I lost my mom a few years ago and I lived in Newark as a little kid. We used to walk up Bloomfield Ave all the time and would stop at the hot dog truck. This video got me especially when the soft music played 😢.

It's funny how little things like hotdogs can mean more then then they are. I recently lost my Mom who was from West Detroit but when I eat a dog "Coney Island" style I think of her each time. Little things matter

Sorry to hear about your Mom, recently lost mine (about two months ago) and funny thing about the food is she was not a good cook at all to the point i even mentioned in her eulogy how bad she was, but none the less she cooked every night for us despite working fulltime Monday - Friday and then cleaned the house on the weekend and other errands without resting but so true that are certain foods that trigger my brain to make me think of her. so true that little things matter. Look forward to these post and hope to someday venture out from my hole in Boston to some of these places

She was my best friend. The times when we were younger, how one day follows the next, you never think your parents will be gone, but that time comes round so quickly...

I'm from Kearny been to JJ's many times and its a good spot for a quick bite. I haven't been there in many years, I try to avoid hot dogs just because. But if I'm going to get a hot dog it has to be Rutts Hutt. That relish and those "rippers" so good.

JJs was definitely a spot to hit in the middle of the night after a night of partying. Also try Dickie Dees Italian hotdogs. They are also located in Newark on Bloomfield Ave. They are across the way from Calandras bakery so make sure to stop and grab some delicious bread from them too before you leave the area. The absolute best French bread!

We went to check it our as per Your suggestion. We had 3 dogs and a drink for roughly 10 bucks!!!!! You can't beat that!!! The Young Man who took care of Us was very very Friendly. Service definitely matters!!

Man there is nothing like a fully loaded involved hotdog. There is this place called Seville Quarter in cozy Pensacola, FL. It's a night club with several different themed bars within its confines. At the end of the night as your exiting the building there was this hotdog vendor stationed right outside, you can't miss it. $3 for 2 your way. Always got mine fully loaded to end the night. The coveted "Seville Hotdog" was reason alone to leave the house for a night out, even if you weren't in the mood. It was something to look forward to. The humble hotdog still has a place in the culinary spectrum.

When I was staying in East Orange Nj.I think his name was Pete Hot Dog truck right on Central Ave.In Newark.I used to get 3 hot dog wit chili, cheese, and hot onions.

JJ's been around for years they always been one of the best around especially back in the '80s I was in Newark cop for 23 years and I lived in Forest hills so I always went there the only other one I would go to was Tony's they were them two had the best hot dogs with Tony sold his hot dog truck to someone else and they're not the same JJ's we used to leave studio One back in the day and he be out there we go there before we hit the clubs hang out with our cars yeah I'm in Cali but I'll be heading up back to Jersey in a couple months and I will go there and get some 👍❤️

Personally I put Rutts Hutt in there own class, possibly best hot dog on earth.... but deep fried is a different league, these guys are great as well but different style. Pro tip: Rutts has killer cups of homemade chili .....you just need to order a cup of chili with your dogs then I go mustard and chili rippers, forget about it lol

Went to college in Bloomfield in the late 80’s when Ed’s and JJ’s were right next to each other. We would go there in car loads and half loved Ed’s and half loved JJ’s. Dogs were the same but the difference was the toppings. JJ’s was my favorite. Loved the Hot Works. All though the first Wednesday of the month Ed’s had all you can eat for free. Just had to eat them there and 1 at a time. Free dogs always won out for me. Once ate 12 in 6 inches of snow in nothing but a pair of boxers and socks. Remember I was in college. Lol

I grew up on jj's from a treat on the way to see my probation officer to all i could afford on the way home from spending a year in jail. to weekends driven by coke fueld heavy metal clubs in newark (studio one) the one constant was jj's hot dogs.
