Blue Bell is very good. Whether it's "the best" would be subjective, and there are lots of regional creameries, and many of us love churning out a batch of our own. But i certainly wouldn't turn down Blue Bell, if offered.

Hi, I was born in California, raised in New Jersey spent my adult life in Maryland then retired and moved to Texas a few years ago. I live in a small town located between Amarillo and Lubbock. I had never tasted Blue Bell Ice Cream until I moved to Texas.! So needless to say I love Blue Bell, any of the 3 vanilla flavors that I have tasted are my favorite, also love the Dutch Chocolate and the Butter Pecan,. Most of all I really LOVE TEXAS!!!!

I am so lucky to be from Texas and grew up eating it! It is so good and certainly can't go wrong with the Homemade Vanilla all by itself!! I do love Mint Chocolate Chip, Cookies & Cream and Neapolitan (Homemade Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate & Strawberry) or The Great Divide (Homemade Vanilla & Dutch Chocolate). A relatively new one I like is called Cookie Two Step (vanilla ice cream, chunks of chocolate crème filled cookies & chocolate chip cookie dough pieces. All delicious, but I try to be good and buy a 1/2 gallon only 2-3 times a year.

Blue Bell will always remind me of my dad. He loved a coke float, used Blue Bell exclusively. 😁 When he was in the hospital with organ failure (age 90) he had a dietary restriction of no dairy. The only thing that sounded good to him was a coke float. When I asked his doctor about it he said, "I am not telling a 90 year old man that he can't have a coke float".

The vanilla ice cream 🍨 is actually Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream. It is the oldest recipe for vanilla ice cream that used to be made from snow, which is why it has more than just the vanilla flavor, it actually has the snowy flavor tagging along. You can get all three flavors of vanilla, strawberry and chocolate together called Neapolitan. The strawberry ice cream is made from real strawberries, so there is going to be fruit pieces in it. The chocolate is awesome, but they make a wilder version called Rocky Road and a less wild Great Divide, which is chocolate and vanilla.

Fun fact: I worked for Bluebell as a teen for a summer job. The break room had freezers full of ice cream that was free to all employees. As much as you wanted lol. The strawberries for Bluebell and our local grocery brand (H.E.B.) are both locally sourced from Poteet, Texas. A small town south of San Antonio that is known for it's strawberries, and strawberry festival. I personally like they're giant chocolate covered strawberries. Most of their mix-ins are bought from local farmers. Glad you enjoyed them. P.S. the homemade vanilla and 1905 vanilla recipes have real vanilla bean mixed in (no extracts) that's what you were tasting.

Hard disagree. The best ice cream in the country is ice cream with the 3-4 simple ingredients. Cream, milk, sugar, eggs. Most "ice creams" including Blue Bell, are full of high-fructose corn syrup, cellulose gum, and multiple vegetable gums. That stuff is horrible for digestion and also makes the consistency terrible. The BEST ice cream in the country in my opinion is Haagen-Dazs and Turkey Hill All Natural. I think a lot of people just like Blue Bell because its made in Texas...which is understandable. Natural is always best though.

Blue Bell isn't sold in the Pacific NW, but I've heard about it! We have some wonderful local brands too. You've gotta come up here some time! Tillamook and Umpqua ice creams are fantastic. You need to come up to try Tillamook's cheeses, anyway. 😁 They just won 12 awards in the 2023 International Cheese and Dairy awards (held in England), including 2 gold medals. They use extra cream in their ice cream. I'm glad you got to try Blue Bell. Looked wonderful. I think I'll get some Tillamook for Christmas. 😄 As someone else suggested, you need to buy an ice cream maker. You only need ice, salt and the ice cream ingredients, and you too can have the best ice cream ever. I had one for years, and you just can't get as good as homemade. The first more advanced flavor I made was strawberry cheesecake. Half & half, heavy whipping cream, and a package of cream cheese, plus strawberries. I never made it again. Why? It was so rich and amazing that none of us could eat more than about one scoop! It took us forever to eat up the 2 quarts my ice cream maker made. We didn't dare eat larger servings; we were afraid we'd get sick. (But yeah, we would've died happy.) Best ice cream in my life. We all looked like Mrs. H with the butter pecan. 😄 Butter pecan is indeed a wonderful flavor.

Sorry, but ice cream is a subjective thing. New Englanders produce a lot of small batch, artisan ice cream that is superior. , (and, no, I didn't grow up there.) Depends on your taste buds. There are a lot of ice creams that to mine taste like cardboard. IMO,Texas/Blue Bell has not cornered the market.

I live in Oklahoma and I absolutely love Blue Bell Ice Cream. My favorite is one they seem to have discontinued, it was "Banana Split" and it tasted exactly like an old fashioned Banana Split. I don't know if B Splits are common in the UK, but you should definitely try one!

Did you know that an Englishman is considered to to the father of the development of the pecan industry? E.E. Risien immigrated to Texas in the 1800’s and settled in a small central Texas town, San Saba, and is credited with this. Mr. Risien’s descendants still are in the pecan industry here.

Once upon a time, the state of Texas ran out of Bluebell. Happened about 10 years ago I think. Anyway, it was terrible! You couldn’t get it anywhere. Something about some contamination in the factory that had to be cleaned up before production could resume. Somebody from up north, clearly out of state, absolutely not from around here actually wrote an article in one of the newspapers saying that it wasn’t a bad thing because now, we Texans could be exposed to other flavors of ice cream by other makers and bluebell might actually suffer some marketshare when it came back because we would get hooked on to other brands. Not a snowballs chance in hell! Now, y’all know why. When it was back, it practically flew off the store shelves in those coolers just as fast as they could stock them. And it just tickles me pink how much you like butter pecan! I love it too. If you want to try something a little more grown-up, run down to the nearest liquor store and get yourself a jar of butter pecan moonshine. Imagine, if you will, butter pecan ice cream melted into a thick and delicious liquid with all that magical flavor and a great, walloping kick that you can barely taste but you Will absolutely feel just as sure as you’re born after a couple cups. It’s dangerous stuff. It’s yummy, cheap and they give you a lot in that mason jar.
