Korean bbq is a family thing where a grill is the center of the table. Basically it’s cuts of pork, marinated or straight, you grill it right there. They sometimes use scissors to cut it or you do it yourself with a pair they leave at the table. Charcoal was the standard but electric grills have become more popular because of the whole carbon thing. Honestly it doesn’t really matter. Always the servers leave a bunch of little plates on the table, those are actually accompanying the meat as taste changer. Usually fermented bean sauce (just a salt component), pickled bean sprouts, kimchi (the spice component), water kimchi which could be a lot of root vegetables pickled in some way, and whatever is good at the market that day. You put a little on the meat but don’t overstuff and wrap the entire thing in a sesame leaf or combine with a salad they provide. Also rice but it’s just there as a curtesy really as nobody is interested in it. The nice finale is using rice to combine with the stuff on the grill to make fried rice, although that has to done on a flattop grill not a standard grill rack. Koreans don’t really use salt or pepper in their cuisine instead it’s on the table for you to season yourself. That along with pepper and sometimes shrimp sauce which actually are tiny little shrimp preserved in vinegar. You adjust seasoning as needed. Korean cuisine is about the personal choice always making it your own way adjusting seasoning or allowing people to make something their way. It’s the most interactive cuisine out there. Also sometimes you may see longhorn chilies or other types of long chilies straight up raw. This is actually normal as it’s a way to introduce a gentle heat if you like as people sometimes just want a little heat to cut through the meat flavors. They actually bite them right there. The Koreans also do a wonderful seafood hotpot and just seafood is a forte of theirs. Just be a bit cautious as they eat some dangerous creatures like stone fish which is one very toxic fish if you step on it but remove the spines and it’s completely harmless. You have to certified by government agencies to even handle stone fish let alone cut it. The Koreans eat chopped up baby octopus raw which still move only due to electrical signals trying to get through but the animal is dead. They don’t have much flavor if at all unless you dip them in something like Korean bbq sauce or hot sauce or whatever. They clean out the inside of your mouth though.

@mdskydive7245 Yeah, BBQ doesn't have racial lines. Multiple groups contributed to what became BBQ and BBQ is deeply embedded in the culture of Americans both white and black. So I don't see how it could only have been the black soldiers. Unless literally just one soldier bothered to do so and he just happened to be black.

Technically, Korean bbq is grilled meats eaten communaly. You have a cooker in the center of the table (charcoal is the best) and you cook very thinly sliced meats. You have a variety of sides and sauces on the side (& a bowl of rice). Once the meat is done, you make a little taco with lettuce. It is fantastic!

You put your grilled meat along with rice, sauce, and vegetables onto a leaf of lettuce. Then you wrap your creation inside the lettuce and consume.

@mokumboi192 ай бұрын
Yeah, I went and looked up the ingredients, and these only seem to be "Korean" because it uses a little bit of gochujang, which is a Korean chili pepper paste. For instance, Korean fried chicken is insanely crunchy, even when doused in sauce. And Korean barbecue does not come doused in sauce (it really would not work on s pizza, to be honest). I hope this food was yummy, but just know it's not really terribly Korean. :) Honestly, I think real Korean barbecue and Korean fried chicken would blow your minds in a totally different way than the American versions have. Definitely keep those on your list.
@mdskydive72452 ай бұрын

Korean BBQ, like American BBQ is incredible. You need to actually go to a real Korean BBQ spot, try to find an All You Can Eat Korean BBQ joint if you can - best value for money and depending on the place you'll get an amazing variety of stuff to choose from. Now I know Jolly has done Korean BBQ videos in the UK, so they are around for sure. Just keep in mind, real Korean BBQ can be quite spicy, depending on what sauces you use/are given to you to use. I'd say Korean BBQ is much spicier than most other styles of BBQ around the world, save for BBQ from say Thailand or Vietnam etc.
@patricialavery82702 ай бұрын
Korean versions of American dishes appear to be a coming thing though their "corndogs" aren't really corndogs from what I've seen. Actual Korean food can be quite spicy. I like Kimchee, used to get it at a Chinese buffet all the time. My pizza I make is very bready. If you make a pizza like that brush olive oil or butter on the exposed edge and season with parmesan and herbs before baking and see if you skip that crust. I can't leave crust unless it is completely inedible, my parents and the Irish nuns who taught me at school would haunt me forever. lol.

"Korean BBQ" is pretty much just raw meat, cooked over clean coals, with a few sauces to dip each piece in and ginger slivers and kimchi to pick up with it. It's cooked in 1 to 2 minutes over heat, thats it. The use of any BBQ sauce in America or the West...is NOT KOREAN. They DO NOT use anything you would recognize as BBQ sauce in Korea...that is the "Americanization" and an attempt to make it closely fit what the west thinks of BBQ. They also don't do "BBQ Ribs" like we do, so again, that's just taking Western food and adding an Asian flare and calling it Korean....it isn't. Watch any of Jolly's other channel "The Korean Englishmen" they do A LOT of KBBQ and it never features anything "Korean BBQ" like here.

Asians, not Orientals, Orient is the region not the people. They get kind of saucy about that one. By Asian flavors, you mean Umami, that is what they call the Asian savory flavors.
