I find it ironic that Anya isnt considered Latina by many people because she doesnt look like a stereotypical latin woman when she lived in Argentina, has an Argentine family/citizenship and can still speak fluent Spanish with an Argentine accent yet many hollywood celebrities are hyped for claiming to be "Latino" but cant even speak Spanish. edit: looking at the comments I see many people are still confused about race, ethnicity and nationality go educate yourselves and stop relying on American stereotypes.

I’m not exactly sure which celebrities you are referring to, but it’s important to realize that even if you don’t speak the language, it’s still your culture. Sometimes parents don’t teach their children the language. I think it would be wrong to exclude someone from their own heritage just because of the language they speak or can’t speak.
@Stella-cf4cl3 жыл бұрын
She's not considered Latina because she's not. there's a difference between nationality and ethnicity. Even her Argentinian parents have European ancestry. Also, not every Latino person speaks Spanish. people from brazil would also be considered Latino despite it not being a Spanish-speaking country. you're mixing up latino with Hispanic, which is Latino people from Spanish-speaking countries, including Spain (but not including Brazil). She would be considered Hispanic because she is from a Spanish-speaking country.

Her father is English and Scottish and her mother is half English and half Spanish from Barcelona and born in Africa. So genetically speaking, she’s fully European. Just to remind people that Latin Americans can be of any race. They are white, black, indigenous, Arab, asian or a mix of anything and everything. A white Latina of European descent is still considered Latina. Same with Americans, Americans are of any race and culture. In Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, there are many people with European descent who are even whiter than Anya. That doesn't make them any less or any more latino. Anya's parents and whole family live in Argentina and they consider themselves latinos of European descent just like many other latinos in Hollywood like Alexis Bledel.

I could listen to her speaking all day, but those crystals got to be heavy AF, especially in the canvas bag.

OMG that is what I was thinking. I have a 5 year old that will sneak rocks into my purse for his collection & that gets heavy fast. But compared to her crystals I feel like a pansy complaining about pebbles

Anya in an interview described herself as Argentine and Latina. For people who do not know "Latin" are those peoples that share a link with the Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Roman). It is not a race. Latinos have different ethnic origins.

it's not incorrect to say that spanish people are latinos but i think it is better to say spanish-speaking, since with latinos we refer to people from latin america and they are europeans

When Anya says she is Latin she means she comes from a culture that is associated with the place known as Latin America. She is obviously not referring to race since you can be of Latin culture regardless of race. By the way, not all people in Latin America consider themselves Latin since many identify as indigenous. Some people identify as both Latin and of indigenous culture too.

Some people need to learn some argentine history because they don't really know that argentina used to be a mestizo country but at the end of 1800s and at the begging of 1900s there was a migration wave from Europe that made most of the people european and the mestizos that lived there became euro-mestizo(25% indigenous or less) now mestizos are a minority so basically if u go to Buenos Aires most of the people it's gonna think anya is a normal argentine
