To give a little context to this cover: all five performers are LGBTQIA+ and they released this cover as an outlet for their feelings after the Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016.

Others have already explained the connection to the Pulse nightclub massacre in 2016, so I won't repeat that here. I *will* say that most of what you find on Superfruit is funny; "Rise" is the exception. * I live just west of Denver, Colorado. * My husband of 46 years killed himself in February. * I first discovered Pentatonix in September; listening to them and watching their videos has been very helpful to me in my grief. When I first heard that PTX would be including Denver in their winter concert tour schedule I was overjoyed, and immediately bought tickets for a friend and me for the Sunday, November 20th concert in Denver. We were in the cheap seats, but we were going to go and we were going to have fun! And then on November 19th a gunman attempted to recreate the horror of the Pulse massacre at Club Q, another Queer nightclub, but this one is in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles south of my home. This time we got lucky. This time there was a hero present, who ran *toward* danger, rather than away, and who, with no weapons of his own, actually managed to take down a man in body armor who was wielding an assault rifle! He says he isn't a hero. I've heard that one before - it's what the real heroes always say. Because of him, this time we "only" lost 5. One was the mother of an 11 year old boy. 😢 I found out about the Club Q shootings *just* before the concert. During the concert Mitch spoke about the shootings and led us in a moment of silence. Then Scott spoke about how Queer nightclubs are intended to be a safe place for the LGBTQ+ community to meet with friends, family members, and allies for good conversation and a little bit of fun, and what happens when that safe place isn't safe any more. Then Pentatonix pledged a large sum of money to help the survivors and the family members and friends of the casualties in Colorado Springs, and the show continued. Yes, it was a good show, though seriously overshadowed by what had happened the day before, but beyond that, everyone there was a fan of Pentatonix and therefore a fan of Mitch and Scott, who are openly gay, so we were among like-minded people, and that's helpful. And on Monday morning I woke up with a deep need to revisit Superfruit's cover of "Rise." That Thursday, November 24th was American Thanksgiving Day, my first holiday without my husband, a very cold and bleak day for me, and I was still listening to "Rise." I'm still listening to it now, for its powerful message of hope and empowerment - it is exactly what I need in order to go forward in my own life, and I've downloaded it and put it on my permanent playlist for that reason. And KZbin keeps popping up suggestions of people reacting to "Rise," which is how I found your channel. Thank you for this reaction.

Hi guys, I’m so happy you have chosen Rise, it’s a wonderful collaboration. Superfruit and the other singers released this song after the a terrible incident in an Orlando Florida. I’m sure other commenters will give you a lot more information…… If you have an open mind, and take it for what it is, a really funny song and hysterical video, then your next Superfruit hit could be GUY EXE. As many have said, the passion in all their voices is very real, and it hits you every time you see this video. You may have heard that Brian's performance of Creep on America's Got Talent is incredible. Just as amazing is a duet that Scott and Mario did on an LP cover called Lost on You. I live 45 minutes from where Pulse Nightclub was. This was a fantastic tribute to honor those slaughtered there. If you want funny Superfruit, try Hip Hop goes Broadway parts 1 and 2. There are bloopers at the end. You'll love them.

As many have already commented, this was done as a response and tribute following the mass shooting and murders at the Pulse Nightclub in 2016. The victims and location was targeted simply because they were lgbtq+. Each artist singing this is part of the lgbtq + community. The lyrics, when heard in that context, are powerful.

Superfruit (the channel) is a mishmash of things the guys (Mitch and Scott) did. It could be them playing a game, they could have a guest, it could be a mash-up recording, or an original song (like Guy.exe, or Future Friends), or something like their two parts titled "Hip Hop Goes Broadway."

Both of your faces at the end... lol! Pure ear candy, this one, thanks so much for doing it! Now, 9.2 Mr BP1. You're a tough nut (I've said this before), but I'm happy with that. I should probably warn you though that this is NOT a typical Superfruit song. They did this as a tribute for the Pulse Nightclub shootings (all five are members of the LGBTQ+ community). The lyrics certainly hit harder when you realise what they are referring to. Superfruit's original music is more of a pop sound. Their channel is mostly vlogs with skits and music mixed in here and there. I'm not sure they'll be your cup of tea, but they're definitely fun to watch. And even when goofing around, their vocals are still great. Not sure if you caught it, but I watched and commented on an older video of yours today. I won't type it all again, but it was about Mario Jose and Scott's duet of 'Lost on you'. It's mash up of LP's song and a Hans Zimmer movie score. It's genius. Anywho, thank you again! Worth waiting for, that! Edit: Guy.exe. Yeah, that's a Marmite song, that. Interested to see what you'd make of it. 😁

@@BritPopsReact you get a lot of comments because you put out entertaining videos. Lots of reactors get the views, but not the comments. I'm quite chatty here now because I'm comfortable posting. I don't comment an awful lot anywhere else, and when I do it's usually just to say I've subbed or to give suggestions. Superfruit have a lot of fans, so it's not surprising you had lots of feedback. I tend to watch them if I'm having a bad day. They crack me up. I was in literal tears of laughter watching their 'Stranger Things' spoof. 🤣🤣 Their original music is generally upbeat and catchy stuff. Hope you both enjoy your down time!

This song gives me chills every time. The song is a Katie Perry song though not much like her version. Guy.exe is SO funny and much more of a story video that's interesting. You're right that Brian Justin Crum is known originally from AGT - his version of Creep is breathtaking! And Mario Jose used to be on the PTX crew and they gave his career a nudge by having him open for them a time or two. He and Scott have a couple other side songs that are worth checking out. And as for more Superfruit - I put my vote on The Promise.....a heartwarming, beautiful song and video.

I have found, for myself anyway, that Katy Perry's songs when she sings them have very little impact or meaning its fluff and i dont like them, however when someone else sings them/covers them the words are so meaningful and brilliant and clear i usually end up loving them. idk why that is bcz i like katy generally speaking but her singing this was just a little boppy tune with not a lot of meaning but when these guys did it it had great meaning ofc they are singing it in response to a tragedy but even other songs she has done have this same response from me.

Actually, "GUY.EXE" was posted on the 27th of October, 2017, over a year before Superfruit's final video, "The Promise." I wouldn't count on Superfruit getting back together any time soon - Scott got engaged to his boyfriend Mark Manio earlier this year and shows every sign of wanting to spend every spare moment with Mark. They're planning to get married in 2023, I believe, and have said that they want to start a family. If that works out for them children will leave Scott with very little spare time for the next several years at least. A few months ago Scott released a beautiful video of a song he wrote for Mark, called "Mars." Highly recommended.
