seriously lacking those tactical skills !

England, not the uk the other countries have no say and are ignored.

Not at all. The last time Labour was in power it was a Scottish PM. There are Scottish and Welsh tory MPs and the DUP backed up May. Scotland got an independence referendum and chose to stay. On defence the personnel is drawn from across the union and kit it build across the union, like the carriers in Scotland, Ajax in Wales and NLAW in Northern Ireland. How's that just England?
@mysurlytrucker75102 жыл бұрын
@@davidhouseman4328 Scotland was lied to , what was it not only stay and be a part of the uk stay and be a major part, then brexit comes along, now whether you like nicola or not most Scottish voted the snp way, liber was involved and invited the snp not even asked, Scotland is trying to get another section 30, the english government is blocking it why because they know they nearly lost the last one so are determined to keep there claws in Scotland by saying no, we'll they can't keep saying no for ever we will not have our rights trampled by there dismissive no,as to army navy airforce we have no say as usual its the english government none of the other countries have any say at all.
