For me, I'm not a fan of McDonald's because they are very nasty and have had issues with quality and shady things with their meat in the US. I have many choices where I live, and the only reason I stop at McDonald's is for the Hi-C Orange drink.

McDonalds is "I'm driving in a place I've never been to and need a stop with a clean bathroom" food. It is generally reliable. Corporate tends to keep the franchises up to a certain minimum standard. Unless the neighborhood is really dicey, they aren't too scary. When I was a kid, we'd eat out after church once every other month. It was always McDonalds. I loved the fries and Big Mac, but both don't seem taste as good as they used to. Maybe my tastebuds have grown up.

The McRib is only around for about a month around thanksgiving then it disappears again. It’s a very limited run. People love getting it. I kinda have a fondness for it. The problem is that it rarely shows up. One place in Germany has the McRib all year long.
@Patrick-nv5ug3 ай бұрын
It was actually designed by a very skilled chef. I am with you on the so-so thing. The price is right. One of the reasons it is seasonal is that it being on the menu actually affects the price of pork after a month or so. And that will drive it off the menu.

I always loved the McRib, though as others have said, it's not the same as legit BBQ. I agree it's its own unique thing and a guilty pleasure. Definitely probably don't want to find out what it's made of. The McDonald's apple pies are pretty awesome, though I've only had the original, living in Ghana, West-Africa now for like 3 years, we unfortunately don't have McDonald's here. I say unfortunately because I know lot of people hate McDonald's, but one of my favorite things I used to get almost daily and anytime of the day that's a fav, and I crave to this day, is the sausage, cheese McMuffin, I love just the sausage and cheese one. Something about the crunch of a McMuffin when toasted properly, with the cheese and sausage combo they have, is perfect to me. Also, I remember Mrs. H don't like Reeses much, unless it changed since the U.S., but y'all should try any kind of Reeses pieces ice cream like a Blizzard from Dairy Queen when back in the U.S. or local ice cream place. Not sure if y'all have had Reeses pieces or not, but they're kinda like M&Ms but with Reeses peanut butter instead, one of my all time favorite movie theater snacks and candies in general. McDonald's - making people rethink their life choices since 1953. 😅

I love when McRib makes it's occasional appearances at McDonalds. It's not new but only makes an appearance for a limited time a couple times a year even here in the US. It's not real bbq but I love it anyway. 😂 By the way it's not a real rib. The McRib is a McDonald's sandwich made of a restructured pork patty that's shaped like a miniature rack of ribs. The patty is primarily made from ground boneless pork shoulder, but also contains water, spices, dextrose sugar, and preservatives. The meat is emulsified to refine its flavor and texture, and liquid smoke gives it a smoky flavor.

Mrs. H is right. It is pork meat "mashed together", like she said, formed into "rib" shape (?) and soaked in barbacue sauce. It is sold once a year in December only.
@kenlangston34513 ай бұрын
The McRib started in the early 80s because a heat wave across the country led to a poultry shortage. They couldn’t get enough chicken to make the newly released Chicken McNuggets which were wildly popular. Pork was plentiful and cheap so they used the same techniques used to make the McNugget to make the pork rib shaped patty.

Yes is is formed boneless rib meat. Or some kind that isn't beef. Never been a huge fan. They may have added carob to stretch the chocolate. It tastes similar but I can tell the difference. Less natural bitterness. Looks like they tried to recreate the bubbly look of the old pies everyone preferred. McD's is always McD's. It's like Taco Bell, reasonably priced, convenient food that always tastes pretty much the same. I have no patience for people who get it and make a big show of hating it because it isn't something other than it is. It is fast food basically targeted towards fussy children who want it a bit bland and always the same. They know their customer base pretty well. Thank you for a calm ,honest review. My favorite there is the McGriddle. I also like Quarter Pounder with cheese or just a bag of regular cheeseburgers ,fries and a chocolate shake. Any leftover cheeseburgers are actually good cold as a late night watching TV snack. BTW if you go to a Taco Bell over there ,don't be like Gary Eats and eat it plain and complain it's bland ,make sure you get all the hot sauce varieties if you can ,it is meant to have the sauce. It isn't on it probably ,again, for kids who may like cheese but not much spice.

