From what I have been told here in the US..Boston Cream Pie is technically a CAKE, but regardless...it's delicious. I like to freeze mine a bit before cutting and serving...eating it rather cold makes the Custard a tiny bit crunchy with the minute Ice Crystals that form in it!!😋

I think your end product looks AMAZING, Mrs. H! The switch from corn syrup to maple syrup will affect the thickness of the mirror glaze, it's a tiny bit firmer with corn syrup. But considering the switch you had to make, it came out so well. One would never know you had to switch, and switching things in baking is not easy! Great job! I'm still pushing for you three to try Gooey Butter Cake, which is a St. Louis thing. In fact... I'm gonna go get my mom's recipe and email it over to you. :D

Just a quick fyi: Golden Syrup is probably the closest to corn syrup UK has. I often use golden syrup over corn syrup here in the states because I love the flavor of it over corn most of the time.
@heidifogelberg35448 ай бұрын
I was thinking she could alternatively make a simple syrup - just boiling sugar into water til it dissolved. (This is also the sweet basis of southern sweet tea, and is used often in cocktails).
@olpossum8 ай бұрын
@@heidifogelberg3544 I think simple syrup would be too runny....unless she boiled the heck out of it. Considering she has a good substitute easily bought...I'd skip the agony of waiting for syrup to boil down to the right viscosity.

@NotKev2017 what? You're saying maple and vanilla/maple and chocolate don't blend well? Genuinely asking have you just never had maple syrup or something? If you don't like it that's one thing but those are famous pairings lmfao Chocolate, vanilla, and maple all do work together quite well (especially when you consider maple syrup literally contains vanillin, the chief flavor compound of vanilla) at least to most people. Have you ever had Chocolate chip pancakes with syrup? That's vanilla, chocolate, and maple Hot chocolate with pancakes on a cold winters morning on the slopes?

I am aware it is quite a good bit away from now, but i think it would be so cool if you guys celebrated Thanksgiving this year. It's a food holiday, inviting over family, setting up a whole extra table to fit all the people you love, and spending all morning in the kitchen making everything from scratch. It is personally my favorite holiday! Turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, super soft carrots, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pie, sweet potato casserole, dinner rolls, apple pie, roasted brussels sprouts, mac and cheese, baked corn, tell everyone to bring wine and pick up some sparkling apple juice for the kiddos to drink. Go around the table and express what you're truly thankful for in this life, toast and cheers for new memories, and take an hour-long break between dinner and dessert so everyone can have a chance to nap. It's a celebration worth trying out if you're able to give it 100% effort. I am positive if you asked us for recipes you would get a whole lot to choose from, make sure you do some research on proper cooking tools for making the dishes, I have a book of every kitchen tool/utensil and what it's use is, VERY GOOD PURCHASE!

I love Boston Cream Pie! It's always been a favorite of mine. The doughnut is a bit greasy, which the pie is not. Rather than use maple syrup, use treacle. Amazon does sell corn syrup - use the light corn syrup. Have you made tea breads? They are cakes, fairly dense cakes, baked in a loaf pan. They tend to be less sweet than traditional cakes, they don't normally get frosted, and you slice them in generous slices. They're utterly delicious with a cup of tea! I like lemon poppy seed, zucchini bread, banana walnut or pecan bread, carrot walnut bread, blueberry bread, or cranberry pecan bread. You can use this as dessert OR slice a piece, toast it, and spread a bit of butter on it for breakfast. Yummy! Definitely try the tea breads!!!

Boston Cream Pie is one of my all time favorites! Corn syrup is typically a substitute for sugar. . . I’d imagine that the substitution for maple syrup would not be 1:1. Also, the taste of maple syrup is definitely recognizable (not in a bad way, but distinctively “maple” - and not what a Boston Cream Pie classically tastes like). That being said, I’m sure it was delicious! Who does not love maple? I can’t wait to try it!

That's a really good thing to do, taste, taste, taste through out the whole process, that way it's a sort of quality control and you can make sure all the flavors are on point through out the cook. Like a beef stew that you cook for a long time, the flavors will change from the beginning to the finished product. It's also a really good way to build up your pallet so you know what specific things are supposed to taste like. Also the Boston Cream donuts are basically like the eclairs you guys had in texas, except round, they are so good.

I think the maple syrup is a thinner consistency than the corn syrup, which is why the ganache dripped down the side more quickly than it might have done otherwise. Also it would have slightly changed the taste a bit, but taste-wise it still would be delicious. 😊

Forgetting to add a bit of vanilla to the cake just lets the cream and chocolate flavors shine more. It does help boost the flavor in the cream though so since you enjoyed it you should definitely not forget it next time, lol. I, personally would have added only about half the amount of syrup to the chocolate though. It would have made it just slightly less runny and stayed a bit better on top. That said, you did a fantastic job, especially for a first attempt. Well done! 👏🏼😁 BTW, Elana is just getting more and more adorable by the day. Such a wonderful little lady you're raising there! 🥰

I had the same reaction the first time I tried it. And, Boston cream donuts are the BEST ❤
