Today's video is all about the 10 things I WISH I HAD KNOWN when my toddler was a baby about healthy speech practices at home. All kids learn at their own pace BUT I believe these 10 tips can create the ultimate learning experience at home for speech development. If you decide to use these talking tips at home, please let me know how they work out for you. I'm still on the journey myself, but making these changes has already given us great progress!
I'll link some toys below that have been useful in our speech journey:
Farm Puzzle (great for animals and their sounds): amzn.to/3efV3n7
Toy Microwave (teaches OPEN/CLOSE): amzn.to/3SRB64W
Ice Cream Set (we use this one in speech therapy): amzn.to/3CqJiSC
Car Set (teaches DOWN, MORE CAR, VROOM VROOM): amzn.to/3VlmJHB
Reminder I'm just a person on the internet, and I try my absolute best to share useful and helpful information, but if you have deeper mommy gut concerns please seek out a professional opinion.
You got this! 👶🏼✨

I work with kiddos with communication delays and happen to be watching this video on my break. Whoever your speech therapist is did a great job of not only helping you but also explaining why these things work! Play is the BEST time to prompt language! It’s clear you’re very invested in learning yourself as well and that’s so beautiful to see 💕

I also work with children at all age. Is importante tô be tracking language development as everything else. I speak 3 languages and I was worried that my daughter that would hear two languages would have speech delay. She is now 3 1/2 and can speak plus 250 words. It’s a lot of work but it’s important to pay attention. - don’t give to her what she wants before you have her saying the word. - teach her sentences - require her to say words that she already knows - introduce new vocabulary everyday day but make sure use them in sentences over period of 4 weeks - let your child see your mouth and the object - speak… speak… speak… - screen time OFF. You are amazing and is doing a good job on my humble point of view. I’ve watched your videos and new the outcome I’m so happy you took action ;) Good job mamma :)

It’s so comforting knowing we aren’t the only family having communication struggles. We are getting evaluated in a few weeks and will probably be getting speech therapy because we still don’t have many words at 21 months. We use all done as a sign all the time as soon as he doesn’t want to do something he gives the all done sign

My 2nd could say hundreds of words before 18 months old and count to 20 and memorize books very quickly. My 3rd is turning two in a week and only says a few words. She's getting better but it's crazy how every child is different! I think one of the best things that you can do it read to your child A LOT! With my second, I had so much more time to read to her all day.

Responding to babble should totally be encouraged! From the time your baby starts babbling, if you respond with conversation, even with just "oh is that so?" "Wow! that's interesting!" It's teaching them the back and forth usage of language and it's encouraging them to "talk" even if it's not solid words yet 😊

- Spent 1 hour of trying to put my stubborn toddler to sleep - Barely did my nighttime routine - Got in bed - Oh look, Brittany has a new video - Let me just close my eyes for a second - Brittany: “if you got this far in the video, that means you are a loving parent that cares…” - Jumps out of sleep - “yes, yes, that’s me” I’ll have to rewatch this tomorrow, good night everyone 😅

Yes!! The tip on responding to babble made me feel like I’m doing something right without realizing it! My son is 21 months and for the past maybe 5-6 months he’s created his own entire language that sounds like how minions talk 😂😂 But there are several made up words that he uses to mean so many things and I know what they all mean just from hearing them in context so often lol. And I always reply back to his little babble sentences no matter what and really encourage him to communicate. It’s just so cute and sweet! Even when they don’t say a huge amount of “actual words” it doesn’t mean they don’t have soo much on their minds and so much they are trying to express. Also- I’ve noticed that toddlers understand pretty much everything you say to them! It’s amazing how you can ask them to help with something or get an object for example, and they almost always come back with the correct item. They are such smart little people and it’s amazing to watch them grow and develop in their own individual ways. ❤❤

My son is almost 22 months. We had our first speech appt last week. However, we recently learned he has 0% hearing in his right ear, and 100% in his left. Fingers crossed that we will see some progress!! We are working on repeating his babbling back to him to encourage him to begin a back-and-forth “conversation” Thanks for these tips Britt!!

