My major beef with these Christian influencer girlies and bros, they do anything to justify their own actions biblically but shame secular people for making the EXACT same life choices, such as owning businesses and working outside of the home. The hypocrisy is STRONG.

My new list 1) Get some servant girls 2) Do not eat locally grown food. Only get food from very far away, that has been brought to me on a boat. 3) Spend more time thinking about fields 4) Do not ever turn off lamps 5) Only wear purple linen clothes 6) Obtain a spindle, so I can grasp it 7) Get scarlet clothes for my family 8) Find a city with a gate. Make husband hang out there until he is honored. Seems like I've got my new years resolutions all ready to go.

@Clara-xk3uv you are very welcome. I think we should all just spend more time thinking about fields. Jesus said to consider lilies also. So maybe think about flowers sometimes?? Idk, my female brain might struggle thinking about 2 kinds of plants. Also, I live on an island and try very hard to eat as locally as I can, but wayyy too many foods have to come here via boat, so I think I may be doing okay om that front.

This all appears like a "pop" version Christianity and one up competition. When I listened to her podcast with her friends each one was trying to out do the other. "You can't watch scary movies? Well I can't watch a COMMERCIAL for a scary movie." "You're afraid of decorations? Well I can hear people SCREAMING in houses that are decorated for Halloween." I can't figure out if all Christians believe the things she says, or if this is her extreme version trying to one-up on everyone else in her life and online of how EXTREME she can be in her dedication. Is Christianity a competitive sport now? What kind of Christianity does she practice?

This exactly. The "I'm the best Christian(tm)" and the subtle, or not so subtle, competition over that is strong with these type of christian influencers. I don't think all Christians do it, but the ones that don't tend to not be on social media trying to show they're the Best Christian(tm) Edited for grammar

If she had an eating disorder, those weird body angles are probably her body checking. If she's body checking, she's not fully recovered. I wouldn't judge anyone else (because I've been there and it's so hard) but I will judge someone who claims they prayed and "faithed" their way out of one.

Another interesting thing about Proverbs 31 is that in the original Hebrew, the chapter is an acrostic poem, highly stylized, and intended to be an example for *all* Christians, not just women.

I fought my way back to Christianity after finding myself deeply unhappy with my life choices. It was very, VERY difficult leaving my old life behind, which I honestly didn’t think was “that bad” until I tried to leave. That’s when I became very scared at what I was trapped in. There weren’t any resources for my particular situation and no one in my life was very supportive. Fundamental Christianity was where I found some of what I was looking for, as far as pointing the way back to a place that was undeniably Christian. I rested in that place for a long time, until I had built enough layers between my new life and old that it was safe to explore the nuances of Christianity and to figure out where God wanted me. Those seeking God would do well to stick by you and to stay away from influencers like Brittany, who is absolutely unqualified to teach anything. Brittany has enormous messes to clean up and has a long, long history of not taking responsibility for her actions and running away from consequences. It scares and upsets me to think of earnest new believers looking to Brittany for anything. Thank you for the work you do. It matters.

I've watched your videos for a while and I've wondered why some of these people rub me the wrong way (aside from the scamming and lowkey mean girl behavior), but I just realized that they spend SO much time justifying their behavior when they're the ones critizing others for doing the same thing. Like "I immediately get on my phone to check work emails, and that's something I'm working against", but most people don't care. She's the one pressuring people to be "better", but only if it's how she sees it. Additionally, I take issue with anyone who has comments on how many hours someone has in a day. Yes. We do all have 24 hours, but some people work 12 - 14 hour days and still work other jobs/parent. It's such a privileged and icky thing to say.

