@@punishedgloyperstormtroope8098 both sets of my grandparents lost their freedom . You were not allowed to go out after curfew . There were no radios . You were not allowed on the beaches and food was rationed

@@andymargison8884 it’s called a war obviously there will be curfews and obviously radios were banned so you couldn’t listen to British propaganda. People on the Channel Islands weren’t killed or oppressed, they were treated better than expected in a world war. Britain is less free today than under German occupation. Nobody on the Channel Islands were arrested by Germans for saying there are only 2 genders. Anyways Britain was the one who started the war and declared war on Germany so they can’t complain about occupation of the Channel Islands

As I recall the aftermath of the liberation figured in the horror movie "The Others" with Nicole Kidman. Good movie IMHO.

The actor Jon Nettles who played in 'Bergerac' detective series in the 1980s and 90s revealed through his book about the islands that a lot of the islanders was a bit too pro German. They could have done a lot more resistance towards the Germans than they did.

There is a fine line, if you just did your job, were you a collaborator? There are several degrees of collaboration up to actively aiding the enemy. What happened if Germans drank coffee in your cafe? What if you cleaned their rooms? Not everyone can be an active part of the resistance. (I’m not sure if there was an active resistance in the Channel Islands, nowhere to hide?). I’ve never been there so I’m ignorant.

there was an active underground press,lots of illegal radio sets however you cant exactly blow things up as there is no where to run to or hide . near the end of the war the germans were starving as much as the islanders, also if you worked for any government department you were working for the germans, john nettles is english so knows almost nothing and should keep his opinions to himself