My son is almost two and we speak 3 languages at home… we noticed a big change after we started prioritizing one language to communicate with our son. He does understand all 3 languages but mostly speaks English that was also something what made us to prioritize one language in every area of his life. But we did find that our families didn’t quite understand our decision to hold on those two other languages for now (we still use simple phrases and instructions but nothing extensive) In last few months he started adding a lot of words into his vocabulary- I do find this video very helpful! Especially because it’s very well explained. Thank you for making this video

Children are all so different, my eldest (now 9) didn't talk until past 2.5 years, was at nursery from 1, whereas my younger two (3, approaching 4 and just turned 2) have been very forward with speech since 1/1.5 years. I've always been around young children and babbling with them, talking through the day and what you are doing, basic sign language, have all been pretty normal parts of our house growing up. I love how you put all this together from a first time parents perspective so others can run with it too. I was once chatting to my babbling eldest at my friend's child's 1st birthday, her child's father said to me "it's amazing that you can understand what he is saying"...I had to tell him I didn't have a bloody clue, I was just chatting to him as though I did. It's what my mum has always done with babies so I just did it too.

First off let me say how amazing you look. You short hair is adorable, that shirt is so cute, and you are just glowing. Second, this video is so informative and well thought out. My daughter is only a few weeks younger than Arrow and I’ve been following you since we were pregnant at the same time! We struggled with speech for a while and my daughter was in speech therapy for a little bit too and it really does help so much! It also helps take some of the pressure off the parent having a professional help and give tips like this to work on outside of therapy. I love this video!

I'm not a parent just a longtime subscriber ☺️ but I found this information really useful! Being around my family and friend's children after lockdown, I realize how difficult that made things on some aspects of development. There's a lot of everyday things we are just now implementing back into our lives. This video made me more aware how a little communication can go a long way for our 2020s babies/kids since we had masks on there for awhile ❤️ I'm going to share this and hopefully use it around the kiddos more too

My baby was a horrible sleeper. I taught her the sign for "go to sleep" and she really enjoyed being able to express when she's tired! It made going to bed so much easier because she can tell me if she's tired, and I'm able to ask her in a way that she understands easily... also, the sign is so "friendly" that it made bedtime somehow less scary! 😄

I’ve actually incorporated some, like using the boglenese pouch as pasta sauce, after watching your stories. Other tips like this would be so helpful.

Thanks! That’s the vibe it was giving me. My daughter is 22 months and not using words yet. Her pediatrician referred us to a speech therapist at 15 months, we were in a waiting list for 6 months and then once we FINALLY got started, the therapist told us that they thought my daughter was “too young” to get anything out of speech therapy and that we should come back in several months. It’s been a very frustrating journey for us. I appreciate these tips and I’ll definitely work on implementing them in our daily lives. Kids grow at their own rate and while it can sometimes be hard not to compare, they are exactly who they are meant to be. I find it hard to know when to “support more” as in see a therapist or when to just let her grow at her own rate. Moming is my favorite thing on earth but man can it be tough!

Thank you for this video. I feel a lot of parents can get caught in the meeting milestones or comparing kids. These are all great tips. Some we are doing and the others we will start. I get so frustrated with people (family) who talk to my 1 yr old inn baby talk with made up worries for regular things we are teaching him. For example wawa = water or blabla = bottle I don't find this helpful and I feel it would confuse him as well as delay speech oof the proper words. I have had to talk to MIL a few times about this.

My daughter is 2 and only sort of says a few words, she prefers signing. She seems to meet every other milestone just fine, she just doesn't want to talk!

"it took her 2 days/weeks to get it". Mine needed 2 months for "more" and I still feel like "all done" isn't 100% fixed 4 months later... Milk is another one we are trying to get in. We started quite late though at about 1y4m. I wish I would have found this video a lot sooner! Thank you for all these great tips!

Something to be cautious about. If your child is speech delayed it's best to get an assessment by a Dr. My child was speech delayed and everyone said don't worry, it'll happen. He has autism, so being assesed is what is needed first.

I’m a first time mom, so what I experienced may not be because of what I did. But my child started saying words before his 1st birthday, and now at 22 month, he is saying full sentences and can communicate very well. I was surprised watching this video because I basically did most of the things she mentioned. I would also repeat back whatever he is trying to say to give him confidence. And use the word in a different sentence to make the connection. I would also pay attention to what he is being exposed to, so I can bring the word back later that day, and replete until he start to use them by himself. But who knows, maybe he was just the type to start talking early, and nothing to do with what I did- every kid’s different~

Thanks for these tips! What made you decide that your baby needed speech therapy? How did you find one? My pediatrician has been mentioning for a while now that my baby might need to be referred to a center. I thought it was a speech therapist but when I googled the place she mentioned, it turns out it's a center for intellectual disabilities. I'm freaking out!

I got to say, my daughter is a early talker and I feel that it probably has to do with the fact that she never liked pacifier. I found it hard to understand how other babies can practice talking as much as needed if they constantly have pacifiers in their mouth.
