Every time someone reacts to this phenomenal upgrade (and yes, Scott & Mitch are Superfruit & this was in honor of the Pulse Nightclub shooting as everyone in the song is part of the LGBTQ+ community) I'm always waiting for shoes to get thrown! When they hit that 5 part unison at the end- I still get teary & goosebumps & I've seen it hundreds of times! Loved the reaction!

This was a response to the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, which killed over 50 (mostly LGBT) patrons at a gay nightclub. As for Katy Perry's original, it wasn't a huge smash (it peaked at #11 here in the US), but it is a million-selling single.

In this reaction, at 0:22 we have Scott Hoying, of Pentatonix and SuperFruit. At 0:39 we have Mitch Grassi, also of both Pentatonix and SuperFruit. At 1:50 we have Brian Justin Crum. At 2:09 Mario Jose first appears. And Mary Lambert arrives at 3:08. Mitch and Scott are the two gay members of Pentatonix, and they started the SuperFruit channel as a place where they could talk about things that Pentatonix as a whole doesn't want to deal with on their official channel, as well as just hanging out, vlogging, doing live feeds with fans, putting together funny stuff. In fact, most of what you'll find on SuperFruit's channel is funny. But when the Pulse massacre happened, as two gay men SuperFruit was profoundly affected, so they put together this response. Katy Perry's original version of this song is very good, very powerful, but it doesn't have the emotion behind it that this rendition does, for obvious reasons. In my opinion, this is the better version. Their description reads: "As music artists we are given an incredible platform with which to reach the world. One of the most inspiring and rewarding aspects of our job is the ability to make a difference in people's lives. Superfruit = Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying. Brian, Mario and Mary are friends and wonderful singers in their own right. Superfruit have a wide variety of songs and fun stuff. I suggest you watch them sing 'Hip Hop Goes Broadway I and II'. Then try 'Antimedley' and 'Feeling Myself'. In part this is a tribute to the Pulse Nightclub massacre where a shooter kiled 49 peoples and wounded 53 more in an LGTBQ+ crowd. This truly makes me cry every single time I hear it. I live in Denver and just went through another nightclub Club Q shooting for Colorado Springs. When I lived down there for a year that was my personal hangout. I no longer go out since the Pulse shooting years ago.

not sure if this was from my suggestion but I am super glad you looked this up.. Scott first singer and mitch second singer are from super fruit and are apart of pentatonix. Brian justin Crum is the 3rd singer.. Mario is a friend of Scott and Mitch. he has done some openings to some shows of Pentatonix (PTX). this is a very powerful song and so glad you listened to it. :) cheers to you and I hope you look more into each of these singers... and more colabs with pentatonix people.

Seriously, this rendition is powerfully gorgeous, reminiscent of pain, yet exploding with the positivity of the persistence of the human spirit to rise above tragedy. Katy Perry was very generous as this song had only been out a month when Scott and Mitch asked her if they could do a compilation in honor of the victims of the Pulse Night Club shooting. I believe all monies made from it were donated to the victims of the shooting.

The first two singers ARE Superfruit. They are Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi, and Superfruit is a side project they do occasionally. Third singer is Brian Justin Crum, best known from America's Got Talent. Fourth is Mario Jose, mostly does music on KZbin. And of course, Mary. Mitch is a chameleon, he’s changed his look over and over again and often reactors say “is that Mitch”? Once they hear his voice, there is no doubt. Superfruit got together with 3 other LGBTQ+ friends and sang this song in response to the horrific massacre at the Pulse Night club, they did this for all those who are brave enough to live their life in the face of the bigotry and violence. Please go back and read the description box, they put it much better than I did.

They had a You Tube channel for awhile and did some work on their own. Brian came in next. He was a finalist on AGT. Mario was next, then of course Mary. This is my favorite version of this song.