I really enjoy your commentary, and your grounded perspective. It's very clear that you have been 'in this' for your whole life and your takes are very balanced. If we are to take Britany at her word that her conversion experience is what it is - that she was truly at a very precarious place with her life and mental health and that she had a vision of Jesus that literally saved her life - I think it can kind of give us some context for why her views are so extreme/contradictory. There is a part of be that *does* believe she is trying to live as she is talking - but of course she's taking things to extremes and I think that is partially a matter of her 'newness.' When we get into things - especially when we make that thing our new identity/career - we tend to go towards extremes and that line blurs between what we are actually feeling genuine about and what we think we have to do to fit in/be perceived in a certain way/what we think is right and reasonable. I think at the end of the day, she is doing what she has always done - turned herself into an influencer/'expert' at something she is very, very new at. That she has little to no experience in. So it all comes across really in-genuine because at the end of the day, it is. It's not really her lived experience. She just comes across as really naive and just trying to gain approval and followers, while also being pretty convicted but not really having the requisite understanding, mentorship, experience of expertise to actually be an expert. So she follows trends and does what's popular, because of course. It's part of what I think is still a grift to a degree, but is also part of what was wrong with her whole fitness career too - she just had no actual experience of knowledge of what she was talking about and thus, it was all a big mess... At the end of the day, I think it's a mix of being green, naive, partially grifting and wanting to be loved... So it's all weird.

Speaking as another fellow born-and-raised, still-practicing Christian-the whole "Proverbs 31 Woman" thing was definitely around, but it was usually limited to, like, married women's Bible studies and stuff. I associated it with older, Gen X moms long before it really took off in the Instagram Christian Girlie spheres-super fascinating (& kind of horrifying) to see the way it's been taken and twisted.

Win for week for me was also Thanksgiving with family. Also, your view on the Bible starting at about 16:00 is so on target. I’ve been doing a lot of studying about how to read and understand the Bible, and one of the core things I’ve been taught is to never read a Bible verse. When reading a Bible verse on its own in isolation, it can be confusing and can be misunderstood, misinterpreted, and used in all kinds of ways that have nothing to do with the original meaning. “Never read a Bible verse” is a reminder every Bible verse is written in a context, in a specific time period, and for a specific purpose. Every Bible verse fits within a larger story. The Bible is a library of sixty-six books written over a 1,500-year time period by more than forty authors from different cultures who wrote in three languages using all types of genre but tells a unified story that has a beginning and and end, with all types of plot twists and characters entering and leaving the story. I’m glad KZbin recommended your channel and I decided to check it out.

I am glad you had a good Thanksgiving! The motto of "never read a Bible verse" is a good one, it is incredibly important to look into the larger story! It is stunning to think about how many different people contributed to this book and so humbling when you really think about the work it takes to have even a slight grasp on chapters or books that can seem so simple when we read them today. i am glad KZbin recommended my channel to you as well and so happy to have you here!

I think it’s interesting that when ever she talks about “struggling with sin” it’s always sexual. She never really talks about struggling with anything else? It just leans hard into purity culture which causes the focus of Christian’s to always be thinking about and feeling shame about our sexuality. There is a host of “sins” you can be struggling with but she always leans into that.

Oh my!!! I have to admit I have been following christian KZbinrs and in the past couple of years I notice how self centered they have gotten and I just recently noticed that and I was one of those who used to love to listen to them and look up to them for encouragement and tips but honestly it just made me feel like I wasnt measuring up and felt worse, as a Christian that went through a lot of trauma it hasn't been easy to heal and I always wondered what was wrong with me and why things just don't work out the eay they do for others. I also got so obsessed with becoming a stay at home mom and even though that's still one of the things I wish I could do I don't think it will be possible for me and my family, I became very bitter with that and I also wondered why God wasn't blessing me and my family the same way. So with all this being said I can no longer stand these christian influencers bc a lot of times they wanna push something that's not realistic and simple as they make it sound

I’m so glad you mentioned the way she displays her body because it was my first thought every time the camera would randomly be focused on her waist and thighs. Honestly, as a woman who struggles with body image it is incredibly difficult for me to see. I think for those who struggle with eating disorders it could be a stumbling block (Christian reference) and something harmful she shouldn’t be doing. Also, side note, interesting that she gave a wrong reference for a very common verse. It’s Romans 12:2 not Romans 12:12 I get that people misspeak but probably should be caught in editing or something… but I’m probably being too critical

I agree with you that finding time for prayer/reading/fitness looks very different with kids, and carving out multiple 30 minute chunks of time during the day just isn’t realistic. I would take her more seriously if she had more practical advice, like, say a prayer when your brushing your teeth, move your body by dancing with your baby etc. She doesn’t acknowledge that everyone lives their life differently

I grew up in a “non denominational” evangelical charismatic church and as an AFAB person, the proverbs 31 woman was DRILLED into me from the time I was around 10 years old all the way to when I left (in my mid-20s). We were made to memorize those verses and the proverbs 31 woman was the most coveted version of a woman to be (placed even above Mary and other important women in the Bible). It always came across to me as a way to further encourage the women in our church to be married home makers and nothing else. It’s super interesting to see it continuing and to hear your perspective on it.

