Posterize is also a common photoshop filter. It basically takes a full color photo, and then reduces the colors down to 4 or 5, depending on your settings. Because every color you print with is more expensive. Barack Obama's famous "Hope" illustration is a good example of taking a photo and posterizing it, albeit it was done manually.

This is not what kids mean when they say posterize. It's when you try and defend someone in basketball and they dunk on you. Photo gets taken of the dunk, made into a poster, and you're in it getting dunked on.

The kid was probably using “posterize” as slang. It’s when someone in basketball makes a crazy dunk over a defensive player. The type of dunk so good they’d put it on a poster. So the defensive player got posterized.
