I would recommend trying a 3 cheese blend. IF you want to Really kick it up a notch. 2 Slice American Cheese 2 Slice Sharp Cheddar Cheese 2 Slice Swiss Cheese Stack all three cheese slices on top of one another and cut them into thirds Then on one slice of bread you place (Vertically) Cheddar-Swis-American On the other slice of bread (Horizontally) American-Swiss-Cheddar this way when you place the slices of Bread together you end up with a “Lattice” pattern and with each bite you will be able to taste each of the three cheeses.

I love grilled cheese and lsoup... any kind of soup... especially since Bart makes really good home made soups! We also like to make grilled cheese using more than just one kind of cheese, pick your 3 favorite types of cheese, 1 slice of each per sandwich, butter the outsides, and lightly sprinkle parmasean on the buttered sides of the bread, and grill your sandwhich as you did here. Here's another version. ... a quesidilla - take tortilla .. flat bread, cover one side with melted butter using a pastry brush, set butter side down on pan on cold flat pan or griddle. Add shredded Mexican style cheese on one half of the tortilla, add shredded chicken pieces, sautéed diced onions, and diced sweet pepper if you like then fold the empty half over the cheese mixture. You could also use ground sausage or hamburger meat instead of the chicken. Grill both sides over medium heat until golden brown... mmmmm... we had that for supper the other night! In addition, you could add all of your chosen ingredients and cover the whole tortilla, blend it all together first, add another tortilla on top, then just flip it like you would a grilled sandwich when the cheese looks melted. Cut in 2 or 4 pieces for dipping in soup. 😊❤😊❤ I enjoy watching Elana helping you in the kitchen she is such a good helper, although I think she could be a little nicer on her grading system... lol! I am sure she will watch these when she gets older and laugh, such great memories you are making... thank you so much for sharing her in your videos, it has been fun watching her grow up!! I love how every video I've watched with non-Americans trying to make this shows them assembling the entire sandwich and then putting it in the skillet. Noooo, you butter a piece of bread, put it in butter side down. Then you pile the cheese on it, and you have to use at least one slice of American cheese, because it is the glue that holds it all together, but you can use fancier cheeses to supplement, and shredding them helps . Don't be shy with the cheese. Then you put the final piece of bread on top with butter side up. As it cooks, you smash it down with your spatula, and when the bottom is done, you flip it over. You're welcome.

10:30. Imagine that it is snowing outside and you prepare a grilled cheese sandwich and make hot tomato soup. It's cold outside, but insides are now warm & toasty after eating grilled cheese & tomato soup. :o)

I'm drooling over your soup! We always use Campbell's condensed soup. :) Truthfully, we get the soup from Aldi unless Sam's Club has a good price on Campbell's. When we first got married, stores would have Campbells on special, 10 for $1.00. ONE! And now it's over a buck a can unless you get a good deal at Sam's club. Either way, either brand, I'm sure it's nothing on that lovely soup you made! And a soup maker! Never heard of such a critter. Looks like something I need to look out for. I still like to put the butter on my bread, then you know you're completely covered. In my part of the world, we called them, "Toasted cheese," sandwiches, as well as grilled cheese. Not everyone from other parts of the US know what a "toasted cheese" sandwich is, though. We like mixing up cheeses, making sure to have gooey cheeses on the top and bottom of our cheese stack so it all sticks together.

I like cheddar cheese on them. Y'all are fancy making your own soup! If you want just a grilled cheese sandwich (and not dip in the tomato soup), you should fry some bacon first, put it in the sandwich and then cook it. It is so good.

Now I want grilled cheese and tomato soup! Tuna fish sandwiches dipped in tomato soup is really good too. Also, tuna melts are something you may want to try - they sound gross and I would never consider even trying one - someone eventually talked me into trying one and I was shocked at how tasty it was. Love your videos and Elana looked so cute scrutinizing all the ingredients being added to the soup - made me chuckle. Much love from NY!!

A quick and easy tip for the grilled cheese sandwiches, just mix two or more different kinds of cheeses. Almost any combination is great! 💙💙💙

As a kid, we had this at home all the time but with cheddar cheese. Now-a-days I typically make creamy Tuscan tomato as I like the basil in the soup. I often use two types of cheese and sometimes butter the outside of the bread and sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese to make the outside even more crunchy. You can try it many ways. It is fast and easy. We had it all winter long. Good job guys. Now you really are becoming more American by the day.

I am 51 and growing up this was one of many feel good comfort foods as a child. It is super popular with kids and adults in the Winter. You would come in from playing outside int he snow and Mom would often have hot cocoa and then it was normaly a bowel of tamato and basil soup and grilled cheese sandwhich. It is a very economical affordable dish that warms you up. I lived in Germany for 12 years and all of my German friends ate what ever my mom made and loved it. If American cheese is not easy to find any cheese that melts well works great it is just that most people expect American Cheese on a cheese burger or grilled cheese. Often people will also add some form of thnly sliced cold cut like ham or American Bacon(pre-cooked bacon). A lot of Americans will butter both sides of the bread before putting cheese on and tossing in the frying pan but some only butter the outside. Any cheese in the Edam family works great. Swiss works great. Chedars or Farm Cheese that melt well add more flavor. There is no wrong way with the Tamato soup garlic, onions, tyme, basil, oregano, salt, black pepper all good. The norm is onion, basil, salt, black pepper. When I am really wanting something to warm me up I will add a little bit of ginger and what ever peppers I have in the garden or that are seasonal. Sweet peppers and red, yellow or orange bell peppers go well but green pepper are a bit too bitter for some! A lot of times the soup is served piping hot and for little kids you will add some regular milk from the fridge to cool it down a bit more. As an American that lived in Germany for 12 years I love sharing a taste of America with my European cousins! America would not exist if not for British Colonies and is likewise diverse with mostly European settlers! The British gave us a language and a solid base before we went our own way. The British have been a fantastic alley since WWI until today!

Grilled cheese and tomato soup has been a staple fast meal in my house for 70 years . When I was young white bread and American cheese was the way to go as we grew and got older Rye bread or rye and Pumpernickel bread became more common also a mix of american cheese and gruyiare or just swiss cheese pairs nicely with the soup.

White bread buttered on the outside and lots of American cheese slices on the inside. And I love Campbells tomato soup. ( made with water not milk.) I eat this at least once a week. ❤

The soup and sandwich looked delectable. My favorite grilled cheese is made with Gruyere. It's one of my favorite cheeses, so I also frequently use it in my Mac-n-cheese, too. I'm going to try the Balsamic in my tomato soup next time. I think I'll appreciate the tang. Cheerio 😊

@@sherryford667 The soup recipe was their own they found during their own research. I just suggested the American Classic of a Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tomato soup and they happened to pick it. I let them know ahead of time that you can switch things out like the tomato soup for chicken noodle soup but usually the tomato soup is the go to. Try different cheeses, combination of cheeses, and breads like wheat, rye, or sour dough or whatever other bread you may like. I knew by having them do this many people would come out of the wood work and speak on their own behalf of what their own preferences are. Some people use mayo rather than butter, and some people use both with butter on the outside and mayo on the inside, just as another example. Peppers, onions, etc. It's all about preferences and it's honestly one of those meals that's so simple enough yet so strong in its strength to explore with.

you want to spread the butter on the bread like toast before you put it in the skillet or on the griddle. also, mix the butter with a little bit of garlic and some chopped up basil and use mozzarella and/or provolone for a fun italian style grilled cheese. that's fun with a little marinara as a dipping sauce.