The problem I have with religious content creators I have is. They make it sound like everybody is married with friends that’s not how life is for everybody. There are some folks out there fighting battles with themselves being their own counselor their own best friend because God and themselves is all they have.

I was really into the proverbs 31 woman when I was an evangelical teenager. I did an episode of my podcast about it. The proverbs 31 is a bossbabe, lol. It was nice to have an idea of womanhood where she has a lot of agency. She even owns property! I think it’s not taught as commonly in the churches because she’s too empowered. They like the story of Ruth (who was obedient and faithful to her mother in law to the extent that she left her own life and family behind, to live in poverty and ultimately be purchased into a “redemption marriage.”) and Esther (who was obedient to her cousin, who used her to create political leverage. Her main traits are that she’s beautiful, and she ordered two full days of the Jews getting to massacre their enemies with no penalty.) and of course Mary, who stops being interesting when she’s no longer a pregnant virgin. I gravitated toward the proverbs 31 woman because it shows a version of womanhood that actually allowed for me to have a life and do shit

I think a huge reason your spirit is repulsed by “delayed obedience is still disobedience” is the context. Her whole video is “here’s the challenge I am giving you, stemming from my personal convictions” (which God brought to my attention over time). But you know, “delayed obedience is still disobedience”… Basically she is claiming to be a spiritual authority over her listeners, and if they heard her challenge, then they must respond to it with compliance-and immediately. It’s the same thing she pulled with her “warnings” about Halloween. It honestly sounds like cult programming.

I hear you. I also believe people can change but that does not mean they get the honor and privilege to then turn teacher immediately. Like sit your butt down, grow, and ground yourself. Obedience also matters in the unseen place. There are plenty of other things to do than be teaching.

I do not believe she's changed at all. She never actually apologized for her crimes, and she has never held herself accountable for them and actively avoids doing so at all costs. She committed actual crimes on a not insignificant scale and to this day refers to them as simple mistakes. Do you understand how badly you have to swindle people to be sued by the state of Texas for fraud? I don't think you do. Someone who has learned, changed and grown from their past misdeeds does not behave like this.

My win for the week is making great strides with a new depression treatment! Also, I’m sure views are down on the last video because we’ve entered the time of year where chaos rules. Gatherings, decorating, gift giving and in general trying to cram a lot of activity into our hectic lives probably pushed entertainment a bit to the side. I thought the video was a great take-down of the posting, and as always, I love how you bring forth knowledge to the subject, call for better behavior but also acknowledge when a good point was made. This shows more kindness than Brittany deserves, and a vast amount of maturity. Keep posting! 🙂

One thing I don't like about some 'self help' ideas is they say 'you can find 10 minutes' like 5 or 6 times.... well, now we're at an hour. Which is still doable depending on the person and the day, but way more of a commitment than the '10 minutes' that anyone can carve out of the day. And, as I was typing this, you addressed that. It's definitely a lot if you aren't already doing some of those things.

Am I the only one who hears “a praying woman is a powerful woman” and “pray for them without telling them and see what God does in one month” and thinks it sounds a lot like she would take credit for anything good that might happen to that person over that month? Because obviously good things wouldn’t happen without her powerful prayers 🙃 but that could just be my non-religious pessimism!

It's hilarious to me that BD has no idea how privileged she sounds ALL the time. Even little stuff like getting up early, staying up late, etc. Ok, but you cannot criticize someone's time management when they don't live the same cushy, selfish involved life you do. Kids, more than one job, health issues - she considers none of it.

As someone who was raised Catholic this kind of content from Christian influencers is so interesting bc of how different it is from my experience and I don’t think there are religious influencers who are Catholic tbh. I didn’t grow up with so many of these pressures for modesty or being submissive, etc.

When she started talking about delayed obedience, it is important to gain clarity. There is nothing wrong with that. Churches and platforms in Christianity can drill so much fear into that. Brittany is probably being taught all these things and just repeating them though.