Last I heard the McRibb was a thing in the US that would appear for a short time then disappear again. I had it once. They can keep it in the UK from now on. It isn't so much the synthetic meat (although that is weird) it is the sugary sauce. To answer the question you may not want answered, the fabrication of an edible rack of ribs was amazing. McRibs are flaked and formed pork. Which is why they always got a pass from me. When I worked at Carl's Jr. Back in the day, they used to sell a flaked and formed steak sandwich. I passed on that one too. Lol 😂 In the States the McRib was a permanent menu item. Then sales started to flag so they took it off the menu. Then people complained they took it off the menu. So now they trot it out once a year for a limited time which tends to drive sales while its available. 😆 The apple pie looks like the turnovers we used to get until McDonalds decided they were too unhealthy and switched to baked pies as opposed to deep fried turnovers. Its hard to find turnovers at any fast food restaurant as most followed McDonald's example. Jollibees is probably one of the exceptions. 😅

I'm assuming that you eat hamburgers! Which is formed from ground beef which I know you already know. The McRib is formed from ground pork shoulder roast. I know nothing about Carl's jr steak sandwich. But assuming it's like a hamburger formed in a different shape. But I'm just guessing. I'm trying cause a problem here! I seen a video about how they made the McRib. On a show that was called How is it made. I've seen it years ago I don't know if you can still find it or not now. Sorry this is so long! Have a great day!

Ground beef is a lot different from flaked and formed meat. It's like comparing mashed potatoes to dehydrated potato flakes reconstituted with water to make "instant" mashed potatoes. While they are similar the texture and taste are way off. Carl's Jr. Used to have reconstituted French fries. They would put a bag of powdered potatoes known as Frispo into a hopper at the top. Water would be added to the mix to reconstitute the potatoes then it would be pushed through a cylinder which had a grate at the end to create the crinkle cut shape. Then a rod with some fishing line would cut them into their final form and that would be collected in a fry basket and then deep fried. Back then we used beef lard for the oil. My how things have changed now. Lol. 😂

McRib is okay, if you understand what you're actually getting. Ground up pork bits shaped into a patty smothered in a sweet BBQ sauce. In the US at least you can go to a Supermarket freezer case and look for a box labeled On-Cor Rib Patties that's the exact same thing, but frozen, where a pack of six is cheaper than the single item you'll get at McDonald's.

I’ve never understood the love for the McRib. I’ve tried it a few times in my life and each time I’m like, “Well… this is food I guess” lol

The McRib is not good food, but people who want good food should stay far away from McDonald's. The McRib is bad food that tastes good; which is the best McDonald's will ever do.

I like McRibs. It is technically chopped and pressed pork shoulder..... ie Spam, but it is a pretty good quality of chopped and pressed pork shoulder. The bbq sauce is very distinctive and subjectively good. I like to dip my fries in the sauce. I have been impatiently waiting the the McRibs to return here (typically happens for about a month once to twice a year around here).

The reason it seems to be a big deal, in my opinion, is that its something very different from the usual fare. In the US, we eat fast food often, and many of us are in a rut ordering our "usual". That makes the change of order a breath of fresh air for many. Peace.

Only available during Autumn in USA. I love them and look forward to them every year

It's not rib meat. It's pork. It's just pressed into a rib shaped patty.😊

I was working at McDonald's when they first introduced the mcrib. It was better then. The one you showed looked dry. They are supposed to be simmered in the sauce. Not dry with some sauce squirted on top. It's just chopped up pork pressed into a ribbon looking shape.

Obviously not the high end rib equivalent, but I love the McRib for what it is. I go out of my way to get it.
