I was waiting for this episode- knew it would make you hot! Britney got her own attorney in July. Her dad was just removed as conservator, a temporary conservator was appointed and their forensic accounting team will be going through the conservatorship’s books while they wind down the conservatorship! A fantastic lawyer REALLY makes a difference!

I have been diagnosed in the past as clinically depressed, having ADHD, bipolar and an anxious personality. I am now 70. My childhood trauma was emotionally distant parents with a narcissistic mother. When I was 13 I pushed back by being argumentative (probably like most 13s) with my mom. There was nothing more that I had done. She took me to the town sheriff and told him to lock me up in juvenile hall. Thankfully he saw that I was just a young kid and took my side. He asked a lot of questions of us. Thank God for him. I would probably have ended up in detection or a suicide. It has taken almost 25 years to finally find my therapist who recognized my trauma. I have been with her now for 4 years. Everyone deserves someone to be on their side. Thank you Kurt for your insight. I was triggered by this and cried again just reliving it in my mind.

I was in a similar situation in my childhood emoutinally distant parents and an abusive narcissistic father, I won't go into detail because it's a lot but I felt it was going down a really bad road that would go into my adulthood and I made a plan and left the day I turned 18. My mother later said with careful contact after leaving that she was going to take more legal action I wasn't aware of because of my mental issues and I'm glad I got away when I did because although it took time to get to a better place mentally I know if I got stuck under them I would have truly lost myself. This was definitely a triggering video but also validating to hear at the same time ❤️

Same for a large part. And then after 15 years of faulty diagnoses and traumatising treatment, I was finally healing in the right type of therapy... Only to then be abused by the therapist at my most vulnerable. It scares me a little hearing Dr Honda talk about how he sometimes had a position of power over others in a way that reaches beyond informed consent in therapy. I wonder if therapists are aware enough how they are agents of the state sometimes, in a more covertly power-abusive way. All under the guise of "help", which makes it more like gaslighting and emotional abuse than other types of violence, and the victim is left even more on their own. With their family and friends more likely to trust the therapist over their loved one. Plus, not only is it not helpful in the moment... it also breeds distrust to where a person is less likely to seek psychological help at a later point in life. I know that even if I still want to, I could never trust a therapist again. Even just their mandated reporting for su!cidal thoughts. Power SUCKS, especially when people/ therapists aren't honest and self-reflective about it and about the larger societal system they are a part of.

Britney’s court appointed/dad approved “attorney “ was paid $500k per year for the past 13(ish) years. Britney’s new attorney had dad Spears removed within 2 months, is now investigating Jamie Spears (the $$) and is in the process of winding down the conservatorship by the end of the year. It took him less than 6 months to get Britney out of this mess. Something is definitely wrong here .

Something interesting that this documentary didn’t mention is that Sam Ingham did end up sort of acting in Britney’s best interest and the conservatorship (Britney’s dad and his pals) ended up not paying him for over a year. He was actually at the hearing last week requesting to be paid. Not only that, but the initial judge based her decision on whether Britney had the capacity to hire her own attorney on a 15 minute meeting between sam Ingham and Britney when she was still on a psychiatric hold in 2008. He told the court Britney lacked the capacity and the judge just took his word for it. It blows my mind that can happen, not just in her case, but all others as well. Obviously the attorney wants to be hired, especially by an extremely wealthy client. There is too much incentive for conservators and court appointed counsel.

This entire Britney story is so triggering to me. I get so upset every time I think of the decade she has spent like this. Years of her life & youth she can never get back. Imagine Britney being a man, and then doing all the things she did (like shaving her head) as a man… would ppl think she was incompetent and needed conservatorship? Does anyone else thinks that they got away with it because she was a young woman????

Another reason why Forensic Psycologist’s diagnosis should be taken with a grain of salt in courts: they don’t get to have multiple one on one sessions with the subject. I don’t know exactly how they diagnose the person but I doubt it’s in a safe private environment where they really get to dwelve into the patients history & talk. Most psychologists need atleast 2-3 sessions to make sort of diagnosis

"Unsane" was great! A pretty "tired" premise (eg. "Gothika"), but really good.

No one was on Britney side except to get her money. The court appointed lawyer was getting paid by Britney through her father. He never told her that she had rights.

Request: Long time watcher first time question lol Please review I care a lot from Netflix The film is actually about this railroading of a patient by psychologist, nursing homes and lawyers for elderly people but as you mentioned it is warranted in some cases but some reactions to freedom being taken away is used against the individual to exhibit the behavior that warranted being out away. Great film and a interesting view on this predatory practice

I still don't get how they managed to diagnose her with dementia, unless we consider the option of corruption ... whatever Britney's issues might be, she's very clearly not suffering from dementia. I don't see how she could preform world tours, record 4 albums and have a multiple year residency in Vegas while suffering with dementia. Even if there were only "episodes" of it, Britney has been working non-stop since the start of her conservatorship so there must have been "episodes" of it. Also isn't dementia a degenerative condition? Shouldn't she have gotten worse with time? It just doesn't make any sense. My grandma was in a senior home in the last years of her life (she was, thankfully, mentally sound till the day she died) so I saw a lot of people with both dementia and Alzheimer's. And while yes, there were times when they appeared lucid, there were other times when they were completely disconnected from reality, erratic or just plain gone. And the instances of them being lucid decreased rapidly over the course of a few months to a year. What does make sense is that someone bribed a doctor to declare her as having dementia and then they just pumped drugs into her every time a new check-up of her mental health was needed for the court so she'd fail her exam, thus giving the judge no reason to even consider ending the conservatorship.

Even if you need a c-ship (I say that believing in most cases it is not necessary and there are other means that allow people to keep their civil rights), you should still have your own advocate to make sure that your rights within the system are represented. Think about cases that go before the supreme court to ensure that prisoners get a religious representative in the death chamber. Also, judges need to be aware of the mental consequences of restricting technology and communication. Also, how does it help? If I'm vulnerable to financial predators and my money is not under my control, scammers could contact me all day as they would have to get past the conservator to get any money sent to them.
