I have a lot of facial dysphoria, too; I've been misgendered my whole life (I am a cis woman) and I've always hated my man face. Once I stopped using makeup to "fix" my ugliness and just started decorating myself, I started a long journey toward accepting myself. Plus, as I get older, everyone either gets creepy filler & surgery face, or starts looking less "gendered" so now I am starting to just look normal. I have a symmetrical face with average features, so I really don't know why no one likes it (i think i look normal tbh, but i get feedback otherwise), but I care a lot less than I used to...

I had never really felt pretty, and couldn't seem to achieve it with makeup either. It took me YEARS to be like "no girl, you got giant bug eyes stop trying to do things that don't match your eye shape, also relax it's just makeup" and it's made a world of difference. @irradiated_woman80163 жыл бұрын
Robert mentioned this, but playing with eyeshadow in the outer corner is REALLY helpful for figuring out what shapes fit the unique geometry of your eye lids and sockets. I have round deep-set eyes, so my crease is deep as well and extends below my lashline. Very bad for wings. Moreover, my sockets are shaped differently. Not enough to be outwardly noticable, but enough to make symmetrical eyeliner seem impossible. The point being, eye shapes are wacky, but I've figured out how to achieve the shapes I want by testing different shadow placements. It's so much more forgiving when you're contending with less typical shapes and/or asymmetry!! I've also found hooded eye tutorials really helpful even though my eyes arent truly hooded-they teach you workarounds that can actually be applied in a variety of situations :-). Highly reccomend Annette'a makeup corner - her "big wing for hooded eyes" tutorial helped me SO much.

Robert, I love what you said at 20:28 in the video, where you begin to speak about why people like to do make-up. You began with, It means a lot more than experimenting or having fun, as it helps with mental health. When I was a teenager in the 80's, I went to the department store make-up counters to buy, but mostly to learn. I had an amazing Lancome MUA show me how to contour & highlight areas of my face, which as a self conscious teenager meant so much. He was my go-to to learn to apply make-up, & in turn, gave me more confidence, esp. because I needed to cover acne. I hated my face so much because of it. So I'd learn how to do eyeshadow/eye liner so I could take the focus from my facial acne to my eyes. Fast forward to last year, & at the beginning of the quarantine, I started watching make-up technique videos (and luckily found yours!). It was comforting to do make-up even when I felt isolated, and essentially had no where to go but work. It was a calming thing to watch your videos, laugh, and learn about new techniques & products that I probably wouldn't have known about or tried. It's a nice community of people you've gathered here, & I love the positivity & kindness of everyone. I still definitely apply make-up every morning before work or going out shopping, even if I have to wear a mask that covers most of it! I like the fact that I can play up my eyes more since they are the most visible. The thing I miss most is lipstick, but I can wear it around the house to vacuum..or whatever ;) So, thank you for mentioning how make-up can actually be healing, helpful, and transformative. Not just for looks, but for the soul xo

I had no idea who she was until this video and she is ABSOLUTELY a representation of the stages of what happens as I do my make up!! The inspiration to make this beautiful work of art and put your best face forward, the determination to make it happen then frustration when it doesn't look how you wanted/expected it to, the lack of confidence that it looks awful then working it in the mirror when it all comes together. I just followed her and I can't wait to binge her videos!! Thanks for bringing ger introducing her to us!! #spiritanimal

I'm surprised how she made that shape with that eyeliner pencil .I cannot make my wing look half as good as hers with a pencil at least ,,,pencils are just not for me ever LOL

I didn't realise how much I needed to hear your comments on make up and it's link to mental health. It's one of my feel good mechanisms and I hadn't realised how much I need to get back to just playing with what works for me and not being hung up on why I can't get a cut crease to work x

This is exactly why I love watching you. You don't just point out and say that is not how you do it. You always say the why part. Like how the brush is designed to move up the face. Makeup is my release from everything chaotic. It does help with anxiety. Love you Robert thank you for being you

I just sent Robert a question about eyeliner for round eyes. Ha, question answered. 😄 Also I have to remind myself that my eyes/brows are sisters and not twins.

The speech you said about mental health and feeling included in the makeup world was so beautiful 😢❤️

I don't wear makeup much but when I draw and I'm staring at the drawing for a long time I grow to hate it but if I walk away and come back it doesn't look as bad. Idk if this would work for makeup but I just remembered that

Yes exactly!! When I’m doing a client and say for example ... the eyebrows seem wrong too me but I can’t figure out why, I will pretend to rummage in my kit for something then take another look! Always works! 🖤🖤

Just wanted to say thank you so much for mentioning mental health and makeup. For me makeup helps me with my anxiety, it helps to take my mind off my anxious thoughts just for a while.

I'm so glad that you address the mental health issue of makeup. Makeup like any other form of art has a really profound affect on ppl. It's a type of therapy that needs to be discussed further. So thank you for uplifting us with your positive presence. Love to you and James and Marcus.😘

Absolutely adore you!!! For the longest time I tried baking and didn’t understand why everyone did it or what I was doing wrong because I just didn’t get these amazing results. I really have tried so many of your tips and techniques. Thanks for being honest and genuine ❤️

Oh my. Robert is so soothing I fell asleep last n*ght to this video. I'm watching it again and ge just made my day. I truly do feel like some products are not made for me. The foundation/powder combination for me alone has been over a 10 year battle until I watched Robert's channel. What Robert said truly made my day and I love how much he is not mean and gives true constructive criticism. There is only 1 Robert Welsh and we truly stan a king! 👑🖤
