Excellent demonstration ! My girl is 4 years old and I let her grow fur over the winter for protection ... In the spring she is soooo hairy !! Nice work on describing the proper tool set to use...

What kind of cut would you call this- I like it and would like to be able to describe it to groomer.

Unfortunately in my experience groomers tend to absolutely butcher a Brittany's coat. I have stories! However, if you have someone willing to do a breed specific cut a good printable guide is on www.brittanygrooming.com/ which was done by Jessica Carlson of Alar Brittanys. The main body of the coat should not be clipped or trimmed. That needs to be emphasized, regardless of length.

Just took my Brittany in for first time grooming and was shocked that they just buzz clipped him all the way around. His coat is flat and short and doesn't look right 🫣

Hi Lisa, what type of clippers are you using? A specific brand? One or two speeds?
@lisatailby36376 жыл бұрын
I use an Andis AGC clipper as my primary clipper with a 7F blade. I have a set of Oster's I got on clearance as my backups. Either brand works fine as long as you can use removable blades. I would not recommend spending less than $100 on clippers or you'll find yourself buying clippers often as I did back in the day! Occasionally you may need replacement parts for your clippers, the plaster driver is the most common bit that snaps and it's good to have an extra on hand but they are inexpensive.

If I only have straight shears can I still blend it out enough with them? (Without the blending shears)
@lisatailby36376 жыл бұрын
Schmiv 0394 Without thinning shears do not attempt back combing to blend, as you'll end up with a very choppy cut.

Great, thanks. Here's another question, my Brittany has a very thick coat on the back of her neck. Is there a good way to thin it out or make it not look so chunky. I've heard you shouldn't shave that part but it makes her figure very unflattering. I'm a total beginner so sorry if I ask a stupid question. Your dog's coat lays very nicely and looks silky but mine's more curly and frizzy almost. Would a dog conditioner help, or is there any other ways to help it smooth down? I really appreciate it, thanks!

Schmiv 0394 Back combing does help thin it out with thinning shears like I show here. I have a boy with wavy thick fur on the back of his neck and I do that with him. You can also try cutting into the fur with thinners, meaning take them and go under the fur and cut little bits out. Thinning shears aren't meant to cut much so you really aren't meant to remove much fur.

poor dog!

Why? Oliver is a good sport and is used to being groomed. He's often my practice dog when teaching people because he's happy to sit on the table and be groomed.
