Man I miss my home town, got married in 1980, marriage messed up because of him I left, if I'd known what I know now I would of stayed in Newark by myself.. this is were I was born and raised. 😢

-Newark born & raised. And it's slowly trying to come back from the 1967 riots. & It's getting there. But sad to say but Newark,NJ's best days are in the past. The downtown streets were crowded with shoppers, workers, & school kids of all races. All of the old movie theaters were always busy, the arcade on Market St., the old Mulberry St.,the record stores, the dept.stores of Woolworth's, McCrory's, Two Guys, Bambergers, etc, restaurants, all open. & All of the old now empty tall office buildings in downtown Newark were full up. Now all of the tall buildings except for the new Prudential bldg over by Starbucks are all empty fom the 2nd stories on up. Newark still had all of it's hospitals instead of the leftover 2 it only has now. Maybe I'm not being fair, but anyone who wasn't there years ago have nothing to be able to compare it to. All they have seen is the drab reality that downtown Newark is now. It's just ok now, but the good days down there are gone.

When I was a kid (50’s). ,Bamberger’s Department Store, was the brown building on corner of Commerce, Woolworth’s was on the corner of Market and Broad, that closed shop was Nehi Orange Juice. Whenever my mom would take me and my sister shopping. . .while we were waiting for the taxi, she would always say: “don’t ask for nothing. . don’t touch nothing. . .don’t act a fool”.🫣 Ahhh, the good old days.
