@@realcoyotekings Very true. From all sorts of rock genres, too. Little Feat was Zeppelin's favorite band, for example, back in 1975. They played Feat albums all through their '75 tour, between gigs...Saw LIttle Feat a couple times before Lowell signed off, way too soon. Great shows. Remember them still.

Little Feat was very popular in the Baltimore / Washington area. They lived just north of Baltimore when Lowell wrote, "Feats Don't Fail Me Now." The band was close to breaking up, hence, the title. When they went on tour they always started in DC or Balto. and ended in the other city. The Waiting for Columbus tour started at the Warner Theater in DC and went around the world for about a year. The album was out before the tour ended. Of course, it ended in Baltimore and myself, along with many friends, were able to get tickets. Packed house and saw a live show that we had been listening to for months. UN - FREAKIN - BELIEVABLE ! It's hard to believe it was almost 50 years ago. I guess I'm getting old.

The story here is that he met a "pro". A year after she ran away he was in a bar and the bartender started humming the song she sang to the singer. Then " all the boys there at the bar began to sing along" meaning ...... they all "knew her". Dixie Chicken was a pet name she had for her clients. Yes the Commodore Hotel is historic in Memphis Great song choice, so glad you liked it.

Bonnie Raitt is a world class guitarist too. She is the original artist on the song I Can't Make You Love Me and her own special style, bluesy country pop all blended, a bit of a female version of Chris Stapleton. Emmylou is also a legend in music herself. They were there to have fun not because they weren't opening acts themselves.

I first heard Little Feat when I was in high school when they first came out due to my older brothe (mid 70's). I got to see them live in 1979 just a few months before Lowell George died so prematurely (the frontman and center of the band). What an experience! Little Feat carried on after his death very consitently due to the brilliance of the former bands musicians, specifically Richie Hayward, Roy Estrada, and Paul Barrere especially (check out "Let it Roll" and "Introducing the Mambo". Lowell would have been proud of his band mates.

I attended the Tribute concert for Lowell not long after this show at the Forum in LA. Bonnie, EmmyLou, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, members of the Flying Burrito Brothers and several others that I can’t remember right now performed. Lowell was a musician’s musician.

Gotta' have yo' propa' "stank face" on to listen to these guys, and for this particular evening, gals, all of whom are legends in their own right. What a band they were! There were slide players before and after Duane Allman who brought it to our attention in his own incredible way. Most people would probably say Duane was king, But Duane's influence was Jesse Ed Davis who was with Taj Mahal and where the Allman's got Statesboro blues, tho Blind Willie McTell actually wrote it. All that to say this, Lowell George, guitarist here, was also a great slide man and had a distinct style all his own. Most slide players were copying Duane, but Lowell was not a clone. He was the real deal also not to mention he sounded like himself, unlike most others! But heck, you could put any of the three on the player and I'd sit and listen! I'd love to hear all three of them jam, but alas, they have all left the building.

One thing you might have noticed was that EmmyLou's and Bonnie's mic didn't seem to be working. But it hardly mattered. Lead singer Lowell George has such a distinctive voice and although Little Feat carries on to this day, they were at their best with him out front. "Spanish Moon" is another gritty, funky favorite. They also put out one of the best live albums of all time, "Waiting for Columbus."

Little Feat were one of the best, most underrated groups of the 70's. Lowell George had been in Frank Zappa's band until Zappa eventually pretty much forced him to make his own band because he loved the draft for the song Willin' but knew it wouldn't fit for Zappa's group. Fat Man In The Bathtub is such a banger of a song from them. The aforementioned Willin' also. And Sailing Shoes.

Little Feat frontman Lowell George wrote this song with Martin Kibbee, who is credited as "Fred Martin." The pair were in a band together before Little Feat formed. Kibbee wrote the lyric, which was sparked when he drove past a sign in Los Angeles that said "Dixie Chicken" (apparently advertising a restaurant). He says that by the time he drove home, he had the lyric written in his head.

They played a great set and "Dixie Chicken" was one of the highlights. This was one of those bands that had no weak links. They were solid. "bad to the bone." Hi Britt! That song is a musical joke--BTW, this live version leaves out a verse--try the version on Waiting For Columbus for more amazement. Anyway, he tells the tail of being seduced and swindled by a temptress singing Dixie Chicken, who cleans him out and disappears. He tells his story to a bartender who claimes he "knew her well", starts singing Dixie Chicken, and all the boys in the bar join in. That's gonna leave a mark! Little Feat has it all--composition, performance, and writing, in an original swamp funk/R&B/Jazz/country jumbo. Thanks for having me along.
